It has been a couple of days since the party and we seem to be doing well for ourselves. I have been doing some quests such as clearing out some wild animals from out of the city walls, and also dealing with some thieves.
So far we are doing pretty well for a beginning adventurers group. I hope one day Lara will join us. But for now, I think Arla and I have this covered at the moment until she gets fully trained by Yua back at home.
"Hey Arla how much do you think we have earned so far in this past week?"
"roughly about 1,300 silver so far. Enough for us to last a good 2 to 3 weeks without pay. That is if we are responsible enough."
"I believe we are pretty responsible so I don't think we will have trouble with money as long as there are contracts that are needed doing. So far we have about 1,900 coins altogether. I would say we have enough to buy a small house even haha"
"Perhaps...But we should stay at this hotel for the moment I think. It is a good temporary setup for us as early adventurers."
"Good idea Arla."
We nod in agreement and make out way over to the Guildhall. We spend some time walking and talking a bit about nothing important.
As we make our way inside there is some chatter as usual which is good it means it is busy. Mean there are contracts needed to be done. Apearently there are no limits to what kind of contract one can do. A first time beginner can do the hardest contract but it is very risky. But allowed.
We are doing low-level ones like clearing animals out, hunting, and being contracted by guards for extra hands. From guard duty to fishing. Very simple stuff.
I walk over to the woman at the front and she stands at attention to me throwing some of her papers clumsily. She adjusts her hair and I walk up to her on the other side of the desk.
"Hey, how are you doing? Hopefully good"
"I am doing well sir, thank you for asking. Now how may I help you sir?"
"I am checking out any contracts in need of doing right now. I assume there are not many left after all this chatter often that signifies that the contracts have all been taken."
"Well usually yes, but this time it is for a different reason. There have been many Goblin raids and attacks and thievings to the point over 20 contracts have been sent in to deal with them. The guards seem to all be applying requests for assistance to deal with the growing number of them in the last few days"
"hmm, strange, I never actually seen a goblin before. This all seems very sudden for these attacks to happen."
"indeed, it could be a war chief that is the cause of these coordinated attacks."
"War chief"
"Yes, most of the time a chief is in charge of these small groups of goblins, but a war chief are warmongers who often kill other chiefs and claim the power of the tribes. Gathering strength often and causing mayhem. So far with these 20 plus contracts in relation to these attacks, I am guessing about maybe a good 6 tribes are involved."
I have seen the anime Goblin slayer before I died it was brutal but an interesting take on exterminating them. The first episode traumatized me at the time...I won't let this continue if I can help it.
I look at Arla and she nods without saying anything. I turn back to the woman and I ask about taking up a contract.
"Good, we have a few still some related to finding locations of the goblins and others related to exterminating them. So far no one wants to do these two because they are very dangerous and I suggest being well equipped."
She has a point. I have been wearing my normal clothes with a one-handed sword so I think it is time I get some armor and equipment now. I should also get Arla some armor to hope she will approve of that.
I accept a contract in searching east from Arcadia for Goblins and terminating them from a farm. They have been harassing and killing the livestock and recently and the reason for the contract harmed someone by shooting an arrow at the house. They want these menaces terminated. Will do.
I turn to Arla and hand her the contract for her to read and she proves but seems a bit worried look on her face. I bet she thinks we are ill-equipped. Which we are. But we got enough coins for some armor so.
We head out of the guild house and stop hearing someone calling out o other members of the guild. I turn over to my right to see a girl and 1 man with her. One is glad is leather armor. She is wearing a steel breastplate and small shin guards and elbow greaves. Likely made out of cheap metal from the worn-out dents in it.
"Hello, sir would you mind joining our party?
"No, Goblins are beneath me"
"Hello sir can you-"
"I don't care what you are selling..."
"But we aren't..." *Sigh*
I walk up to her and she gives a little whimper of what she has been saying before"
"Hello sir would you like to help us on our guild contract to deal with goblin sightings?" she says with no emotion in her voice. Sounds like she has been doing this for a while but has been given the same answer. No.
"Hey, Arla they're doing the same quest as us. Want to join them?"
"I am fine with whatever you want i don't care as long as we do the quest"
"Okay then we will join you guys."
"Aw-awesome! We just need to buy some supplies first. Jared lets go. We will meet you guys outside the city walls in at noon!"
She and he start walking off before I could ask her name but for some reason, I don't ask. I just didn't feel tempted to for some reason. As they walk away she does a few cheers next to him while he laughs at her. They seem close.
I turn back to Arla who is standing next to me with a smile on her face. Still calm as usual. I decide to give her a good old smile as well which si blushing with red cheeks and I decide to mess with her. I place my hand on top of her head and rub it. Causing her to stiffen a bit. I laugh at it.
"Haha"
"Ma-master..how could you do this to me" she says
"Coda I think you mean and how could I not hahaha!"
I walk past her laughing at her only to be stopped by a sudden tug and sore pain in my tail. I turn around to see Arla standing on my tail! My precious tail!
"Oops, I misstepped. Here let me fix that." she stands grind her heels on my tail.
"ow ow ow! Okay you win this one!" I pleased for her to get on my knees.
"Hehehe" she giggles
"Geese you didn't have to take on my tail like that. It was innocent."
"PErhaps, but I couldn't help it you looked so adorable squirming"
"Hmmph perhaps I need to punish a maid"
"Perhaps you should...Coda"
"I give her a little pat on her head and continue walking."
-few minutes later-
We went to the marketplace where the armor and gear we would need is likely to be sold in the well... marketplace.
We walk inside an armory section of the shopping district and immediately I see an armor design similar to the Goblin slayer. I want that so badly. I walk over to it and look at the price and it is over 20,000 silver coins....Yep to rich for me unless I steal this.
I walk over to another set of armor similar to that of the Skyrim armor set made out of steel. Interesting...Wonder why some of these are similar to what my previous life had somewhat. Though in media not in real life. Or whatever.
I look at the price for this one and it is 1,200 coins. I guess that is in my price range. Still expensive though. But it is the best one within my price ranger somewhat so sold!
"Hey, can I get a set for this one?" I ask the store clerk.
"Good choice sir, sure thing let me get you some"
He takes a moment to get some of the gear for my size while Arla searches for some armor for herself. She searches around but most of the armor is heavy and clad in steel or other metals to heavy for her to lift as a result.
"I don't think there is anything here for me...I am sorry"
"It's fine we will search else where for something for you to wear."
"No, I am fine. I also wear chainmail under my maid outfit just in case."
"You do!? For how long have you been doing this?"
"Since we have met because I was unsure of your potential danger to me. But you turned out to be nice kind, warming person to me so."
"Well that's good to hear...Anyways I guess you can wear the maid outfit with chainmail underneath it."
"Here you go sir a perfect set for your size. I made a slight modification for the tail you have. So please forgive me that there wasn't one for your race.
"Oh it's fine I am sure you tried your best. Can't account for everything."
I go to a dressing room and I place the armor pieces together slowly and meticulously in order to get everything straight. The armor doesn't have armor on the biceps sadly But I could get a shield as well.
I walk out in my armor and look in the mirror and boy do I look snazzy. I check out my muscles on my arms why flexing in my suit of armor and Arla seems to like me doing this.
"Looking good kid!" the clerk says with a chuckle.
"Thank you for the compliment."
I check out Arla and she seems to be blushing a bit from me flexing so I guess that makes sens with her."
Togeth er we walk out of the store ready to head outside the city for our contract with he other guild mates.
