"The wavelength is wrong because he is human!? But... but that is impossible!" Erugard could not believe his ears.
This was very impossible. It was like saying a bird and a dog had a child. It was just not possible. There are not the same species. Erugard could not fathom the gravity of her words.
But If it was true, and that is if? Then it made a bit of sense. But at the same time, it changed the entire game. He turned to Aaron and saw a look that explained Aaron felt threatened.
"Well, he should," Erugard thought to himself. It was only natural. If the boy was indeed Levinacks son, then it only meant that Aaron's position as Repono would be questioned.
This changed a lot of things. He had to inform Ellen immediately not to kill the boy.
Aaron looked at him and could guess his thoughts. "You shouldn't do what I think you want to!"
"Oh! I think I should. Or do you want the blood of an heir on your hands?" But in his mind, he was calculating ways how to use this knowledge politically. Having the boy might mean having control over the Thembeka family.
He immediately contacted Ellen but for some reason, she was not responding.
Ellen, on the other hand, was fuming in frustration. She had been chasing these 'ants' but they were just too slippery. And it was all thanks to the ever bending streets. This was a major disadvantage of chasing people in choked up areas.
They ran into what appeared to be a store for making clothes to hide from the angry crazy lady. The people all around had run away screaming "terrorists!"
"What do we do now!? Aesir asked Derek.
"I don't know! don't ask me. ask Maddy."
"Maddy, what next? you said we should go back and we did." Tiny chipped in.
Madaline looked at the faces staring at her in worry and for a second there, she did not know what to do. "Umm... We... we need to get back to the museum."
"The museum! Why!?" Aesir asked.
"Because that's the only THING! I can think of. I think Bast is there."
"Yes, she is," a soothing feminine voice answered.
All four turned their heads to look at the source of the voice. It was from a black cat that just happened to come out from beneath a pile of clothes on the floor.
Aesir nearly screamed in terror. "Oh my god! that cat just talked."
"There is no time for me to explain. Follow me!" The cat went through the window. They looked at one another and followed after it.
Meanwhile, Ellens anger only climbed higher. She could not believe that 'brats' that were before her very eyes could just disappear.
A rune to pass messages behind her ear kept on glowing and she finally relented and answered it.
"Have you killed them yet? Listen to..." It was Erugards voice
"No! but I will." She turned off the rune, "Not even allowing him to finish his statement. She was already angry and Erugard just added to it.
Madaline while climbing through the window mistakenly kicked a basket of yarns and one of them rolled out of the store.
Ellen was coincidentally facing that direction and the moment she saw the ball of yarn roll out, her whip came dancing there. "Found you."
"Run! Run!! RUN!!!"
They ran in the direction the cat went, but so did the whip.
Derek was starting to run out of stamina again. His headaches had suddenly started at this life-threatening moment. Tiny and Aesir noticed he was slowing down and put his hands over their shoulders to help.
Just another bend and there would reach the main road leading to the museum.
Ellen felt humiliated. Earlier on, she taught the most appropriate method would be to capture these idiots. And enjoy torturing them slowly till her heart's content. But now, she no longer gave a damn! If this 'ants' escaped her a noble Norminer, then she would have lost all face.
Her body started to glow slightly and tiny sparks of electricity appeared all around her. She slowly ascended into the air and a quill pen appeared in front of her. Her fingers held the pen lightly and moved in the air. Runes formed everywhere her pen went. When she was done, an incantation came from her mouth.
"Vincula"
Chains made of electricity shot out of the runes and swarm through the air in the direction of Derek and his friends.
"Get down!" It was a warning from the cat that suddenly jumped in front of the chains and spat out a scroll. The scroll unrolled itself in mid-air and a golden rune appeared from it. From the rune, came the outline of the face of a fierce wild cat that roared in the direction of the chains.
The chains disintegrated when the sound wave of the roar reached them. But one particular chain was persistent in its pursuit and it came from beneath the ground and went straight for Tiny's face.
Ellen had sent a chain through the earth beneath their feet.
Time seemed to slow down for everyone. Aesir saw it, Madeline saw it, Derek saw it, even the cat that had not yet landed on its feet saw it.
The chain glowing in blue electric sparks snaked towards Tiny's face. It was a life and death moment.
Derek wanted to move but he felt too slow. In his heart, he was pleading for someone to help her. Someone, anyone, he did not care. He already knew what would happen if that chain reached her. The terrible nightmare he had before flashed in his head. For a little moment there, it was definitely going to happen. In his head, he could already imagine that thing going through her and her blood splashing in his face splashing on
Just when it was about to hit...Derek pushed her, "NO!!!" and the chain suddenly stopped. In front of her, Derek opened his hands wide in defence. The chain stopped an inch away from his face and suddenly fell down.
The distance away, Ellen held her head in pain. The flow of her soul energy was suddenly interrupted. She looked at her hands, there were shaking. She looked up at the 'ants' in disbelieve. But there were no longer there. "What just happened?"
The cat had spat out another scroll and a rune glowed on their bodies making them invisible. Ellen looked at the position Derek and his friends should have been in. There was nobody there. She came down from the sky and surveyed the place but could not find them. She decided to retrace her steps back and flew in the direction she had come from.
Meanwhile, the 'ants' Ellen was searching for laid before her very eyes but were made invisible by a rune. The moment she was gone, the shield collapsed and the cat urged them to follow. Aesir carried Derek on his shoulders. He had fainted after that scream.
The cat took them to a huge stone wall behind the museum. This was the same place they appeared after going through the gate.
The cat approached the wall and phased through it."Follow me," its voice came from within.
They looked at themselves for a while and finally decided to follow. Besides, anywhere was better than out here. Not with that crazy woman running all around.
