Chereads / I Got Reincarnated As A Lizardman? / Chapter 25 - Rising Sun(2)

Chapter 25 - Rising Sun(2)

I don't know if I should be involved but Ugmand doesn't seem like the nicest person to be around. Just me being with Lara he went off on me though I bet he is just jealous.

I mean who wouldn't for someone like Lara. She is kind, gentle, smart, tall for one thing, and even better likes me more than Ugmand.

I look back at her, with me being a little nervous to ask someone about such a topic to someone. It is an awkward and private personal life I am about to get involved.

"Hey, Lilith right?" I ask

"Yeah, I mean yes sir?" she gets out of her daze.

"Is everything okay with you and him? He seems aggressive from what I heard"

She looks at me for a bit with a look of disappointment. Either in herself or in me but I am a stranger so likely she might be doing it to herself.

"You don't have to tell me just wondering since someone who yell that way to his or her partner might have problems. But I am no expert."

"Then, he is kind and gentle he just gets carried away haha. He got this job from me because my family owns this place."

So this guy got this job through her. Hope there wasn't any manipulation behind it. Maybe I am overthinking things, I just want to eat.

"Well maybe we can chat over breakfast? Care to join me?"

She looks at me with a smile and brings her hands up with a fist. Dropping down in celebratory manner.

"Yes! Sure thing I would lo-" before she could finish her name is called out again.

"Lilith I had it get over here now!"

"Hey, that's my daughter so shut the hell up before I throw you out! another voice responds."

She closes her eyes and sadness comes back to her again. She turns away and starts walking all sulking-like. With his arms hanging down like a pair of drying-up clothes. She must be miserable as his boyfriend maybe.

I start eating my meal and think about her situation. Maybe it is one of those guilt trip relationships where one sides relationship and the other is just after an opportunity for selfish reasons. Not be the first time I heard about it in my previous life. Ah, young romance.

I never got into relationships because I was too much of a coward but occasionally I like some girls here and there with some attractive features. I suppose Lara is mine maybe. But would I go out with her? I wanted to be her companion but maybe it can be more.

I take my fork and start eating my pancakes and eggs together in a mash mixed form. Gross in a way but charming somehow. I take a bite of it and the butter and sweetness of the syrup mix together so well with the texture of the pancakes.!

-15 minutes later-

Ugh...Pancakes always make me feel full to fast. I wish I had a bigger stomach but I am trying to stay fit to be stronger. However it doesn't mean I can't enjoy myself.

I stand up and look out the window. Seems that the sun has only gotten up just by a bit. I still got a lot of time until a lot of people start leaving their homes. Maybe I can hang out around here. Seems chill enough to lounge around.

I walk over to the fire place about 10 feet away from me where 2 chairs are are placed relatively close. Maybe to close for comfort. I see some books in a shelf maybe I read something.

I take a book and it is call "The Night Watcher". Interesting edgy title. Gonna be interesting.

As I open the book the first words already speak to me.

It tells of a story of a man whose family got killed by a gang of criminal thugs who were collecting "protection" money from the group. But one night when they didn't pay for two weeks they decided to teach the family a serious lesson. They took the father away from work when he was closing and beat him near to death in front of his own kid Jose. He was traumatized as the guards were paid off not to interfere.

That week Jose start going to different martial arts classes in order to protect his family and after 3 months of dealing with the thugs' tribute payments, he finally believes he could make them pay for that night. But he knows the thugs might pay the guards off and he doesn't want to kill either.

So he puts on a cowl and a mask shaped like the face of a demon with short horns and fanged teeth. The night his father is paying the thugs he comes out and does a sweep kick under one of the thugs legs causing him to fall and slam his head against the ground.

the second thug start backing off slightly but pulls out a switchblade. He runs erratically at his masked assailant but misses his thrust, and gets tripped into trashcans.

He turns away from the thugs and checks on his father though he doesn't speak a word gestures him to run away now. On that night, a vigilante emerged or a hero by some.

"Wow not a bad short story book about a man of justice." I say quietly. placing the book back on the shelf.

I wonder if I could become something like that. Or actually no maybe just apply to become one of the guards would be smarter. Likely the ladder choice for simpicity.

I look out and the sun is up higher up now and I bet people will be walking about now.

I get myself up and take notice outside the window it seems Lilith is crying outside? Oh boy that's gonna be a hassle. Did I not notice something while reading?

I get myself up but feel weak in the legs a bit. I might've say wrong in the chair and left my legs asleep. Whatever doesn't bother me.

I start hobbling over to the exit and emediantly start hearing what is going on.

"Dont you dare talk to my daughter like that you thug! Or so help me I will beat the ever loving shit out of you!" a man says. He has a red beard shorter stature and a small scar on his forehead.

"I will do what I want old man, and besides she should be in trouble speaking to the patrons for so god damn long! We have a business to run right?!"

While those two are yelling I hear Lilith crying behind the two. She seems to be hating the center of attention of the group's argument.

"Hey? Is everything alright?" I ask her.

She turns to me with tears in her eyes but turns away. She must've been yelled at by Ugmand. Seems he bearded man must be the father. Father protecting his daughter.

I walk a bit closer to her wanting to help her but she seems to want to be alone. Which I can respect. Plus I am a complete stranger.

I turn away and start walking but get stopped by someone. a hand tugs at my thin jacket and I stop.

I turn to see Lilith with her head down she seems to want to say something now.

I turn my body around to face her but she keeps her head down. She starts to fidget and mumble something.

"Is everything alright? Do you want to chat a bit?" I ask with careful choice in tone being gentle.

"Yes...please get me away from them both..."

She seems to want to get some distance away from this. I guess she can tag along with me while I search for Ariel.

I take her hand and take her away and start walking. She hesitates so I let go of her hand so I don't appear too forceful on her.

It is her choice after all. I wait for he but she seems to finally get the courage and follow me wiping her last amount of tears.

She continued to follow me we both make about 3 blocks away. We both wander around for a bit and people are now starting to move about the town now. Glad to see activity now.

-5 minutes later-

I have started asking questions but so far no one has answered them or given me a vague answer telling me she lives around town. Real helpful...

Lilith has been nothing but silent while following me this whole time. Maybe this awkwardness should be broken before it makes me want to die in awkwardness as well.
