It was a hot morning. The sun was up and running. It sent beams of sunlight onto the planet. And the wind looked as if it was on vacation. The environment of Třekov was as livelier than always, the children played while the adults worked. The sun was scorching hot for it reflected lights on the face of people making them perspire. There were barely any tourists passing about the town as in a few days a festival would occur. Who knows, maybe the tourists didn't like the people of Třekov's culture, either way, it was a time for fun and celebration. Vivian was out preparing for the festival and Feran was guarding the town to keep outsiders out. While everyone was looking forward to the festival excitedly, there was one who worried about something else, Alex. Alex wondered if he was a burden to Xavier and his family since he considered himself to be adopted by them, maybe, he was getting in the way of fun. As Alex was worried about this, Xandyr crawled up to him. They were at Xavier's favorite tree. Xandyr smiled as he sat down on Alex's lap. This was enough to clear all Xandyr's worries away with just one innocent smile.
He smiled as he looked at Xandyr playing with one of Xavier's books," You're right Xandyr, maybe I should cheer up. After all, it hasn't even been a week since Misses Vivian took me in."
Alex wanted to be useful to Xavier and his family. But he was weak, he also had bad eyesight. He considered himself to be a nobody. He liked being alone because he wouldn't need to worry about those things anymore. Even if he was weak it wasn't his fault. He was strong enough to start alive on his own, and when he finally found a safe place, he started worrying about it– it wasn't right. Maybe he should have expected these possibilities before. Alex looked around and noticed no one but Xandyr and himself was around.
" I should maybe make breakfast, Xavier's probably practicing magic," Alex said as he got up and moved away from Xavier's study tree." How do you even cook or make something anyway? Well, no use questioning about it now."
Alex went to the hen house in search of eggs. It was a tiny wooden shack that Feran made to store chickens. The main purpose of this was for the eggs. As Alex bent down to take a few eggs, all the chickens looked at him. And when I say all, I mean every last one of them. He looked at them without turning away as he picked up the eggs. And as he accidentally dropped one of them, the chickens charged at him making weird noises. It was almost like a stampede instead caused by chickens. Alex ran out screaming for his life which had just started. Alex jumped over the fence and ran back to the house. And as he opened the door, he placed both his hands on his knees panting while beads of sweat ran down his face like tears.
" That was way scary than any monster I've ever seen."
Xandyr then started laughing at him, it was a baby's instinct whenever they saw something stupid.
" Hmph!" Alex walked away smelling u the entire room. If Xandyr knew common sense such as blocking his nose he'd do it, too bad that he was a baby.
Alex then started making breakfast with the scent of sweat flooding the kitchen. He then broke the eggs over the pot adding random things like salt, pepper, and weird things like dragonberry seeds. He mixed the eggs while adding the so-called ' Ingredients' over them. He poured every ounce of his being into the breakfast, even sweat and tears, literally sweat and tears. He thought that he would make an excellent breakfast but things didn't go as he thought they would.
Xavier looked over the dish with a sick face. He then pointed at it," It looks yummy." Xavier gulped expecting food poisoning.
As he took a bite of eggs, he literally died. Xavier fell down on the floor with foam coming out from his mouth. He looked like a kangaroo having a seizure. Sadly, Alex didn't know dragonberry seeds weren't edible. Alex then ran to a barrel of ' wine', took a cup, and made Xavier drink it.
" Wine!" Xavier shouted.
Xavier's face looked as if he had a fever and his body temperature raised. He then started coughing from the wine and the dragonberry seeds. Xavier then vomited on his clothes and the floor as his consciousness drift all while Alex watched,' Rest in peace.' He thought as he went in a praying position.
" You dumbass! Get me water!" Xavier snapped like a dog meanwhile Alex looked with shock.
" I thought you died?"
" I'm dying right now!" Xavier barked.
" Fine!"
Alex ran to the pipe and poured water into a glass cup. He then poured it into Xavier's mouth.
" Never cook again! You can clean or something but leave cooking up to me!" Xavier quarreled.
Alex scratched the back of his head embarrassed," Okay, but maybe Xandyr would like it?"
Xavier facepalmed," Are you trying to kill my brother or not?"
" Huh?"
" Never mind!" Xavier walked away as he drank gallons of water.
' Guess I'll get cleaning since I can't make anything." Alex sighed.
The house looked like a mess, it looked this way whenever Vivian wasn't home, and since Xavier was busy this would be Alex's job. He started cleaning with the windows and mirrors. He half cleaned the whole thing and it was still dusty.
After cleaning the windows, mirrors, and glasses, he started washing the dishes. As he washed the dishes he broke most of them. One could hear the noise of the glasses breaking. And when he was finished he sneaked out the broken glass pieces in the bin all while Xavier had no idea because he was out strolling the town. He swept the floor but didn't care to sweep the corners, still making the place look dusty. And as he was done, Alex then wiped the floor lazily while trying to make it look shiny but he placed no effort so it didn't look as he wanted. And as he was done doing this, he started watering the plants. It was quite obvious but he was too dumb to notice that he was drowning the plans in water. He gave them maybe ten times the amount Xavier and Vivian did. Even an infant would know that plants can't handle all that water. Of course, Alex wasn't dumb but he lacked in cleaning or anything related to chores, he had never done those things before until today.
But wouldn't watching Xavier and Vivian make him get a better understanding? The answer was yes, he was didn't care about it, in fact, he didn't like cleaning as he was a dirty person. Maybe that was the reason why people looked at him as if he was a pig. He was always treated as if he was inferior to everyone else. Well he was, he didn't have anything, he was homeless, poor, never got taught common knowledge, and lived on his own. At least he was different from the pampered nobles. Only now had he realized how lacking he was. His goal was to become rich and useful to Xavier and his family. He even liked magic yet he hadn't awakened yet, just like any other he had no idea how easy awakening was. Having not the ability to use magic, he took notes of how others used theirs. That's what drew him to Xavier, in all the times he had researched persons, he had never seen one who could see magic not use it on an enemy who was around their strength levels. He later came to know that Xavier did not want to not use it but he couldn't so he had no choice.
As he was finished cleaning, he looked over at the house with sparkles in his eyes." I did a good job."
But in reality, the house looked no different than before, he even destroyed things in the progress for barely any change. This was the pinnacle of the saying all for nothing. Even though it was worthless, Alex was far proud of it. He even blushed while thinking,' To think I could pull this off.' No one would boast about that, even a child could do things way better than he could.
As Xavier walked up the hill to the house looking stressed, he opened the door and placed his hand over his face once again." Really? Mom's gonna be pissed now that you broke almost all the dishes. Please don't do anything, just leave everything up to mom and myself." It caused Xavier even more stress as one could see it in his face.
No matter what Alexander did to help, he always messed up things even more. Alexander sighed,' Why am I the only useless one here?'
