Chapter 11 - Studying Magic On A Rainy Day

It was a cold day for it rained night and day. The clouds disguised themselves away and skies cried rain. The sky was dark there was nearly any bit of sunlight for it was a stormy day. This very day limited many people from working while others worked inside. No one dared not to go outside because they would be poured in rain becoming sick. Tourists always think sickness in Třekov would be the plague but there was no one with the plague in this town. A boy stood at his small window focused on a book. He was reading whilst looking through the window.

" I can't practice spells in the rain, can I?" Xavier said with a bored expression.

Xavier had nothing to do so he studied magic. It was a normal thing to do but this time was different. The last time he studied spells but this time he searched through the heavy, dusty, black, and old ' Study Book Of Magic'. Rather than teaching spells, the book showed the limitations of magic. Using magic frequently many times a day can cause pain, nausea, and exhaustion. Sometimes you couldn't even move in a battle rendering you defenseless. Then using too much inner power from the mana core. If your mana has been exhausted you can not use a spell or any type of magic until you rest. Xavier already knew magic is inherited so there was no need for him to read that. While drawing power from a spell, people feel pain in the abdomen, nausea, dizziness, or sometimes nothing at all.

Then there were incantations, using spells required incantations while most elemental abilities didn't. Subsets barely needed any incantations unless it was a strong spell. Mostly healing required incantations but Vivian practiced it for years so she knew how to use healing without incantations. Things like wands, magic stones, staffs, and so forth limited the need for incantations in spells. Simple attacks like an ice glacier and so on didn't need an incantation.

Another thing was, that using too much magic could even damage your life span which was dangerous. If too much power is channeled it could cause, injuries, madness, strokes, or even death. The greater the spell the greater the risk of messing up spell. Messing up a spell or even the incantation could drain all your mana or probably release the spell yourself. Overuse of draining mana from your mana core could damage your mana gate making you not be able to use magic in your life again. Most spells required to touch the enemy and not touching the enemy would reverse the spell effects on yourself.

To make a spell with a great range would require a lot of mana and draining to do so. Most attack spells would only last a few minutes or seconds. Using spells that last a long time will drain out all your mana unless you defeat your opponent fast. Wide area effect spells, for example, poisonous gas were extremely to pull off. Lastly, some spells required certain materials like a mana stone, wand, staff, and artifacts.

" Ah, that was too much reading!" Xavier held his forehead in pain for he had read through the whole book in two hours. Xavier then pushed open the front door, it made him realize that it had a storm outside." Like that'd stop me from having a break."

Xavier walked outside and raised his head to look at the sky. Droplets of rain downpoured on his face messing up his hair but it didn't stop him. He then lifted his hood and continued walking downtown. There was barely anyone there, the busy roads were empty and people locked themselves up in their houses even closing their curtains. It was that much of a cold day. The road which was filled with horses, carriages, crates, and people was empty. Most of the stalls on the sides of the road were gone. A rainy day in Třekov was almost like all the citizens went to war.

The only places open were the bars where drunken knights roamed. Xavier dare not go into a bar. They were so drunk that they would give him a drink and not ask his age. The knights were barely on patrol they just drunken themselves with alcohol on rainy days. For them, days like this were holidays.

" Those idiots, if someone attacked now who would defend here now that all the holy knights weren't in town. What, are you going to drunken the attackers with alcohol and pat them on the shoulder?" Xavier scowled.

" Go away, kid!" They all ridiculed Xavier forgetting whose son he was.

Xavier then walked away from the aroma of the small tiny bar with curtains for doors. It was truly disgusting for it smelled like alcohol and sweat. Xavier scorned the bar with displeasure.

Xavier then made a trip back home for the town of Třekov wasn't as friendly and lively as it was yesterday.

As Xavier approached his favorite study tree, he saw a boy lying down reading by the tree. The boy had long blonde hair that covered his right eye. His lips were as pink as strawberries and he wore fancy clothing.

" Who the hell are you?" Xavier looked at the boy with discomfort."

" Oh? Did I intrude your spot then that home over there must be yours? Would you mind if I just stay you can sit here if you want, just today, can you spare me?" The boy talked properly but weirdly to Xavier.

Xavier sat by the boy.

" Have you ever been fascinated by magic?" The boy turned to Xavier.

" It becomes less fascinating every time I use it," Xavier replied.

" Oh, you can use magic? How old are you then?"

" Just six years old."

" Same age, huh? I have yet to awaken. I want to be a holy knight just like my father." The boy answered.

Xavier turned to the boy with a shocked face," We have something in common. Believe it or not, my dad is also a holy knight. He's the strongest one in Třekov right now."

" Lord Feran isn't he? That would make my dad the second strongest. I'm Owyne, what's your name?"

" Xavier."

" Well then, till next we meet Xavier." Owyne walked into the forest and disappeared.

" Must be brave entering a forest of monsters."
