Chapter 1 - Prologue

I was staring at the boundless sky, where life could barely be seen; wondering and questioning myself, "What is the purpose of us humans? Why did God create us? Where is mankind's final destination?". However these questions were never answered.

I rested my arms on the edge of window. In doing so, I noticed cheerful primary kids playing tag. The smiles on their faces were so vivid that it made me think that they had nothing to worry about. Which is true in a sense- as long as they behaved properly, they could do anything they want.

"Oh, freedom! When are you going to embrace me!" I yelled at the nothingness in the atmosphere. Good thing the kids didn't hear me.

I closed the windows, since I felt sudden chills due to the icy winds piercing my face and then I decided to read a book. The book was called "Infinity and The Mind" by Rudy Rucker. It's about the writer explaining different philosophical views towards infinity; infinity can be counted and some can't be counted; there are smaller infinities and others are labelled as "inaccessible infinities". I opened the book to page 169 and started to rea-

"Homura! Come downstairs, please", shouted my mum, "Dinner is ready!"

Yes, my name is Homura Kudou and I am your average 16 year old high schooler, who has no hobbies nor any interests towards activities that involves consumption of energy. I rarely hang out with the few friends I have. My school grades are just above average, however I don't even try my best when there is an exam. After all, if you can graduate from high school with average grades, you can still get into a decent college. To summarize all that- I am a boring guy.

I wore my grey jumper and hurried downstairs. Nothing seemed unusual; my dad waiting for the food while watching news; my mum preparing food for us; me doing absolutely nothing. After I sat down, my mum placed three plates for each of us on the table. The food looked normal today as well; it was just yakisoba with miso soup...

"Thank you for the food!" all three of us said in sync.

I was savoring the yakisoba while watching the news. The news was talking about a sudden increase of density in the atmosphere. To be honest, I was kind of shocked when I heard that the density of the atmosphere increased, however I did not show any change in my expression in front of my parents.

Density is directly proportional to pressure and inversely proportional to temperature, so an increase in density would mean an increase in the world's pressure or decrease in temperature. It did not make any sense to me because the temperature today was around 27°C and nothing seemed wrong with the pressure of the atmosphere, otherwise they would warn us in any news channel. Well, there is no point in trying to find out the causes of this event since it is not my job anyways. But there is one thing I know: an increase in density of the atmosphere, will have a significant impact on the world. Hopefully that impact will take place after I die.

"The food was delicious today as well" I said as I stood up from my seat.

"Thank you, honey" replied my mum energetically while she clapped her hand.

"I'll head back to my room" - I took a final sip of the water.

There was no response, therefore I decided to head upstairs.

I turned on the TV in my room to the news channel I was watching before and then I grabbed a book. The book was different from the one that talks about infinity. This book is called "Space, Time and The Limits of Human Understanding". I have not read the book before, but the synopsis of it sounds interesting- How is the universe created and what is it made up of. That's what this book talks about.

I saw the front cover of the book and it made me raise a complaint.

"Space and time, huh?" I muttered, "I hope it won't be too difficult to read"

To be honest, I already knew what the universe is made up from; a single universe is a space-time continuum that is made up of countless celestial bodies.

Technically, you learn this when you are in university, however I just couldn't beat my curiosity. When I first read about space and time, it literally blew my mind. There are still many topics related to it that I fully don't understand but hey, I'm a teen.

"I give up, I will read this book later...I think" I sighed.

I jumped out from my bed and headed towards the window to check if the kids are still playing there. Unfortunately, they are not there anymore. So I decided to watch the news. However what I heard next from the news was so shocking that I let go of the remote.

I dashed downstairs to alert my parents, however I saw them in a state of panic. I think they also heard about the news.

"Mum, dad...Did you hear the news?" I asked them.

"Yes, we did. Pack your things up right now. Take only the valuable stuff" replied my mum with a worried face.

"Hurry up! We are also going to take our belongings in a sec" shouted my dad.

"Y-yes" I replied while I ran upstairs.

I quickly opened my cupboard and put three sets of clothes, my charger, phone inside a small luggage. And grabbed all the money I saved up till now and put it inside my side bag. There is no way I am leaving my life savings behind. I had to work my ass off to save all these money...

Who is it to blame: Luck? Fate? Humans? Or is it just a test from God?

Tch, why must a random meteor crash on the city I am living on?
