Chapter 28 - Breakfast (3)

Lucifer nodded, then there was the sound of utensils dropping onto the table as from the other side of the table, Doyle Black stood up, "Father, can I attend too?"

Lucifer raised one eyebrow slightly, slowing down his chewing speed as he awaited his father's response. It seemed like his younger brother, the first mistress's only son, was still stupidly trying to replace him, was he?

Well, it's a shame his efforts would go wasted. Lucifer Black was irreplaceable.

Zagon Black didn't look up as he continued to eat, "This. . ."

Then, he was quiet again and Doyle stood there awkwardly, waiting for a response. Finally, Lucifer decided to be a "good" brother and break the silence.

"Doyle, you know the Sevil meeting is for the. . . top devils to make very confidential decisions. I'm afraid there might not be any more room. . . for you." He spoke gently, like a hum, but his words were harsh and angered Doyle.

Zagon Black coughed, wiping his lips as he looked at Lucifer and then at Doyle, "Your brother is right. Maybe next time."

Now that his father had spoken, Doyle couldn't say anything and sat down unhappily. Daphne had finished her bacon and was waiting to be fed again, and as she looked up, she noticed a sort of resemblance between Doyle's and Calindra's anger.

It is no wonder they were related. . .

Daphne tilted her head to the side slightly, able to barely see Lucifer's face behind her. This devil really had no mercy for anyone, even his half-related siblings.

Although she had an unpleasant feeling towards Lucifer's youngest sister and that other brother, she couldn't help but feel a little bad for them. Imagine having to grow up with this living devil is a brother! Well, that other guy was technically a devil too. . .

Daphne frowned. It seemed like there were different "levels" to being devilish in the devil world as well!

"What are you thinking about?" She suddenly heard a deep whisper in her ear, which almost gave her a heart attack.

"Nothing -" She replied immediately, and then added, "I'm still hungry."

Lucifer's plate was empty already and he reached out, grabbing an orange from the basket right in front of him. Daphne held his hand out and he dropped it into her palms.

She used to drink a fruit smoothie a day, and it had been a long time since she had eaten or even seen a fruit. She rested her hands onto the table, not wanting to use the knife Lucifer had used already, so she dug her nails into the skin of the orange, trying to peel it.

However, the skin was quite thick and she couldn't manage to peel it off. From behind, Lucifer watched her amusedly, resting his head onto his hand as he watched her struggle.

Finally, after seeing her try and fail several times, he reached out, taking the orange from her hands. Using one finger, from Daphne's point of view, it appeared like the devil merely tapped the top of the orange and the next second, the peel completely came off perfectly.

He then split it in half and gave one half to Daphne, who held onto it immediately. She then looked towards the other half, expecting him to give it to her as well since he had given the fruit to her. However, she watched as he took the fruit and bit into it himself.

She couldn't hide the slight disappointment as she tore the orange into pieces and ate it, the sweet juice spreading inside her mouth.

"The witches have been quite quiet recently, right?" Zagon Black noted, his golden eyes scanning the room and landing on Lucifer, who had his face scrunched together from the sour fruit.

Lucifer looked at his little girl enjoying the fruit so much and wondered how she could like a sour fruit like this. He had only eaten one bite, but his one bite was really large.

The girl had finished eating her half already when she saw the other half that was bitten handed to her. She looked at it and then back at Lucifer, who urged her to eat it.

She frowned, shaking her head slightly. She didn't want to eat what he had bitten already!

Seeing her reaction, Lucifer raised one eyebrow, which appeared threateningly in Daphne's eyes. She gulped and took the orange from him right away, looking at the piece that was left.

His sharp teeth marks were visible and she sighed. Whatever. . . It was worth it for the fruit.

She took a bite and her eyes widened in surprise immediately.

It was so sweet! Daphne ate the entire fruit in one bite right after, completely forgetting about the fact that Lucifer had eaten it a second earlier.

The devil had taken the sweeter half! It made the other half she had eaten seem sour in comparison.

Watching her enjoy the food so much, Lucifer couldn't help but frown. The orange was so nasty. How could she like it?

After speaking to Lucifer, Zagon heard no response and he frowned when he watched his son and the girl's reaction. His eldest son had always been like this since a kid, and Lucifer was most similar to him when he had been young, but it was frustrating as his father.

Instead, he turned to his oldest daughter, "Calanthe, your 18th birthday is coming up. It's a large birthday, we should plan a party for you."

Calanthe looked up from her plate, which had been empty for a long time by now. She smiled and nodded gently, "Sure, father."

From aside, Calindra frowned, pressing her lips together angrily. When it had been her birthday a while ago, she did not have a grand party! Why did her stupid sister get one?!

She clenched her fists together angrily, thinking that she was the daughter of the first mistress! She should get a grand birthday party!

Daphne had finished the orange but after not eating any fruits for so long, she was not satisfied. She turned around slightly, looking at Lucifer, trying to get his attention.

However, he was looking away at something else, and even when she called his name softly, he did not notice.

Daphne finally tugged at his sleeve gently, which caught his attention. He looked down at her tiny hand and his serious expression immediately disappeared as he looked at her with a smile, "Yes, what is it?"

Daphne stiffened slightly at his gentle tone, which was very weird to her, "Um. . . fruit."

"Which one?"

Daphne looked at the basket, "Can I have another orange?"

Lucifer nodded but did not move. She looked at him confusedly and he raised his chin up a little slightly, "You can get it yourself."

Daphne had originally been scared that the devil would be unhappy if she grabbed it herself, which was why she asked. Hearing this, she took one right away and held it up to him, who peeled the orange within one second.

Daphne took a bite, frowning slightly as this orange wasn't as sweet as the half Lucifer had given her earlier.

From the dining table, Lucifer's four brothers watched this unusual interaction, all with different expressions on their faces. Who was this girl for their brother to treat so. . . nicely?

Looking at her, it was easy to see that she was a fairy. The blonde hair and blue eyes all resembled a fairy. But she was the most attractive fairy they had ever seen.

For some reason, it was hard, practically impossible, to keep your eyes off of her. It was like there was a halo surrounding her, illuminating her entire figure.

Of course, the first to notice the blazing glares was Lucifer, who was very displeased about it. He frowned, tapping Daphne on the arm as he made the move to stand up.

The sudden movement caused Daphne to jump up immediately and Lucifer also stood up, saying simply, "We're done eating."

Daphne wondered why they were the first to leave, but before she could question anything or express her unhappiness, Lucifer had grabbed onto her wrist and pulled her out of the dining room under everyone's gaze.
