Chapter 7 - Reading talents.

Just like that two weeks had passed, with Callum and Oliver getting beat up by orcs and beating them down even more, pushing themselves to the limit.

Oliver had just awakened his system and today is the day the academy is going to test the students talents, in both cultivation and in battle prowess.

"Hey Callum, todays finally the day when we get assigned our classes, aren't you excited?" Oliver sat up grinning, he was determined to get into the T1 class, he was able to single handedly take one 3 level 2 orcs now, he should finally be on the level of an average noble.

Granted, that was only with the tricks from the slums, otherwise he was still leaps and bounds behind most other top students.

"Ahhh who cares with the refresher from Lucy making it to the top 5 will be a breeze," Callum yawned, stretching his arms out. He'd been through far too many tests in life to be excited over a pitiful school placement.

Oliver just looked over at him dejected, "Get ya damn ass up man, it's time to kill some more of those fugly pigs."

The two of them walked over to the academy sleepily, they headed to the main hall, the first part of the placement test began with measuring their talents on the crystal ball, of course most nobles already knew theirs but it was different for peasants.

This moment could make or break their dream, granted you could get items to increase your talent but they were extremely expensive and rare. Even some of the lower noble family's couldn't get them, and to increase it to levels higher than silver was out of price range for anyone below the top nobles.

"Alright everyone, as you know, the MK system academy only accepts the best of the best among the students, whilst all of you were able to impress the headmaster upon entry it's different now. From this point onwards we will focus on combat abilities, therefore, if you do not get higher than a wood talent level in either body or magic cultivation, you will be kicked out of the school." The teacher looked sternly at the crowd, it may not seem fair but a silver level talent could cultivate at a rate 15 times higher than a wooden talent.

They would simply leave them in the dust in the later years, and the school didn't have the resources to upgrade everyone's talent. Fortunately, only 20 percent of the population have a wooden talent in both magic and body cultivation.

Even Iron rank talents were 5 times faster in cultivation than wood. The world is unfair, and it always will be. It favors the strong and the rich, you can do everything right and still fail if you don't have the talent.

Oliver gulped, praying, that he could get a talent greater than wood, if he got silver he'd even be instantly put into the T1 class. Well he was until he remembered the god's of this world were cunts anyways.

"I will call your names one at a time, place your hand on the orb, it will tell you your body and magic talents alongside any elemental affinities you may have. Good luck."

"Elizabeth Milland."

The girl approached the stage calmly, she had the air of a noble which explains why she didn't seem nervous. They'd probably already tested her talents at home, the same could not be same for the peasants.

"Mhm, nice talent, silver body and iron magic with an affinity to water and air magic."

The girl smiled before turning around with her shoulders high, looking at the peasants nervousness she let out a chuckle. Oliver's face darkened, they may be richer but they were no different as people she didn't need to act like a spoilt brat.

"Cecil Colborne."

The girl seemed timid, her outfit and family name portrayed one of a noble household and yet she didn't have the confidence to bare the daggers stared into her. She nodded at a group of students seated near the stage, Oliver felt she could be trusted, perhaps she could be used in Callums and his group if she made to the T1 class?

"Iron rank body with a gold rank magic talent. Amazing, gold talent is a one in a hundred thousand talent, your affinities are with light and fire magic. A healer and a damage dealer, you can go a long way girl."

Olivers eyebrows raised, Callum seemed the type to be a tank, with him as a damage dealer and Cecil as a priest they would just need a long range damage dealer to complete their party. 'Whether she'll be good for the team or if she'll even join is a future problem,' he wondered, deep in thought.

"Callum Galloster."

Even the nobles looked up when they heard this name, Oliver had no clue what was going on but the Galloster was one of the top 5 noble houses within the country's. They boasted some of humanities brightest prodigies, but they harbored deep secrets within their family.

Hundreds of other names were called up, with only 5 students being kicked out due to dual wood talents. 2 of them even burst out crying falling to the floor on the stage, all the students could do was look on at them in pity and hope they wouldn't be the same.

"Oliver Godmond."

Oliver gulped, 'Shit, I can understand why Cecil was so timid early there's thousands of people in here staring.' Students weren't the only ones allowed in to watch the rankings, the top guilds and families of the students were also allowed in, although they couldn't interact with the rankings.

He edged closer to the orb, pushing out his hand to the top of the orb he took a deep breath and pressed down.

"Wood rank body cultivation talent," the teacher looked up at him in disgust, "pla-, boy place your hand back on the orb, I think there's been a misreading."

Oliver just looked up in dismay, placing his hand back on the orb.

The teacher just looked at the results in shock, this was the first time he'd seen a peasant with anything over a silver rank, never mind this result?!

The teacher just looked at the boy incredulously, "It's your lucky day kid, platinum ranked magic talent, you have an affinity with thunder magic and darkness. You better watch out, while your magic is going to increase incredulously your body won't be able to keep up, if you can try and-"

The headmaster jumped onto the stage from the top ring causing wooden splinters to rain over the first few rows, "Ha this is great," he grinned looking at Oliver, patting him on the shoulder, "Boy if you manage to beat level 8 on the VR sim, I'll give you the resources to directly increase your body talent to silver."

The entire crowd was drop dead silent, you could hear a pin drop in that theatre, the guilds were brimming with excitement, the nobles and peasants alike glared at him with envy in their eyes.

"THATS MY MAN," Callum screamed pounding on his chest looking down at the stage, Cecil went bright red from embarrassment.. what was going through her head, we shall never know.

The headmaster just chuckled looking at him, 'This kid, his talent is insane, with the buff from the intelligence stat, the gaps only going to continue growing, maybe just maybe he'll be able to save us.'

"Yes sir, I won't let you down," Oliver beamed at the headmaster, maybe his dream of revenge was actually feasible.

"Alright students and guests, we will now be heading over to the VR room, all students will fight concurrently and we shall display the top 50 on the screens, granted the top 50 doesn't mean who can kill the toughest monsters, it's who can kill the toughest monsters compared to their skill level."

The students were cheering, the nobles could use this to show off their power and the others could use this as a chance to show what they were made of to guilds, if they managed to get sponsored it was a quick and easy way to fame and fortune.

Oliver joined Callum and the other students filing out of the hall, all he could think about was getting stronger, and to do that he had to get the best possible results in todays exam. What he didn't know on the other hand, is that only 4 people have ever beat level 8 on this exam...
