Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 11: You're Different

Fast footsteps on tiled floors echoed throughout the empty staircase as a young woman could be seen racing up it as she kept taking one set of stairs after another until there was no more to be taken,

As fast as she could, she ran forward, with all the swiftness of a cat and all the calmness and indifference that came with it although anyone who took a closer look at her would have been able to see how shaky her fingers were, while she kept on making fists with her hands as she did her best to hide it,

"Knock...knock," rapping her knuckles on the thick iron doors she came to stand in front of, making sure to knock just twice before coming to a standstill in front of the door like a statue, breathing as lightly as she could,

Seconds went by then minutes, and regardless, it seemed like the young woman in front of the door had no intention of moving a muscle, going as far as to try her best not to blink,

The air was stagnant and even the wind seemed to come to a standstill in the entire building, as the silence that pervaded every corner was almost two inches thick,

"Whoosh…," the thick metal door unexpectedly opened from the inside, as the young woman standing in front of it immediately staggered back in surprise, a rating at the dark open space in front of her, which made one wonder why she knocked on the door in the first place if she hadn't been expecting it to be opened,

She had barely taken a step into the darkroom, which was slightly lit up by the lights from the corridor when she heard the booming voice of a man sitting on a shiny throne which was obviously made of rare gems which immediately fed on the little lights that hit them and they quickly sparkled without remorse,

"Stay," it boomed loud enough to make her freeze and turn her into a real-life statue this time around,

"What do you want? Unlike what that old woman has told you, I don't grant wishes anymore. I have no idea why she would dare to leave you here. It's almost like she doesn't care about your life," said the deep voice to her as she felt his unflinching gaze on her although her face was bent, as she went as far as to use her long black hair to cover the sides of her face,

"I….I'm here of my own will, Ki-Kisora" she stammered back at him as she tried to have a conversation with the obvious owner of the house,

"Hmmm. What is it this time, Jade? Food, drinks, a rabbit died in my back garden," the man said as Jade easily made out the small smirk on his face,

"No. It's something important. I got a message this morning that an egg is missing," she explained in a rush knowing how important the eggs were to him,

"Hmmm. Are you saying the food and the drinks you offer every day aren't important?" He asked as he openly teased her while Jade wondered why he was ignoring the information she had just given him, and how he knew about the food if he never opened the door,

"They smell exceptionally nice," he added, almost as if he had just read her mind,

"What about the egg?" She asked with a worried expression on her face with no intention of dropping the topic,

"Hmmm. What colour is the missing egg?"

"Green," she promptly answered remembering exactly what she had read on the letter right before it disintegrated,

"Green?" He asked with a confused expression on his face, seeing how there were a lot of eggs that were green and had been sitting exactly where he put them for a thousand years,

"Deep green...Forest green...Hunter green" Jade mumbled to herself doing her best to recall the exact shade of green she had read,

"Jade," Kisora growled in a deep voice as he watched his caretaker's head snap up the moment she heard her name,

"The egg is Jade green and I must have stayed hidden for too long for anyone to think it was okay to steal one of them," Kisora said with a bewitching smile on his face that made Jade want to dive underneath the table as she watched him bring out his huge tail from behind him, placing it in front of him until it was the only thing she couldn't stop looking at,

"I have stayed in this human form for so long that someone is starting to see me that way instead of what I truly am," Kisora spoke mostly to himself but loud enough for jade to hear,

"Why else would someone dare to steal from me?" He asked with his eyes closed as he tried to let go of all the emotions he felt, his tail unmoving at his feet,

Jade saw Kisora look so troubled since that was usually when he made sure to let go of all his emotions. Jade knew him well enough to understand that the missing egg spelt nothing but trouble for whosoever took it,

"I know who you truly are and I like you regardless," Jade whispered admiring every part of him even the tail which she seldom laid eyes on,

"Hmmm. But do you know who I was a thousand centuries ago? Feelings are fleeting and I can't help but wonder when yours would change. Would you like me if you got to know the real me, the dirty side of me or it's the powerful side that turns you on?" Kisora spoke staring deeply into Jade's eyes regardless of the space between them, with no intention of missing a single detail of how she would react to what he said,

"Everyone has their bad side, even me. Does that mean that I don't deserve to be loved because of it?" She asked with tears blocking most of her vision as they threatened to spill out from her eyes,

"You are different. People don't see you and immediately call you a monster. You don't see other humans and instantly want to gouge out their eyes just for the fun of it," Kisora said softly, not pleased in any way to see her cry,

"That's not true. I'm human and you'd never hurt me," she replied wiping her eyes, looking up at him with eyes that glistened bright enough for him to want to continue staring,

"Like I said. You're different," he said right before snapping his fingers with a snap watching Jade disappear from where she stood, transporting her downstairs in a blink of an eye as the thick metal doors of his room slammed shut,

With a sigh, he rested his head back on his throne, almost as if he intended to go to sleep only for his eyes to pop open as a gruesome expression was slowly etched on his face,

His red eyes, bright enough to illuminate his face,

"It's sad when I have to go on a killing spree when all I want is to be left alone," he sighed, closing his eyes back as he appeared to genuinely go to sleep,
