Chapter 19 - Part 18

RHEIN'S POINT OF VIEW

"It seems you still have a hard time believing what you just found out. Get some rest to prepare yourself for tomorrow. You will find out more." And Grandfather Lembo left me alone.

I layed down onto the white bed after taking off my shoes. I pulled out my phone from my hoodie pocket and looked on it to see who was calling. As expected, Sister Rona now targetted my phone with calls and messages. She kept on asking what time I would be home. After a while, she asked where I was because I was not at Xyrille's or Jean's house.

[SISTER RONA'S MESSAGES:

Where are you? Hey! Reply now!

You are worrying me again you little monster!

This is not a good joke, Rhein! Answer!

I would not let you in if you do not answer yet.

Rhein, I know you dream of being a clown but, this is not a good joke! Answer! Hey!]

I have also received calls and messages from Jean and Xyrille.

[XYRILLE'S MESSAGES:

You are amazing, Rhein! You made an excuse with us having no idea about.

You are dead to us if you would not go home early.

You worry us. Call your sister. She might have a heart attack.]

[JEAN'S MESSAGES:

You should be resting, right? What did you eat and were you able to wander?

Go home. Your sister was already crying when she called here.

Hey. Your sister will go crazy. Be kind to her.

If we do not see you at school tomorrow, we will be upset truly. It is your birthday. Do not waste our effort!

Come tomorrow. Fulfill your promise.]

I remembered the last conversation Jean and I had. I smiled sadly as tears came out from my eyes. "Sorry. This time, I will break that promise."

After I read those, my phone died. I took the charger from the bag I was carrying but when I was about to plug it in, I stopped. I just put them inside the bag. I no longer need it, since I know my life will be different from now on.

"Rhein, you need to wake up." I gained consciousness when I felt Grandfather Lembo slightly shaking my shoulders. I finally woke up when he hit my forehead with his fingers.

I yawned and blinked my eyes. I looked in the direction of the window and at him. "It is still dark, Grandfather. Let us just start the training later—aaahh!" My spirit immediately woke up when I saw the knife in his hand. I fell back on the bed and away from him. "W-why is that?"

"I did not wake you up early for practice. I am here to help you release your partner."

"P-partner?"

"Have you forgotten? Each mage has a guide or 'partner' that they will be with for life," he explained, "However, a partner is only released every dawn on a mage's debut birthday. If you are unable to release your partner until the sun rises, you will not be able to release it again. You will live and die without seeing it. So if you want to see your partner and be with it, let it out."

"Then, what is the knife for?"

"You need it to wound your wrist. Your partner will be born from your blood."
