Texas
I heard a knock on my door and I quickly paused the movie I was watching. "Yes, come on in", I shouted.
"Young lady, don't scream down my house" my mother said as she walked in.
I just rolled my eyes as she sat on my bed, "Thank you for knocking, yunno for a change. It's really appreciated but what's going on?", I asked genuinely interested because my mother never comes into my room to talk, she'd rather send up Eiffel to get me. Incase you are wondering, Eiffel is my little sister whom I love very dearly but she's an handful and I can't keep up with all of that energy. She's 10 so you could imagine all the buzzin' energy I have to put up with, but not to worry we'd visit that all in due time.
"What do you mean what's going on? I can't come chill out with my daughter in her room?", she said and threw a handful of popcorn in her mouth.
I narrowed my eyes at her, "You saying chill out in a sentence makes this dead weird. You look bothered, so spit it out". My mother is a beautiful woman, naturally curly brown hair, green eyes, she's got ass for days and tits too, not that I'm being pervy but those are some of her qualities I admire as a daughter. Her lips were pursed so I knew she was worried about something.
She sighed and swallowed the popcorn she was chewing, "I got promoted".
I squealed and squeezed her tight, "What the fuck ma? You should have announced that the minute you entered."
"Mind your language kid."
"You should spare me this one time, I'm happy." My mother works at a building company, what they do basically is build houses. They get contracts and whatnot then execute them, sometimes it takes her away from home for months on end just to complete a project. She was an assistant project manager and she had been gunning for the position of Project Manager for a while now and she has been promoted. She deserves it, if I do say so myself because she has slaved in that company for 3 years now without a promotion. With this promotion, I know it was literally like saying bye-bye to her because with a new role comes more responsibility but it's worth it. Her job pays fucking well which implies that she or rather we are fucking rich according to her bank statements that I've seen but despite all the affluence Chloe Greene brought us up to be prudent.
"The sad news is I'm gonna be away more", she sighed. "A project just landed and I'm going to Mexico, I'm heading that project kid. It's my first one, I want to put all my attention and time in it. I can't do that with you and your sister holed up here alone."
"Ma, it's not the first time we are staying alone."
"Yes I know Tex, but this time I might be gone longer than the previous times. This time coming, it's not a residential building, it's commercial and these things take time. Come on T, work with me here", she pouted.
"Okay okay. So where are you going with all of these? We follow you to Mexico?", I raised a brow because I don't see how that is going to happen.
"What? No no. You both are not coming with me to Mexico." I nodded for her to continue then she said, "I decided you both are going to stay with your Dad."
"What?! We'd move to New York? Ma, your sister lives like 10 streets away. Why not stay with her?"
"I don't want you to stay with my sister, Catherine is a fucking bitch. We've never gotten along and if you are half way like me personality wise like they say, you'd never get along with her. So I think Shane is a more safer an option and I know you miss your Dad."
Okay don't get me wrong, I fucking love my Dad but I'm thinking about moving and changing schools, that shit is hectic. Adding the cost of plane tickets and all, it's dead tiring.
Seeing my thinking face, she added, "Look on the brighter side, Nana is in New York, your aunt Cassie is in New York and you have your cousin Courtney, she attends NYU too. So it's not like you are going to a strange place, you've got family all over. You both are not gonna be alone, you are just going to be missing one person, which is me and I know you'll forget about me in due time because of all the family fun you'd be having." She nudged me with her elbow and gave me her puppy dog face.
I groaned, "Looks like you've thought this through?", she nodded with buzz. "You'd make a good Project Manager, just thought you should know. When do we leave and have you told Dad?"
"Yes I told him yesterday and he has started the process of moving your academic life over to New York. Judging with your father's personality and connections, you both will be moved in no time. You leave in a week", she smiled.
I laughed, "Hmmm, just like the businessman he is. I'm happy for you mama and I hate that it has to be like this but I'm dead happy for you", I said and hugged her again.
She squeezed me to herself, "Thank you my love. Why don't you get back to your movie and Eiffel will come get you for dinner. Call Kris over for celebratory dinner, you tell her and plan out to spend your last summer."
