Chapter 16 Earth's Fate (1)

Many predictions and fantasies were made related to Earth's catastrophe that foretold the end of humanity.

Stories were written about an eruption of a deadly virus that gave rise to zombies and the undead.

There was also a global-scale war that foolishly escalated into nuclear war. This epitome of foolishness caused the Nuclear Winter that engulfed the Earth's atmosphere and blocked the sunlight.

There was also the helplessness of men, who could only watch an asteroid or other form of celestial objects impacting the Earth's surface. It killed millions upon impact immediately, while the subsequent earthquake and tsunami practically obliterated everything on the Earth's surface.

Another depicts the invasion of alien species that came to conquer the Earth. Zergs ran rampant while space beasts wreaked havoc and chaos among the humans.

But they would never expect that the reason for Earth's demise was something something as ridiculous as the Beast Contract!

-

When Lu Yang read the report by academicians, he thought to himself: any children (and it also holds for those who had become an adult) who know this reason would flip the table directly.

He believed many compatriots and comrades would agree with him on this. Even the perspective of a human who had survived among the other races for many years doesn't know how to retort.

Of course, it was not because of the absurdity of the issue.

But to the ridiculousness that such a petty thing caused Earth's destruction.

Haven't the Cosmic Civilization watched any show similar to Po**mon? Don't they understand our desire to have pi**chu and cha**zard as pets? Couldn't they understand what our childhood dreams meant for us?

Or don't they understand how cool it was to have a flying eagle as a pet or a moving skeleton as a summon?

Admittedly, these ideas of Lu Yang could only resonate with the modern generation of humanity who were influenced by various media and fantasy works.

For humans, it was like having our dream come true to have such an excellent partner by our side.

However, as he read the academician report, the ignorant him finally realized how dangerous these thoughts were.

-

To completely understand the mentality behind the offense, one needs to understand the impact of misuse of contracts.

It happened when the newly recruited Lu Yang had migrated as miners to a nearby solar system.

After losing contact with Seline, the Earth's demise happened not long after. In the search for hope of survival, human leaders reached out to former allies to escape extinction.

The other party agreed to take in all humanity willing to follow them. The condition they proposed was an employment contract.

The contracts themselves had no problems. It has generous remuneration and safeguarded everyone's basic need of food and shelter. It was similar to Earth's construction and mining work contract, though far better.

It included a clause to supply miners with minimum resources, helping Earthlings to cultivate their bodies.

For humans who had lost their planet, such promises of job security and guarantees were attractive. Almost all surviving humans accepted the proposition and migrated to a designated planetary.

However, as a party built based on commerce and interest, this was not an act of charity. The destination was not a life planet but a mining planet.

The difference was like heaven and abyss compared to Earth.

A life planet is a planet that is suitable for life. Green trees, flourishing flora and fauna, and abundant living resources could be found everywhere.

A mining planet, on the other hand, is a planetary that deposits many ores veins. These ores have high demand on the market. However, the planet's surface itself had limited resources to support life.

This was especially harsh for races like humans.

In their whole lives, they had lived in the comfort of their world. They who hardly cultivated or strengthened their bodies could not withstand the living conditions outside.

They can only survive by living in specific gravity, temperature, and humidity parameters. They need to breathe air at specific atmospheric pressure and air composition. They depend on certain resources, such as water, to survive.

For races like these, their general populace would cling to their home planet to survive. Even those who cultivated were reluctant to choose mining in remote regions as their job. This was because they knew these mining planets' living condition was harsh and dangerous.

Thus, people would avoid going to the mining planets as far as possible.

As for powerhouses that could live and travel long distances in space, they disdain working as miners.

However, it was not without any solution. Mine owners could terraform the mining planet or build a suitable living base for miners. This would fundamentally solve this problem.

But for either of these solutions, the long-term cost was too expensive. It was also too inefficient and had a low return rate.

It outweighs the benefit and profit they earn through mining.

But to increase profit or maintain a positive operation cycle, they need to reduce the living space construction cost and increase the mine's output efficiency.

This means they need massive labor.

To which the problem returned to the original problem, there's limited labor!

A vicious cycle.

For most mine veins, slaves and prisoners of war who had trained bodies and cultivated would be forced to mine in these mining planets. In this way, the mine owners could maintain the operation cost and gain profit.

So when Earth's leader asked for help, they felt it was the most suitable to send them there.

Earthlings had not adjusted to cosmic civilization. Most people had physiques unsuitable to work outside Earth. It is hard to let them survive on a different planet.

It was a different story if they were placed on a terraformed mining planet. On such terraformed planets, the living conditions could be adjusted and customized to suit Earth's surface.

The mining planet could accommodate all of humans. Through mass migration and a massive intake of miners, it was worth it to terraform a small-size mining planet or build a large-scale living base on a much larger mining planet.

Through this, the efficiency and output ratio of ores would increase, bringing a positive profit cycle.

With this in mind, they agreed to extend their help to humanity.

Fortunately for them, the chamber of commerce was not an unscrupulous merchant. After the great migration, they discovered that the planet was suitable for them.

Besides the limited resources and harsh living conditions as miners, it was not unacceptable.

As expected from a merchant who had a good reputation and was considered a good employer.

All surviving humans were given the choice to accept their offer. Upon migrating, they would be guaranteed all basic survival needs and shelter.

They would also be given basic supplies of cultivation resources to temper their physiques and increase their cultivation. This would facilitate them to better adjust to work in cosmic space.

And finally, humanity was also given hope to break their situation and fate!
