Chereads / THE AMAZING SPIDER-BAT / Chapter 6 - FIRST NIGHT

Chapter 6 - FIRST NIGHT

As Peter looks through news paper, files, and notes on the crime rate in New York City, The police department, Commissioner Stacy, and a crime boss named Carmine Falcon, he hears the doorbell. Ben opens the door to reveal Harry Osborne, Peter's bestfriend.

"You mean to tell me, I have to hear you're back in town from the tabloids?" Harry jokingly says.

The two share a chuckle and a hug.

"I missed you, Buddy."

Peter smiles.

"I missed you too."

"Alright so. First night back, we gotta do something tonight."

Peter laughs.

"As much as I want to, I can't. I have some Parker Industries stuff to look over since I'm going to be running it one day."

Harry jokingly groans.

"See you haven't changed, you rather stay home and work than have some fun."

Peter chuckles.

"Sorry to disappoint. How is everything? How's your dad?"

Harry scoffs.

"The man's busy himself. Oscorp's profits are at an all time high, and he's become even more of a workaholic."

Harry then looks at Peter's smile.

"So you already saw Gwen, huh?"

"Huh? How do you- what makes you say that?" Peter asks.

"Come on, you've made that face every time you see Gwen since we were five. Gonna finally make your move, or what?"

Peter doesn't answer for a minute.

"I don't know. Things have- changed, you know?"

"Come on, Pete. She likes you, you like her, nothings changed. Your smart, so start acting like it."

Peter smiles and nods at his friend, hearing his advice but still not sure of what he should do about his feelings for Gwen. Harry then gets a text from someone.

"Woah, it's the twins I met last night, I gotta go. See you around buddy."

As Harry leaves, Peter sighs and takes off his glasses, Ben looks on at the boy.

"Are you not going to tell Mr. Harry or Ms. Stacy?"

Peter sighs.

"No. This is the safest option. The less people know about what I'm about to do, the better."

"Whatever you think is best, Sir."

Later, Peter and Ben then walks down a secret path way to the cave under the mansion. The young man flips a switch, turning on the lights he installed.

"Charming." Ben sarcastically says.

The butler then looks around and sees bats all around them.

"At least you'll have company."

Peter smirks and looks at the cave, thinking about all the possibilities.

"Let's get to work."

That night, peter starts spray painting the suit he got from Anna Maria. He spray paints the suit black and red, with lines that look like webs. He then makes a mask of the same material as his suit and connects the two together. Afterwards, he starts carving batshaped metal shurikens that he calls baterangs. Ben walks over and sees it and the symbol on the front of his suit and becomes curious.

"I understand the Spider part of this. But why bats, master Parker?"

"Bats scare me. Now the criminals of New York are going to share my fear."

As Ben nods and walks away, Peter throws one of the baterangs with so much force, it sticks into the wall.

Later on that night, as Commissioner Stacy walks into his office and sits down, a shadowy figure comes up behind him.

"Don't turn around. Stay calm. I'm not your enemy."

Stacy is alarmed by this, but keeps his composure.

"Breaking into my office doesn't really scream out friendship." The Commissioner says.

"It was either this or your house. I think I made the right decision." The mystery voice says.

"What do you want? To threaten me? intimidate me?"

"You're a good cop. One of the few."

"I asked you a question."

"Carmine Falcon brings in shipments of drugs every week. Nobody takes him down. Why?" The mystery figure asks.

"He's paid up with the right people."

"What will it take to bring him down, tonight?"

The Commissioner is surprised by the question.

"Leverage on Judge Faden. And a DA brave enough to prosecute."

"Do you have one in mind?"

Stacy thinks for a moment.

"Reyes. Rachel Reyes. She's one of the good ones."

"I hope so." The mystery man says.

"Who are you?" Commissioner finally asks.

The shadowy figure doesn't say anything for a moment.

"Watch for my sign."

Stacy is confused by this.

"Your what?... Hello?"

When George turns around, he sees that he's all alone in the dark room and sighs.

"What the hell just happened?" He asks himself.

Later that night, A group of men move boxes of drugs into a truck while Carmine Falcon is watching.

"Come on boys, get the lead out. I ain't trying to be with you bastards all night."

At that moment, when one of his men walks off to get another box, he is pulled into the darkness. Everyone stops what they're doing and looks around, hearing a noise.

"The hell? Hey, go check that out." Carmine orders.

Two men slowly walks through the area where the noise came from. The man infront sees a flashlight on the ground and goes to picks up. At that moment, a web comes down, sticks onto his back and takes him up in the air while he screams. The second man, sees this and quickly runs away and back to the group of men.

"Hey, there's someone or something out there boss, I don't know who or what, b-b-but they took Mikey, and I'm pretty sure they took Frank too."

Carmine is confused by this.

"Aye, don't piss yourself, alright. Just calm the hell down."

At that moment, footsteps can be heard coming from the shadows. Peter(wearing the suit) steps into the light, revealing himself to the group of men who start to laugh, except for one of them who just saw one of his friends taken away.

"You're kidding, right? This is the guy who has you running scared?" Carmine asks while laughing.

After a few more seconds of laughter, one of the other men approaches Peter.

"So who are you supposed to be, anyway?" He asks.

When the man doesn't get an answer, he swings at Peter, but the masked young man blocks and punches him in the gut then twice across the jaw. He then lands a backflip kick, knocking him out and landing on his feet, stunning everyone else there. Peter cracks his neck and stares down the group of men.

"Who's next?"

No one moves towards Peter, causing Carmine to get frustrated.

"Why the hell are you all standing around for? Go get the bastard!" Carmine demands.

The group of men(except for Carmine who runs to his car) all charge at Peter. The young man quickly shoots webs onto two men's chests and slams them face first into the ground. Another man runs in, after them, but gets easily knocked out with a single punch to the face. Peter dodges a punch from another thug and punches him in the throat. He then grabs him by the wrist, twists his arm and flips him to the ground, landing on top of him.

As he's on the ground, Peter sweeps another guy's legs from under him and quickly kips up to his feet. The man tries to land while on his back, but Peter catches his leg and breaks it. The last guy standing lands a lucky punch that has no affect on Peter. The man goes for another punch, but before he could land it, Peter hits him with a right and left hook to the face and and jumping roundhouse kick.

While that's happening, Carmine makes it to his car with a gun in his hand. He waits for either his driver to show up and get him out of here, or for the mask man to show up so he can shoot him, his body trembling out of fear.

"Who the hell are you?"

At that moment, Peter punches out the sun roof and grabs Carmine from the car.

"I'm Spider-Bat."

As fear is seen through Carmine's eyes, Peter knocks him out with a headbutt. He then looks over and sees a kid watching with his mouth wide open.

"Go home, kid." Peter says as the child nods.

The young man shoots a web, leaving with Carmine's unconscious body.

A few minutes later, as police officers surround the docks, Commissioner Stacy arrives on the scene. The Commissioner then sees the group of beaten up men with handcuffs on.

"Falcone's men?" George asks the cop beside him.

"Does it matter? We'll never tie him to it anyway." The cop replies.

The two men then looks over, surprised at what they're looking at.

"I wouldn't be too sure about that."

They quickly walk over to Falcone, tied up, mouth taped, with a note on his chest. Stacy grabs the note and reads it.

"Thanks for the info." The note says.

Commissioner Stacy can hardly believe it, looking around for the stranger who snuck into his office earlier in the night. He then orders his men to take Falcone and his goons away.

Meanwhile, The Spider-Bat stands on a roof top, watching Falcone being taken off the streets with a smile on his face.
