Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - His Dying Wish

In the stillness of what felt like an eternity, a sudden resonance rippled across the vastness of the domain which awoken her.

There was no light from where she was yet it was not darkness that surrounded her. From the moment she entered this stagnant phase of her life, she was patiently waiting for the end of his.

Slowly and steadily, the droplets fell faster and the ripples grew larger. The gateway which separated them soon opened and from the edge of his raw soul, she could feel him.

She could feel his sluggish heart slowly weakening and his vision was failing him. From the very tips of his fingers, the cold kept creeping and the warmth they once shared, slowly faded.

Despite his body voided of energy, his internal self was raging furiously. His consciousness flooded the gateway, overwhelming her with his intense emotions which burn every inch of her domain.

As she stood there watching his consciousness encircling her, she saw flashes of his memories, all broken up and distorted.

She had recognised some of the faces yet there was some that remained unknown to her. After all, she had lived within his body throughout his entire life and there were moments where she managed to catch glimpses of his daily activities.

His memories played like a film and dissipated into thin air just like a flickering flame and the very last memory she witnessed, was of his own death.

Mustering up his dying breath, he whispered a name so softly yet it echoed loudly enough for her to hear. His fire finally extinguished and what remained behind was her domain.

It was a wonder why he spoke that name out loud, even if there was no one around to hear him. She always had her suspicions and it was difficult to prove her assumptions being sealed in her domain but finally, she received the confirmation she always wanted.

And the answer was that he knew.

Somewhere along the way, he knew there was another consciousness living inside him. She didn't know how or when he became aware of her existence but his dying words was the first time he ever acknowledged her presence upfront to her.

With that, she knew what he wanted. That the name he spoke out was his dying regret, a wish left incomplete.

Although he had departed, hopefully to a better place, she could still feel traces of him, lingering within her domain. There was some parts of him that would not leave due to certain attachments in his life.

Looking into the abyss where she once felt his presence, she spoke out loud for the very first time and what would be their last words exchanged between them.

"If that is what you solely desire, as gratitude for accommodating me, I shall grant your wish, that before this life ends, I promise to fulfil. So go, rest in peace and be with your loved ones. Leave everything to me."

And with those words, he broke free and she was finally alone once again. With her back turn against him, she took a walk towards the gateway where it once stood and from there onwards, it would be her turn to live.
