Matthew sat in the car, filled with worry for Shannon. She had gone home alone, and she had even angered Janice. Would she encounter any danger?
"Do you hear me? You shouldn't return to that lousy company of yours anymore. Come back and take over the family business. And don't contact Shannon anymore! Our family business had many projects with the Wenley headquarters. You can't jeopardize that!" Matthew's father laid out the considerations clearly.
He had to split Matthew and Shannon up for the sake of the family business. He was afraid that Max would get angry and act against them, cutting off their livelihood.
Matthew was extremely depressed. He didn't expect his usually open-minded parents to have such a strong reaction to this matter.
Shannon returned home alone, turned on the lights in the house, and walked towards the living room.
Out of habit, she sat on the carpet and rested her hands on the coffee table, her eyes filled with sadness.
