Anzu would have gone with her friends when the edict was first given; she could have gone with Murasaki and the twins; she could have also taken Nobuharu's advice and just wandered in the far direction away from the target of the oncoming threat. But she couldn't, because she felt a lot more at peace where she was—at home.
She had made up her mind to stay here for better or worse, as she found it honorable to die in the residence of her family, as this was all she had left of them.
She took a deep breath and exhaled heavily as she waited for the time of her demise, unsure of how soon it would come but rest assured of its inevitability.
And, come to think of it, she was an old lady who did not want to run from death anymore. She was not old enough to be helpless, but she was old enough to let go and stop struggling. So she saw no need to run away from death.
