Just then, crisp footsteps echoed from the staircase. Matt was descending the stairs while announcing to the two people on the sofa, "Aria and I have chosen a room on the second floor."
Well, even ladies-first wouldn't secure a spot now because Mallia already knew there were only two rooms on the second floor. It meant she was left with the first floor as her only option. Resigned, Mallia felt utterly dejected, even more so than when she had heard Matt calling her "Aria."
Moreover, Matt didn't really consult with them—his words were more of an announcement.
In a hurry, Matt descended, picked up Aria's suitcase, and went upstairs.
Fearing his emotions would get the best of him, Scott decided to tidy up his own things. Since Mallia didn't make a choice, he would. Anything was better than watching Mallia sulk.
Matt reached Aria's room, suitcase in hand, and quietly pulled it open.
"Is there anything else you need me to help with?"
