To the world, the Alfin saga has come to an end. The enemies won and now it was time for revenge. This is how most of the players treated his story.
Because at the end of the day, this was a game and had an ongoing storyline created by devs. And Alfin's abduction was always going to happen after his purpose was accomplished.
He was an NPC whose sole purpose was to act as a connection between the two worlds and then go away when the world got used to their existence.
A lore friendly method to explain their existence that is.
But to some, this was not the case. Wilkis was aware of the ramifications of losing Alfin. It might be that he had lost a time bomb which was kept secure in his care, but it didn't mean he could completely abandon him.
He needed to uphold his promise. And not let any harm come to Alfin until the child inside him is born into the world. For he can only imagine the disaster it would be if the mother of that child got a bit crazy.
