The light was peeping into the room from the half open window. The sun was up and bright. Lucian wasn't in the room. He cleaned up the room before he left. Outside, I could hear the children make a ruckus over something, but I know it won't be anything important.
I got out of my bed and sat silently for about fifteen minutes, thinking about what I saw.
'Why am I getting these crazy dreams?' I asked myself. I doubted I'll be able to sleep without worrying about what kind of predicament I'm going to fall into.
I got all those thoughts out of my mind and got ready. I went to the dining table and got to know that everyone had have their breakfast and I was the only one left.
"We tried to wake you up, but you were in very deep sleep." Lucian said, reading the look on my face.
He was sitting and reading some magazine that had a sports car as it's cover. He looked different today. Until yesterday, I couldn't stand him at all and now he didn't seem so bad.
My face might have gave me away, 'cause looking at me Lucian said, "If you have something to ask then ask. But I can't guarantee that I'll answer you."
"Did you do something to me?"
"Do what?"
"I mean...until yesterday, it was suffocating for me to even stand in your presence, but ever since yesterday night, when you said you were checking whether I was a threat or not, ever since then I feel normal around you." I said.
He closed his magazine and smiled at me. "It's just an aura that I can radiate around me." He said.
"Nothing happens to humans, but there are peop...I mean... beings that can't stand still around this aura. It aggravates them and they transform."
"What do you mean by beings?" I asked.
"Monsters"
I was right. He knew about them. Looking at him, I wondered if he could actually help us.
"Can you tell me what's happening? Why are you here and how exactly is it possible that you altered the memories of these people? Because it's better to know everything at once than to get shocks every single day." I said, but I was actually pleading him.
He looked calmly at me and shook his head.
"I'm here to help you both. I can't tell you anything yet. There are protocols to be followed. I can't just go against the law." he said.
"what law?"
He gave a slight chuckle, "You'll know everything quite soon. Don't get confused right now. Arya will tell you eventually. I just don't know why she's acting like this."
"You're saying she knows about all this?"
"Yes, of course. She's like me, you see." He said and went back to reading his magazine.
Why does he think that? I wondered. I knew Arya wasn't lying and that she truly doesn't know what is happening. Why does he think that she's like him?
"Where is Arya?" I asked.
"She left for school early. She said she had some important work there." Lucian answered without looking up at me, his face buried inside the magazine.
What was I supposed to do now? I don't have anything to do. As I was contemplating about what to do, Grandma came in and saw Lucian and me being completely free.
"Come, help this old lady out! You are young and yet are lying around like old hags. In your age, I used to work day and night." she ordered and Lucian got up at an instant, throwing his magazine like it's some piece of trash. I was ready too. After all, who had the guts to oppose her? I, for one, didn't.
...
I searched the entire school before I came to know that Mr Mark is absent today as well. It was strange. He never took a leave. Not even a half-day leave. He was a workaholic and seeing him absent for three days straight doesn't seem right. 'Is he okay?' I wondered.
I really wanted to talk to him about Mayur and Lucian. I was sure he could give me some meaningful advice. But now I was starting to get worried.
I had bunked all my classes today and had asked Chester to cover for me. The school was about to get over. I headed back to the class and was collecting my books and things. The door suddenly opened with a loud thud and a bunch of men walked in. They all looked like thugs.
'How did they enter the school?' I thought.
Just then the eighth man, the last man entered the room, grabbing another man by the collar and holding a gun over his head.
"That..." I gasped. The man was holding our Principal. The entire class started panicking. Students started running out the room, but no one was allowed to leave.
"Enough!" The man with the gun shouted and all the students froze in their places.
"Who is Arya?"
