Chapter 3 - Sword 3: Library

SCARLETTE'S POINT OF VIEW

What happened last night . . . was a nightmare turned to reality. Imagining myself in that position is so . . . uh, yuck!

After I packed my things and wore my black backpack, I ran to our school.

I breathed deeply as I stared at the door of the principal's office. "There is no turning back," I whispered to myself. That monster deserved to be fired.

I held the doorknob and opened the door. The principal greeted me with a smile. She was sitting on her desk formally.

"What is it, Miss Sevilla?" she asked. I rubbed my hands to keep them from freezing. I cleared my throat before speaking. 'Come on, Scarlette! You have to do it!' I thought.

"Um . . . Principal . . . " I met her eyes. "S-sir . . . "

"He was fired." My eyes widened upon hearing that. "H-how?"

"Your aunt told me to." What the . . . How could Aunt do that to me? I already told her last night after I got home that I would be the one who will—ugh! Okay. It was already done anyway. "She also told me to look after you," she added.

"Thanks a lot, Principal." I sighed in relief. "No. Thanks to you. Demons inside this university had lessened." And then, she chuckled. I just smiled in response.

Aunt Cecilia was so mad when I called her. She even shouted that she was going to put that monster behind bars but I stopped her. Funny, was not it? But, seriously, it was not. I stopped her because it was only an attempted rape and I did not want more trouble.

After I ordered my snacks, I went to my usual table and sat. I just frowned when I saw my food. It was so plenty but what could I do? I was starving a lot! I did not get to eat dinner last night and breakfast this morning! Thanks to that monster guy!

By the way, I was glad to know that our new chemistry teacher is so nice. And I am more comfortable because she is a woman.

I was about to eat when someone sat in front of me. I mentally rolled my eyes when I saw her smile ear-to-ear. What now?

"What?" I almost muttered.

"What happened yesterday?" she asked. I gave her a confused look. "Huh?"

"Come on!" she slightly tapped the white table, "Did the beautiful man transform into a beast?" I closed my eyes and sighed. "Nah." I had to make an excuse.

"Why?" The curve on her lips faded. "Because he was not supposed to. He just asked for my aunt's phone number." Uh, it was not a lie, okay? It was the truth! Remember? You remember, right? Right? Answer me!

"Oh . . . wait! Do you know why he resigned?" Again, I mentally rolled my eyes! Ugh! Rhode annoyed me a lot! "Nah," I replied shortly.

"I do not like the new chemistry teacher. She is too strict and hard to understand . . . " Blah. Blah. Blah. I just looked down at my tray. The view was much better than the annoying girl in front of me. "I do not know why—"

"Do you have other businesses here? If none, please, go away. I can not enjoy my food when someone is with me. Please?" I gritted my teeth to show her that I was already annoyed. Yes, I am tired of being kind to her. She raised her eyebrows before saying, "Okay." Then, she walked away. Good thing that she knew how to understand.

I sighed in relief. Now, I could eat peacefully.

After my last class, I went to the library. Oh! Maybe, I did not tell you before. I signed up for being a library assistant. Why? I was bored even I have a stressful life.

"Good afternoon, Ma'am!" I greeted the librarian who was sitting at her desk. She just nodded and said, "Return these books." She pointed her forefinger to the mountain of books on the wooden table beside her. I smiled genuinely and followed.

I was humming an 'I-don't-know' song while happily returning the hardbound books. It was so wonderful! However, my moment was interrupted by a loud thud. I immediately found where it came from, behind the bookshelf which was placed in front of me.

A male student was picking the fallen hardbound book. I could not see his face because I was at his back. I cleared my throat to catch his attention. He stood up but did not face me.

"Be careful next time, Mister," I told him. And finally, he faced me. He walked in my direction while holding the large book. I could not help but raise my right eyebrow when I saw him smirk. His ash gray eyes stared at mine.

"Got it, Miss," he whispered as he passed beside me.

Those eyes looked familiar . . . even his voice. I just shook my head before continuing my work. It was impossible. My imagination seemed to trick me.

"See you tomorrow, Ma'am!" I was about to leave when the librarian called my name. "What is it, Ma'am?" I asked, a bit surprised when I saw her smile.

"A student asked me to give this to you," she said as she gave me a regular size cheeseburger. My forehead wrinkled in curiosity. "Who?"

"The student that borrowed a hardbound book here earlier. If I have not mistaken, his name is Asher Lucero."
