A week ago In a small town, an eight year old little girl and her family prepares to go on a trip to New York City. Her father always promised the trip for years, with each year the promise breaking, since she was four years old. "We'll go next year, promise." He'd say. This year, next year finally came- if only for a moment, as when they got to New York, they got into an accident that killed her father and older brother, and leaves her severely injured. while the mother is bleeding from her head, screaming for her family.
What the little girl wouldn't give for one more broken promise.
Present day in New York City, during a horrible snow storm, Peter Parker helps out at the same hospital his mother used to run, along with Ben, Andrea, Jill, Commissioner Stacy, and most of NYPD. Two paramedics then bring in an unconscious man off of the street, blood dripping down his face from a hit with a bat.
"Another mugging victim." One of the paramedics says.
The nurse sighs, already having to deal with six others in the last hour alone.
"Put him in eleven."
As they carry the man away, Peter feels both guilty and helpless, wanting to go out and help anyone who needs it. Andrea notices this, and puts her hand on Peter's, comforting him.
"I know you want to help in other ways, but not even you can fight crime when it's like this. Right now, this is the only thing you can do right now." Andrea whispers.
Peter sighs, smiling slightly to reassure Andrea, then holds her in his arms and kisses her on the forehead.
"I know. You're right." Peter says.
Andrea smiles.
"I'm always am."
The two chuckle while Jill playfully scoffs.
"Get a room you two." Jill says.
The two smirk at their friend.
At that moment, a group of men enter the hospital with guns in their hands.
"Alright, you people know the drill! Wallets, purses, and guns if you're a cop, now!" One of the men say.
While everyone complies with the mans orders both Peter and Ben share a look and nod with each other, as Ben sneaks away without anyone noticing. Soon the robbers get to an old woman who slowly hands over her purse, but one of the robbers notices her wedding ring.
"Cough up the ring too, lady."
Tears start to form in her eyes.
"Please, it's the only thing I have left to remember my husband, he passed away last year."
"Does it look like I care? Hand it over, or I'll reunite you two love birds as soon as possible."
Before the woman can fully take off her ring, Ben turns the lights in the hospital off, almost no one in the room being able to see. In the darkness, Peter easily takes out each of the muggers with quick and powerful strikes. When the lights come back on, everyone sees the men unconscious on the ground, confused and surprised by this. The police officers quickly arrest the men, while Peter pretends to not know anything about the men being knocked out on the floor.
"What happened?" Peter asks.
Commissioner Stacy looks around, knowing that Spider-Bat is among the people in the hospital, making the correct assumption that he was the one who took out the muggers and smiles.
"No idea." Stacy says.
Peter smirks, walking down the hall and seeing the woman involved in the car accident a week ago, sitting and waiting for an update on her daughter whose in the ER. She is soon approached by a doctor with bad news.
"Mrs. White, we've just received some very troubling news. The helicopter that was carrying the heart for your daughter has crashed over the ocean. We have lost all contact with them. Without that heart- I'm afraid Isabel won't have much time." She says.
Mrs. White drops to her knees, crying out loud.
"No! No! Not her too! Dear God, don't take her away too!" The woman screams.
Peter truly feels sorry for the woman, standing there in complete silence, before walking towards the backroom of the hospital. Jill notices this and quickly approaches him.
"Hey Pete, where are you going?" Jill asks.
Peter stops for a moment before turning around and answering the question.
"I'm gonna go get a heart for a little girl." Peter says.
Moments later, as Mrs. White is still upset by the news, a voice is heard next to her that surprises her.
"Excuse me, ma'am?"
The woman quickly looks up and sees Spider-Bat standing right there beside her.
"I think I can help you and your daughter." He says.
When Mrs. White hears this, tears start flowing again, covering her mouth. The doctor and Commissioner Stacy soon joins them in the hall.
"Spider-Bat?" The doctor asks.
Peter then turns to them both.
"What's the quickest way to the roof?" Peter asks.
Later, Spider-Bat stands on the roof with the doctor and Commissioner Stacy. Both Stacy and the Doctor shiver in the cold, while Peter stands perfectly still, not showing the affect the cold has on him.
"How long do I have?" Peter asks.
"Two hours." The doctor answers.
"Heard over the radio that the helicopter went down near the Hudson." Stacy adds.
"Is there anything we can do?" The doctor asks.
Peter stays silent for a moment, looking through the snow storm, barely able to see anything.
"Yes. Pray." Peter answers as he jumps off of the roof, surprising the doctor but make Commissioner Stacy smirks.
The hero tries to shoot out a web, but the weather causes it not to stick to anything and he falls to the ground below hard. Peter slowly sits up, clutching his lower back.
"Ah, my back."
He then looks at the timer on his wrist, seeing he has no time to waste, standing up to his feet and making his way through the snow, determined to get the heart for the little girl.
