David Thompson finished his meeting and, looking at the six missed calls from Aria Grant on his phone, knew he was dead meat.
"Boss, where are you off to in such a hurry?"
David was too anxious, so he bumped into an employee as he rushed out of the elevator.
"It's nothing."
David didn't have the energy to explain; all he could think about was what to do. When had he ever failed to answer Aria Grant's calls before? And six of them! She must be furious!
Walking down the street, David moved almost at a running pace and, of course, tried calling Aria back, but no one answered. Unease gripped him as he wondered if Aria had blocked his number.
Every red light he waited for nearly drove David to despair, thinking that only by getting to Aria quickly could he clear things up!
Pounding the steering wheel uncontrollably, David thought if only he had left the meeting immediately like he used to, no matter how important it was, just to answer Aria's call, would everything have been fine?
