Chapter 4 - The Desire in His Eyes

"Mom, who was that handsome guy you met this morning?" Aurora asked.

Madeline had just served the last dish on the table when she saw Aurora biting her fork and looking at her expectantly.

She removed her apron and raised her eyebrows slightly. "You didn't check his identity? You didn't compare your DNA either?" she questioned.

Based on her understanding of Aurora, this mischievous little fellow, she would have definitely dug up all of Augustus' background information already.

Unexpectedly, Aurora wrinkled her nose cheerlessly. "I tried, but I didn't find anything! Mr. Handsome's information is completely confidential. I couldn't find anything at all!" She sighed.

"That's normal," Madeline replied as she picked up a piece of grilled pork and put it into her daughter's bowl.

"If you want him to be your father, I have to be his wife first. However, with his status, there are hundreds of women who want to marry him. Your mother still has a 'burden' like you. The chances of me marrying into a rich family like his are practically null," she said.

"So, you'd better hurry up and eat your meat and stop imagining things." She finished speaking.

Aurora took a bite of the fragrant pork and sighed softly. "All the children in my kindergarten have fathers, only I don't. Sigh, I'm so sad."

Words from such an exquisite and cute little angel were simply lethal.

However, Madeline knew her daughter's personality very well. She immediately rolled her eyes. "Didn't you say that the kindergarten's teachings are too stupid and you don't want to go? How can you get to know the other children?" she asked.

Aurora tried to act pitiful but failed. She started to make a fuss. "I don't care. Anyway, I want Mr. Handsome to be my Daddy!" she said.

"I think what you want is a spanking," Madeline replied.

The doorbell suddenly rang, interrupting the mother and daughter pair's bickering.

Madeline didn't even raise her head and waved her cutlery. "Aurora, go and open the door."

Aurora jumped off the chair.

As soon as she opened the door, a small figure darted in like a rocket. Before the mother and daughter pair could react, he had dived into Madeline's arms.

Aurora maintained her posture of opening the door. She gaped in shock. "Wh… what was that thing that just passed by?"

"I'm not a thing," the little person in Madeline's arms replied angrily.

Madeline got a headache when she saw the little fellow's face clearly. "Hugo Astor? Why are you here?" she asked.

Hugo hugged Madeline's neck tightly and refused to let go. He complained to her with an aggrieved expression. "Mommy, I came to find you. Don't leave me behind again."

Madeline: "…"

What was wrong with the little heir of the Astor Family? Why was he insisting on calling her "Mommy"?

"How did you find this place… Wait, actually, answer this first; does your father know that you're here?"

Hugo blinked his eyes innocently and pursed his lips without saying anything.

Madeline had a bad premonition. She immediately stood up with him in her arms and said, "This won't do, I'll send you home."

"Mom, don't chase him away. Look at how pitiful he looks," Aurora said.

Aurora ran over and gave Hugo a meaningful look. Her big black sparkling eyes darted around, and it was obvious that she was scheming something.

Hugo's eyes lit up, and he immediately nodded like a chicken pecking at grain. "Yes, yes, I'm so pitiful. I'm both thirsty and hungry, and I don't have a mother yet," he said.

As if responding to his words, his stomach rumbled.

Madeline saw the desire and anxiety in Hugo's eyes, and her heart softened. In the end, she put a hand on her forehead helplessly. "Okay, you should eat first." She conceded.

"Yay!" The two children cheered at the same time.

Augustus stood by the door with a cold expression on his face. The bodyguards behind him stood with their hands behind their backs, ready to charge in immediately at his command.

The door was not shut tightly, and the sound of the two children laughing and playing could be heard.

Augustus could easily tell that one of the voices belonged to his son.

He even heard his son acting pitiful and cute to stay here.

Mixed feelings emerged in his heart.

Hugo's personality was very similar to his, both indifferent and calm. Usually, he didn't act like a child, but when he was angry, he was irritable and prone to self-sabotage.

He had almost never seen Hugo smile, let alone be so happy and playful like this.

His current actions were more like a normal child.

"Mr. Astor, should we take action and bring the Young Sir out now?" the bodyguard asked in a low voice.

Augustus frowned slightly and in the end waved his hand. "No need. Go back," he said.

As he turned around, Augustus glanced profoundly at the door behind him.

He was very curious about what kind of magical appeal this woman had to make his son like her so much.

Madeline originally wanted to keep the little heir only for a meal, but who knew that in order to stay here, this child kept eating and eating until he was bloated!

Seeing the little heir rolling on the sofa in pain, Madeline's cold heart softened once again.

She helped him up and massaged his body.

"Wow, it doesn't hurt anymore! Mommy, you're so amazing!" He praised her.

The little heir looked at her with sparkling eyes which were overflowing with admiration.

Madeline was slightly speechless.

No matter what, this innocent looking boy didn't look like the son of Courtney, that vicious woman!

A stabbing pain arose in Madeline's heart at the thought of Courtney.

That woman was a vicious murderer!

If it wasn't for the fact that she was lucky, both her daughter and her would have lost their lives in that sea of fire.

Now that she is back, she must make Courtney wish she was dead!

Thinking of the past, Madeline's heart turned cold again. She looked at Hugo with slight annoyance and said coldly, "Aurora, I'll leave him to you. I'll send him away tomorrow morning."

Hugo's big eyes immediately welled up with tears when he heard this, but Madeline ignored his pitiful gaze and turned to enter the study.

Seeing that she had left, Hugo held back his tears.

"Wow, you really know how to act." Applauded Aurora, who had witnessed the entire process.

If she had this skill of controlling her tears, she wouldn't have been spanked by her mother so many times.

Hugo sighed. "What's the use of good acting? Mommy still doesn't want me."

Aurora's eyes widened. "That's my mother! Where's your own mother?" She immediately retorted.

A hint of coldness flashed across Hugo's face. He answered sullenly, "I don't have a mother!"

"How pitiful." Aurora sighed. Her eyes darted around cunningly and she said, "How about this, we'll go look for your father tomorrow and let him marry my mother. That way, my mother will also be your mother!"

Hugo's eyes lit up. "That makes sense," he said.

"Then it's settled!" she said.

Aurora giggled.

This little heir was so gullible!

Early the next morning.

The two children snuck out of the house while Madeline was still sleeping and took a taxi to Astor Corporation.

When they arrived at the front desk, Hugo turned to the receptionist and said adorably with a straight face, "Hello, my name is Hugo Astor. I'm looking for my father, Augustus Astor."

The receptionist lady's heart melted when she saw the two children, who were both good-looking and cute.

"Wait a minute, I'll contact the CEO's office," she said.

The receptionist at the front desk used a gentle voice, but after making the call, she was muttering to herself internally.

She had only heard that the CEO had a son, but she had never heard of him having a daughter.

"Who did you say came to find me? My son and daughter?" he asked.

Augustus suspected that he had misheard his secretary. "Where did I get a daughter from?" he said to himself doubtfully.
