BELLADONNA: The Deadly Nightshade
07 – The Mother
Gavin stared at his mother with a stifled annoyed look.
It felt like he was boiling with anger, like a teapot on the stove, ready to ring loudly in a moment. But Gavin was a man who had been taught manners since in the womb, so for the sake of upholding the custom of modesty, he restrained himself and bit his lip, holding back the torrent of sentences that were on the tip of his tongue, all he could do was stare at his mother with a sharp gaze. As if to say 'see-my revenge.'
Mrs. Kingston, the woman Gavin was staring at with this murderous gaze, tried to ignore her son, who was already fit to have children, was sulky. He continued the meeting in a flexible style and managed to amaze the meeting participants with her brilliant ideas.
The applause ended at her short speech and the meeting was over. One by one, her employees left the room, leaving only Gavin and Mrs. Kingston.
"So …." said Mrs. Kingston while approaching Gavin who is still sitting in his chair, still in a sulky position "What brings you here?"
Gavin looked at his mother for a moment and stood up, "What do you want, mother?"
Mrs. Kingston put her hand on Gavin's chest, felt the material of his jacket with affection "I want you to take over this business."
Gavin groaned "I have a job."
"DJ? No, hu-uh. " His mother shake her head with an annoyed look "It's not even a job."
Gavin looked back at his mother. "At least it's a pretty cool job compared to concocting women's cosmetics."
A faint smile appeared on Mrs. Kingston's face, despite being in her fifties, she looks pretty and toned. Her skin is well maintained. "I didn't ask you to mix cosmetics, I asked you to manage the company."
Gavin shook his head "It's your thing, mother, not mine."
"Gavin Kingston." His mother's tone sounded crisp, Gavin pursed his lips, he knew he was in trouble, every time his mother made that tone "You know those rules and wills?"
Rules and wills are useless! He complained to himself. He nodded, too angry to speak.
"Now then, why don't you start following them?" asked his mother in a sweet tone. As sweet as honey that contains poison to Gavin. "You have met all the requirements except for one thing…"
Gavin groaned "Mom..."
The look in Mrs. Kingston stopped his sentence, Gavin sighed and changed his tone to a more formal "Mother, one thing I know for sure, I don't want to get married."
"Not yet." His mother corrected him "You just haven't found the right woman, hm?"
Gavin shrugged his shoulders. "A lot of women are right according to you, but I will not marry."
"You're not gay, aren't you?" his mother asked, worried. "But I think we can sort this out. You can get married and having babies by surrogate mother."
"No, Mom. I'm straight." Gavin replied, "I can get any women I want!"
"So, what are you waiting for?!" asked his mother just like an ad jingle, her persuasive tone almost made Gavin surrender "Marry a woman, give me a grandchild and we're never ever starving again."
Gavin exhaled when he heard his mother's words. The events of a several years ago came back to mind, the feeling of hunger that gripped him so badly that he felt like he wanted to die rather than feel his stomach churning unbearably.
Her mother's soft hand touched Gavin's cheek, the woman looked at Gavin with a sad stare. "I promise, you and your family will never feel hungry again. Your stomach will always full and you don't have to worry about food supplies."
Gavin nodded. A sudden feeling of sadness and misery gripped his chest. Squeezing his ego.
"Just give me a wife, any woman you want." Mrs. Kingston grabs Gavin in his arms. "And we own this company completely."
