Zombies...a lot of people could argue that zombies are a cool monster that you used to see on tv, but if you saw the world we live in would you be able to say the same?
Who knew that this could happen all of sudden, people were slaughtered by such a beast we didn't know anything about. We waited and waited for the government but it was clear they wouldn't do anything to save us so of course people decided to split up and go alone.
I never knew what happened to the rest of the people we encountered along the way but knowing how bad it is, it's safe to assume that they're dead. There's no sugarcoating these harsh times by saying 'oh it'll get better' or 'the government will eventually come and save us!' We all knew that those words were all bullshit and that no one would come. If we wanted to survive we would have to do it ourselves.
But I'm getting ahead of myself aren't I? Why don't we go to when it all started.

The day started like every other, my head would hurt one morning and then would leave by the time I had breakfast with my family before heading to school.
Everything seemed fine, I saw my mother make breakfast for my two youngest sisters as my other sister who was only 2 years younger than me was washing the dishes.
As usual I helped put the dishes away while I ate a piece of bread before heading to school. "Bye mother I'm heading to school."
She waved as usual as I left for school. I'm not sure why she was awake at 6 anyways with my sisters since at this time they would be sleeping in their cozy beds but that will forever be a mystery to me.
When I arrive at school I looked around to try and find my friends but they weren't at their usual spot until suddenly I felt the lightest tap on my shoulder as I jumped in surprise
"Mel! You don't have to scare me like that" I said shaking slightly from how quiet she could be. It's strangely criminal
"Oh autumn you're here too?" I asked as autumn slowly pulled her hair back "I got here at the same time as Mel"
"I see." I looked around to see if I could find my other friends as well but they weren't in the lunch room so I just left them be, plus it's not like I had that much time to find them anyways
"So autumn, Mel...I have a question for you two"
The two twins looked at me as if they seemed a bit worried "yeah what is it?" Autumn answered
"Well I've had this strange feeling ever since I woke up this morning. Everything seems odd... for example my family was up at 6 am today which is unusual for them."
Mel listened as she looked up at me "that's off..." she put her finger on her chin. For some reason Mel always had the ability to tell if something was wrong just by looking at it so I knew if she thought anything was wrong then my concern would be validated.
"Now that you say that everything looks bland...almost like people are missing?" We all looked around the lunch room as we noticed very little people that morning
"You're right!" Autumn said as she began to feel a bit uncomfortable now "what do you think that means?"
I only shrugged it off "maybe they all decided to stay home? Or is there something we don't know about?"
Mel shook her head "whatever it is we need to check it out." The both of us agreed as we got up from our seat and walked around
We made it throughout all the halls but there was no sign of anyone that we knew or anyone in general "it's all empty..." i felt my heart drop as we moved closer to the end of the hall
"Autumn...can I see your phone for a second?" I said hesitantly
"Sure." She said handing me her phone while she had the same expression as me
When I got her phone I called my family to see if they would pick up but no one answered
"I think this problem is deeper than we anticipated" I gave autumns phone back to her while walking ahead of them
While they walked behind me I heard someone yell from the hallway next to us "what the-"
That's when we saw it...the green terrifying creature who's skin looked as rotten and green as mold on bad cheese
"What the fuck..." i moved back scared almost falling on my knees from the shakiness of my legs that could barely hold me up now
"What are you guys doing?!" Autumn yelled at me and Mel "you guys are too slow!" She grabbed the fire hydrant from the wall as she wacked the zombie that was close to biting into the girl's neck
"Don't just stand there damnit get something to use as a weapon!" Autumn yelled once more which snapped me and Mel back into our senses
We rushed into the nearest classroom trying to find some weapons or at least anything to use as a weapon but couldn't find anything worth using
"Damn...we've run out of luck." I sighed saying "I might have an idea but We'll have to be quick with it."
They both nodded at me as they listened full heartedly "ok so we might have to walk around the school looking for fire hydrants like autumn has right now. That's the best option we have....so I need autumn to be in front of us to protect us from lingering zombies and we have to rush to a few classrooms to check for anything on our way to the nearest fire hydrants."
Mel sweat dropped as she shook her head towards me "wait I don't think autumn should be the one to fend off those monsters...let me do it."
Autumn looked at her twin with shocked eyes "absolutely not! I have to be the one to do this. Plus I don't want you getting hurt either"
I sighed looking at them both "Mel I know how you feel but we only have to do this for a while until we get fire hydrants and based on where the zombie suddenly appeared I doubt there will be more zombies around that area near the cafeteria"
"But I-" Mel started to rebuttal but autumn quickly shushed her "no. None of you should do this so just let me do it for you. But if it makes you feel better than let's get some books and rulers from this classroom and use it as more protection"
Mel held her tongue as she bit her lip slightly but agreed. And with that we grabbed the remaining stuff we could and left the room
While we walked down the hallway we couldn't hear as much noise as before which probably meant a lot of people either fled or got eaten with the remaining zombies.
"Damn..." I held my breath slightly suddenly smelling the scent of blood which made me a bit nauseous
"Hold it in both of you." Autumn said serious "we can't die here because we suddenly are more worried about the smell then our lives."
Mel nodded "yeah you're right." I nodded to that as well and we departed to each classroom checking every room we saw but nothing was in there.
We began to lose hope until mel noticed something as she tapped our shoulders "I think I see something down that hallway..."
We all looked over to see what Mel had saw and something glimmered in the sun. We approached it with caution as we slightly noticed the colors of red on it "wait...it's a fire hydrant!" I whispered out loud
Mel and autumn smiled at each other until we realized that only one of us could take it "oh..." Mel said silently
Obviously I didn't wanna waste time trying to fight over a fire hydrant "here mel take it. You were the one to find it after all so you should have it." I gave her a small smile
Mel bit her lip slightly "I can't...it's selfish of me to just take it and leave you helpless"
"I'll be fine mel and besides we're close to another fire hydrant so I'll just use this scissors to defend myself until then." I tapped her shoulder and gave her the fire hydrant "it's not up for debate."
She slowly nods as she takes it and holds it ready to fire at any time. "Do you know how to work that thing?" I said nervously
"No" she laughed slightly feeling a bit embarrassed "idiot." I smiled as I put her hand on the handle "just press that and it should start. The instructions is on that too so you can look at that if you forget." I gave her a reassuring pat on the back as we went on our way
We walked and walked but with every step we felt like the floor was sinking down with us. Our hearts couldn't stop beating after every little noise would cause us to flinch hard.
I can't deny we were on edge, hell even Mel who felt like she could hide her emotions well was pretty scared.
Autumn looked like she was going to protect us with all her might but even I knew she was at her limit with how scared she was too.
We finally reached the hallway with the last fire hydrant but the sight we saw was unbearable...people's head were bitten off leaving nothing but their eyes and left over head to be spilling over with guts.
I almost threw up at the sight but decided that wasn't the biggest issue right now. I grabbed the remaining fire hydrant as we headed back down the stairs
And thats when we saw it. The brain eating monster bastard that was there for two things, eating our brains and making us one of them. Either thing wasn't good at all
We prepared our fire hydrants just in case it attacked us but strangely it didn't. We ran right past it and it didn't do a thing "what...that's weird" I said aloud as we made it back to the cafeteria
"Heads up." Mel said as we saw way more zombies in the commons area then I had originally hoped. "It's time to put these things to use." I said as I got ready to fight them off immediately
They nodded as they did the same. Not one of us made a move first since we wanted to try and make it out alive without having to attract attention
But of course not everything works out like you want it. One wrong noise can be the death of you and now we all understood that.
We heard a girl scream from the other hallway as the zombies turned their head to see us standing there. Of course it didn't take long for them to charge at us all at once
"Why are these bastards actually fast?!" Autumn yelled as she sprayed them with the fire hydrant first.
Since the zombies were dead of course they couldn't feel the foam in there eyes and still continued to charge at us "damnit it didn't work-" autumn started to say but was quickly cut off because before we knew it the zombie was 6 inches away from her.
She yelped as she was about to get eaten before me and mel banged the zombies skull open and knocked it to the ground
"Run! Just because they're a little faster doesn't mean they're fast then us! But if we stay here we'll be outnumbered so try and make it to the door!" I yelled out before we booked it towards the door
When we finally got out only more zombies were there to be found. "Fuck...we're doomed." Mel said as she looked around the area "come on guys. We can't die here and I won't let us!"
Me and autumn smiled determined as we yelled "yeah!"
Dumb mistake
The zombies heard that too as they kept coming from all over the place "fuck." Mel said as she tried to fend them off
"Guys over here!" I called for them as we booked it towards the golf car that was parked in front of the school for the teachers to keep tabs on students who tried to escape school
"Get on!" I yelled as they immediately got on not giving it a second thought.
"Do you even know how to drive yet?!" Autumn yelled as we frantically tried to find the keys to this golf cart
"Uh yes we're 17 after all. If you don't know how to drive that's quite embarrassing-"
"We have no time for that just go!" Mel said as she found the keys in the front cabinet near the airbag
"Alright alright I'm going!" I placed it in and immediately drove off school grounds and into the streets of what we once called home.
The zombies tried to catch us but they weren't faster than the cart so we're safe for the time being.
After a few minutes of driving away we finally made a stop as we take a five minute breather "can you believe we actually made it out of there?"
Autumn shook her head "of course not. This all still feels like a dream. Half of me still wishes this was fake but the other half has already accepted it."
Mel nods "I have to agree with autumn on this one. All we have are fire hydrants as weapons and we cant seem to find anyone outside right now..."
I put my finger on my chin "you would think the whole world would be into panic right now. People running into the streets...smashing windows...but it's all empty"
Mel sighed as she put her fingers through her hair "well everything does already seem destroyed..maybe we were just late to the party."
Autumn took a deep breath as she stood up "well I don't know about y'all but I think it's best to go find some better weapons then these pieces of junk." She kicked the fire hydrant which thankfully didn't explode.
I sighed as I put my hand on her shoulder "chill. We'll find better weapons once we head downtown. Maybe we can find a few guns and other things."
Mel smiled which was strange Im a situation like this one "yeah let's look on the bright side. At least we aren't dead."
Me and autumn kept silent to that statement as we looked down "I wish we were if I'm being honest..." Autumn said silently
My eyes widened as I flicked autumn's forehead "shut up. We'll get out of this one way or another and I'll make sure we'll survive
Till the end."
Mel smiled "yeah there we go. Now let's get this cart moving and go find some available stores that are broken down and might have a decent weapons."
We all nodded as we got right back into the cart and drove away.
I don't know what we're gonna do from here on out but all I know is,
We'll survive till the end.
