Chapter 1 - Death

This weekend, the temperature had taken a sharp drop. Perhaps because the new year was arriving, the entire capital was bustling with excitement. Despite the fact that the winter was at it's peak, it did nothing to dampen anyone's enthusiasm.

Several luxurious cars made their way straight to the city center where the award ceremony was to be held.

The Golden Film Awards was regarded as the Oscars of the China's film industry. Anyone who was into films would know that being Nominated for this award was the highest distinction a film could receive. This award was a great accomplishment and testament to the production of films and the acting ability of the actors. All the big shots, Wang Yichen, Li Yinuo, Zhang Xuanyu, Liu Yi, Chen Haoxin, had received this award before.

Frankly, the Golden Film Awards also indicated one's status.

The red carpet appearance was over after two hours.

All the artists who had been nominated were nervous.

Yang Yihan looked rather anxious as well as she sat with the crew of the film 'Mountain' which had received several nominations and was highly anticipated to win most of them.

She had been nominated for the 'Best Actress' award for two of her films and had a good chance of winning for either of them.

She was the center of the attention the entire night and was projected on the big screen most of the time.

Yang Yihan sat there, her posture impeccably perfect, a smile on her face. She thought of Yang Yiyi, who had stitched her wedding dress herself, and secretly chuckled at her.

Huang Ziyi, the pretty hostess for the evening, went up the stage gracefully.

"Dear guests and audiences from all over the world, this is Huang Ziyi, and I'm your host for tonight! Welcome to the 52nd Golden Film Awards..."

The audience applauded her once she finished her welcome address.

After a short while, it was time for the award presentation.

"Up next, we'll be awarding the Best Editing Award." This award, as everyone knows, denotes the film's post-production excellence, which is one of the most significant components of filmmaking. Now, let's have a look at the works that have been nominated..."

A singing performance by an invited guest followed the first few awards. After a short interval, the event reached its climax.

"The next award we're presenting is...," Huang Ziyi exclaimed, with a wide grin on her pretty face.

...

Yang Yiyi's face was flushed as she laid huddled in the bed, terrified. The visible part of her body below her face was strewn with shocking hickeys.

Her pupils were still trembling fiercely from fright, as if she had just escaped from a tiger's den.

She couldn't forget about what had happened a few hours ago, though...

Zhao Yuhao had ripped her pyjamas apart and used a rope to bind her to the bed. He had continued to invade her regardless of how much she wept and yelled. He was like a rabid animal who couldn't stop when it smelled blood.

They'd been married for almost two years and had signed a nuptial agreement promising to mind their own business. Yang Yiyi was taken aback that he would suddenly cross the line in such a harsh manner. She couldn't understand what went wrong.

As of now, she felt so filthy that she thought of giving up her life. She felt worthless. Unworthy of her first love, Wu Yuchen.

But she knew better than that. She decided to talk to sister, Yang Yihan. She would know what to do. She always knew. In tense situations, when she panicked, Yang Yihan was always able to keep her calm and provide the best solution, as if things were always under her control. Yes, she would definitely know what to do.

With an aching waist, Yang Yiyi got out of bed with the bedsheet wrapped around her messily. First, she went towards the coffee table and picked up the half-filled cup of tea which had long gone cold. She could no longer bother to care if Zhao Yuhao had already drank from that cup after all that had happened. All she wanted was some fluid to moisten her throat which had turned sore from all the screaming she had done a while ago.

"Ah--", an excruciating pain shot up from her stomach just after a few sips. Her chest felt tight. What was happening to her? Was it because of the tea? Her eyes widened. But it was made of the tea leaves Yang Yihan had just gifted her this morning while praising her for her tea-making skills. In fact, she had herself prepared this a few hours ago and was just about to enjoy it when Zhao Yuhao had barged in.

Her body fell limp, her eyes wide and her mouth slightly opened as the teacup broke after falling from her now limp hand.
