Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 How do you know it’s a ‘her’?

On her way home, Jessica went over the whole thing again and was more certain about not telling that she was Salinas.

Someone like her, a "nothing" girl from a humble family background, would only attract attacks than praises for now.

She also thought of the dress she had made and kept for herself, finding it hard to believe that she now actually owned a dress worthy of quite a few thousands.

She had learned to embroider from her mother, only because she was passionate about fashion design and embroidery was one of the many things she had to learn for her passion.

Growing up, Mum had been a plain and ordinary woman in her eyes. She seldom went out to socialize, nor did she seem to have any close friends. She embroidered endless though, not on anything serious but a piece of cloth or a discarded t-shirt, just for the fun or, as Jessica suspected, to kill time.

Getting older, she got to learn that her mother was actually an amazing artist in embroidery, perhaps one of the rare few of the entire country.

She tried to ask questions or even do research on her, but she stopped her with anger and tears. She had never seen her mother this hysterical and agreed never to probe again until she was ready to tell her.

Jessica thought of her recent dreams again, which were mainly dominated by "Jordan". Or was it really Jordan? Or just some man looking like him?

She remembered some of the "hot" scenes with Jordan in the dreams and felt her face heating up.

How mortifying! She should really find a man and go on date with him. Maybe that'd be the cure to this nonsense.

By the time she got home, her mother had gone to bed.

She showered, creamed her face, and ironed her work outfit for tomorrow.

Thinking of her coffee "date" with Jordan, she stuffed the more uptight-looking dress back into the closet and got out another that looked "happier" and girly.

She felt like giving herself a few slaps. They had just met and talked for a few minutes, and she was already brooding up a whole world with him?

Oh, God! Was she really that desperate to be loved by a man?

But Jordan was different, right? He had been with him for countless nights.

She blushed again but couldn't feel the heat jolting up from deep insider her, and felt that she was literally hopeless.

******

"Who are you?" Jessica asked, looking into his deep eyes which shone like stars against the murky night.

A layer of sorrow came to his face, "Your highness, you don't remember me now?"

Your highness?

Jessica was confused. She pressed, "Should I have known you?"

His arms around her tightened, "Don't worry. I promised to always protect you and love you, remember? Even if you don't remember now, it won't change that."

His words were so full of affection and love, and Jessica couldn't help but bury her face at the snook of his neck.

He started kissing the side of her neck, her shoulder, and her nape, and his hands probing lower down her back...

******

Jessica woke up feeling frustrated.

She and "Jordan" were repeating the same circle of "who you are" through the whole night and it kind of tired her out.

But luckily, she woke up in time and got to the office in time.

At the department's regular meeting, Mr. Halt assigned the investment case the company had in E Country to Jessica and it really excited her.

The JS Group's establishment in E Country had been quite a few years, so it was a very mature investment with lots to learn and do.

Jessica also remembered the coffee from E Country which Jordan had mentioned.

If she was on this project for long, she might be able to get the chance to visit E Country too and see the coffee plantations for real.

The JS Group had a huge garment factory and an industrial park in E Country, plus other businesses on a smaller scale, like a coffee plantation.

She couldn't wait to tell Jordan about it.

When it got to the appointment time with Jordan, Jessica took her coffee mug and went to the pantry.

Jordan was already there, holding a coffee mug and poring over a fashion magazine.

He looked up, saw Jessica, and smiled brightly, "There you are! I thought you wouldn't come."

Jessica blurted out, "Even if I won't come for you, I would come for the coffee from E Country."

Jordan laughed, "Yeah. Nobody could say no to E Country's coffee."

He stood up, got her mug over, and started making a cup for her.

Jessica glanced at the magazine he was reading, which was turned to the page of a dress, and she froze.

Oh, my God! Right there on the page in color print was her dress, the one she had designed under the name "Salinas".

Her heart thumped. But she was too far away to make out the text though.

Jordan came back with her coffee.

Handing it to her, he noticed her eyeing the magazine, and said, "Fabulous design, isn't it?"

Jessica nodded.

She sipped her coffee, and pretended to ask carelessly, "Who's the designer?"

"One that's named Salinas. Definitely new coz I've never heard of her. But talented from this piece of work."

"How do you know it's a 'her'?"

"Isn't the name 'Salinas' a very girlish name?" Jordan sat down in his seat again and looked at the dress on the magazine page.

Jessica sat down across the coffee table from him, "Actually, Salinas is a very neutral name, which means 'living in a large building or fortress'".

Yeah, perhaps she had dreamed of being able to live in a big house someday and that was why she had come up with the name.

But it just came to her mind and stuck.

Jordan looked up at her, "You're quite knowledgeable."

"I just happen to know a few names. So what's good about the dress?" She was somehow eager to know Jordan's view of her design.

"It's absolutely adorable. The embroidery is the kill of course. I wonder who this Salinas is and whether it's a man or a woman."

Jessica was very pleased with his positive comment, "But look here," she said, "here misses one needle, and that's why if you look really carefully, you would see a tiny spot looking a different tone of the color."

Jordan had a closer look at it and looked up at her again with utter surprise, "You ARE knowledgeable. Do you know to embroider?"

Oops! Almost got herself busted.

Jessica quickly said, "Girls might be more perceptive of details like that. By the way, today's coffee is great too."

Jordan looked fixedly at her. This girl seemed not to be as simple as he had thought. He was more intrigued.

Jessica got a bit embarrassed under his stare and looked down at her coffee.

Luckily, Jordan didn't press the issue. Instead, he asked, "You're coming to the party tomorrow, right?"

"What party?" She was surprised. Nobody had told her about any party.

"Company's anniversary fiesta, one of the biggest occasions of the year. Do come. I'd be glad to see you there."

"Okay. Sure." As a newbie, it would be an important occasion for her to get to know more people and fit in the place.

When Jessica came back to her desktop, she did find an email informing her of the party.

She was never "good at" partying, but could function alright if she had to be at one.

But what to wear for it? She started thinking.

She wanted to look more mature to fit her identity as a workplace lady, no longer a plain- and simple-looking school girl.

She had not bought any dress yesterday, thinking that she could rely on the one she had designed.

But now that it had become a known piece, especially known to Jordan, should she still wear it?

Plus, Candy had bought the piece yesterday. She would definitely wear hers, and it would mean they would be dressed completely the same.

Tomorrow would be full day at work, so she would not have the time to go shopping again in the evening because of the party.

She stayed uncertain the whole day about what to wear for the party, but by the time she went home and looked at the dress again, she decided to just wear it.

She laughed at herself. How silly she was! Nobody would bother what she wore. She was new and low-rank.

She blamed the odd dreams she had been having.

Perhaps they had made her feel more important of herself than she should, because to Jordan, she was also a stranger just a couple of days ago.
