Chapter 3 - The School

In the corner of the class, there sat a beautiful girl, with blue-like emerald eyes & stunning jet black hair & beside her, sat a boy with sluggish expression with brown eyes & a bit of black-brown mixed hair. His looks were average; he was looking in front of him with a face that showed no emotion at all. He was giving off a vibe like, 'what the hell I did to deserve this?

After getting destroyed by Amanda's words, I looked around the class that, everyone, most of the boys were looking at me with envious eyes.

After a bit of looking around, I deducted one thing, I was getting unwanted attention.

Why? Because of some random obnoxious girl, who sat beside me?

She was beautiful; by normal standards, she was exceptionally beautiful but why the hell was I getting the attention, look at her all you want, not me, I am not some handsome like that other guy over there who sat silently like a model student with green eyes & blonde hair, by far in the class he was the most handsome guy, I could spot. And by the looks of him, he had fair manners & modest character; he was the perfect role model this class needed.

But right now why the hell am I supposed to do?

During that moment, the first bell rang & the whole class's attention went to the entrance of the room.

At that precise moment, a woman entered the classroom.

When I first saw her, my first impression was that she firmly believed in discipline. If I had to guess, I would have placed her at between thirty & thirty-five. She wore a suit & had delicate features. Her hair seemed long, and she had tied it into a ponytail.

"Good Morning students. I am the instructor for class D. My name is Elena Johnson. I usually teach Chemistry. However, at this school, we do not change classrooms for each grade, and for the next three years, I will be acting as your homeroom teacher, so I hope to get to know all of you. It's a pleasure to meet you. The entrance ceremony will be in the gymnasium one hour from now, but first, I will distribute written materials with information about this school's special rules. I will also hand out the admission guide."

The students in the front seats passed back the familiar documents I had received after being accepted.

This school differed from any other high school in a few key ways. Here, all students were required to live in the dormitories located on school premises, except for some special cases. Students were forbidden to contact anyone outside the school. Even contact with your immediate family was forbidden without proper authorization. Naturally, leaving school grounds without permission was also strictly forbidden, but I highly doubted that.

However, the campus also came well equipped with many excellent facilities. With its own game arcades, theater, café, swimming pools, and many more, you could easily compare this school to a small highly developed city. The campus was spread over more than 700,000 square meters.

Did I wonder how much money Govt. spends every year to maintain this place & was it worth it?

If a student by any means got accepted in this school, he could relatively a live peaceful life, without worrying about his parents, the Govt. will handle everything. Because the sole reason for this institution was to create Future leaders, who will strengthen this country.

And also this school boasted another unique feature: the P System.

"I will now hand out your student ID cards. By using your card, you can access any of the facilities on campus, purchase goods from the store, and so on. It acts like a credit card. However, it is essential that you pay attention to the points that you spend. At this school, you can use your points to buy anything. Anything located on the school premises is available for purchase."

'Anything' it's kind of freaky, I thought.

Our points, loaded onto our student's ID cards, acted as a kind of currency. The lack of proper money would prevent many students' financial troubles. However, students needed to keep a watchful eye on their spending habits. At any rate, the school provided these points free of charge.

"Your student's cards can be used simply by swiping them through the scanner. The method is simple, so you shouldn't get confused. Points are automatically deposited into your account on the first of every month. You should all have received 10,000 points already. Keep in mind that one point worth is one dollar. No further explanation should be necessary."

The classroom erupted.

In other words, we had received a $10,000 monthly allowance from the school upon admission. I'd expect nothing less from a massive institution run by the government. $10,000 dollar is a rather large sum of money for a high school student.

But again that odd thought struck my mind 'was it worth spending this much money on a high school student? What's the reason that Govt. was spending millions of dollars every month like it was nothing? Something was not right.'

"Shocked by the number of points you have been given? This school evaluates its students' talents. Everyone here has passed the entrance exam, which itself proves your value and potential. The amount you have received reflects the evaluation of your worth. You can use your points however you want. Once points have been deposited into your account, it's up to you how to spend them. Do as you like. In the event that you don't want to spend your points, you may transfer them to someone else for safekeeping. However, stealing or forcefully taking money from someone is not allowed. This school monitors bullying very carefully."

As the students started chatting among themselves, after the exciting news, she looked over the room.

"Well, it appears that no one has any questions. I hope that you enjoy your time here as students."

"This school doesn't seem as strict as I thought," I muttered.

I thought I was talking to myself, but Amanda looked towards me. She must have imagined I was speaking to her.

"This school is extremely lenient isn't it?"

Despite all the restrictions, like being forced to live in the dorms, being forbidden to leave the campus & being prohibited from contacting anyone on the outside, no one here seemed to have any complaints, nobody even seemed sad, like they were not gonna see their family or anything outside of this campus for 3 whole years.

Well, who am I to say this, we were practically going to live the life every hard-working person out there ever wanted to live.

We were getting a huge amount of money every month without any work. No restrictions on spending, like it, was paradise, something out of a dream.

Of course, the Advanced Nurturing High School's most impressive statistics was its near 100 percent placement rate for advancing into higher education or entering the workforce.

This government-sponsored school's thorough guidance of its students hoped to ensure a better future. In fact, the school heavily advertised this. Many of its alumni went on to achieve fame. Typically, no matter how famous or impressive a school might be, the areas of specialization are limited. For example, one school might specialize in sports or in music. Another might focus on something related to computers. However, at this school, any student could hope to succeed, regardless of their field.

Only this school had that kind of name & brand value. I had assumed that the atmosphere would be strict, but the majority of students looked like typical 17-year-old kids.

No, that wasn't quite right. After all, we had been capable enough to pass the entrance exam. If we could reach graduation day peacefully, without any incident, then we would have achieved our goal…

Was such a thing really possible?

"This is almost too much preferential treatment. It's frightening."

As Amanda spoke, I realized I felt the same way. We hardly knew anything about this school. It was as if a veil of mystery covered everything. Because a school like this could make any wishes a reality, I had a feeling something was not right & it all seemed too good to be true.

-------------------------

After the teacher left, the students began to chat loudly among themselves; they were planning to visit the new stores on the campus.

It's a basic human tendency that, when you have more than enough money, you want to spend, your spending habit increases. And the same situation was going on with these youngsters. Now they had more than enough to spend.

Many students left the classroom & went towards the gymnasium & with that flow, I also found myself in a freaking big place that was bustling with students of the same year as me.

I recognized some of them but most of them were from other classes.

The entrance ceremony was the same as any other school. Some important people offered words of thanks & the ceremony concluded without any incident.
