Pattukudi is a small village of about 240 people. It is located on the shores of Kollidam River some fifteen miles north of Tanjavur, the Capital of Chola Empire and is ruled by the great warrior and King Rajendra Chola I, who captured nearly half of Asia - stretching from The Ganges in India to Sri Vijaya (present day Indonesia). The people of Pattukudi took immense pride in belonging to the Great Chola Empire. The generals that served the great emperor were very competitive. Their competence took the Chola kingdom to newer heights that were not seen before. All the disctrict generals reported to the high commission set up by the emperor. The village head of Pattukudi "Maarappan Mathiyan" reported to the General of the capital, "Vijayasekara Cholan".
