Jake scouted the positions to see where the group of goblins were rushing towards. Rather than three, the goblins were now moving in groups of seven. It was a vast increment. The previous limit and Jake feared that suppressing them like earlier wouldn't be as effective. This was an excellent opportunity to train his skills. As he continued to use the skill more and more, he would eventually manage to raise the stat related to it.
The seven goblins moved around and dispersed in the area to find food. These goblins were heavily armed, and hence suppressing them with a confrontation was a bad idea. If Jake didn't execute the plan properly, the goblins would be able to alert their village members about his presence which would ultimately lead to him being forced into a gruesome battle. He wanted to fight against a huge group, but adequate preparation was required.
