Standing at the door, pressing the doorbell, Steve Harris was so nervous. He was terrified that Mallia Mamet wasn't home, which would mean he might not even get a chance to see her.
After waiting for a few minutes, Steve's anxiety had gotten to the point where he could barely breathe. Could it be that Mallia had suffered some blow and had run off to a place where no one could find her?
The more he thought, the more worried he became, so Steve decided to call Mallia directly.
Mallia saw that Steve was calling her, so she knew that it was Steve at the door.
With her eyes swollen from crying, Mallia didn't know what to do. She didn't want to see Steve at all. He had been controlling her life, letting her believe she could be willful, but then he had slapped her in the face. Laura King had struck her face hard.
So, at that moment, Mallia really didn't want to see Steve.
Mallia shut off her phone immediately. She thought by doing so, Steve should understand her intentions.
