Chapter 14 - Chapter Fourteen

Graceona

I looked at Charmaine, who sat in the chair beside me. I had got a bed an hour ago. Leaning back, I sighed. "I can't believe I let you talk me into this. I have children at home and a missing husband. Tell me again why I let you talk me into staying in this place?"

Charmaine looked at me with a smile. "You'll be fine. Stop worrying. Leonard won't go crazy on you if you stay here. If you behave, he won't have to know about earlier. Nicolae and I agreed we wouldn't say anything if you were a good girl."

"I'm not a child, Charmaine."

The nurse walked into the room with a tray of food, rolling the cart by my bedside. "Do you need anything else?"

I shook my head. "No, thank you." The nurse rolled her eyes, walking out of the room. "Whatever," I mumbled at the girl's attitude, rolling my eyes, looking to Charmaine, who seemed oblivious to the encounter. Instead, her focus was on the now uncovered meal of green beans, mashed potatoes, and a soggy roll. The food looked anything but editable. If I had a dog, I would refuse to feed it this lifeless meal. I pinched the bridge of my nose, knowing that Charmaine would expect me to eat this. With that thought, my stomach cringed as I could feel the vomit coming to my mouth. I moaned.

"Go on, Grace, eat your food." She looked at me as I looked at her.

"Not even in this state am I going to eat whatever that is. Not a chance, Charmaine."

"Come on, girl, eat it. It looks delicious."

"If you want it, you eat it. I'm not touching that."

"Eat it, Graceona. I'm here now. No need for you to worry about me. If I have to eat it, you're eating it as well." Came a familiar voice from the doorway, a voice that I would know in a crowded room, my Leonard. I looked to see him. Any source of a smile wiped from my lips at his company.

"What's she doing here? Has she come to finish us, as if kidnapping and assault aren't enough? She had to come and drill us down further?" I glared at Natasha, who sighed, looking down at the ground.

"That's enough, Graceona. Natasha, here, saved my life."

"Oh? You know your life wouldn't have needed saving if that witch would have stayed gone. Did you forget that?"

Leonard glared at me. "I'm too tired for this. We'll talk later. Come on, Natasha. I'm not dealing with this right now. Darin will be here in a few minutes."

I watched Leonard walk out of the room, with Natasha following along behind him.

Leonard

I followed the nurse to my room. Upon arrival, they spread a hospital gown on the bed. I walked over to the bed excusing myself to change clothes, once finished. I lay on the bed, pinching the bridge of my nose. "See, Leonard. I told you I wouldn't be accepted. Why not just let me go back where I belong?"

I glared at her with a sigh. "No." She sighed, sitting down in the chair beside the bed.

"Grace will come around. She was frustrated. Let her cool off." I lay my head on the pillow, looking at the blank television on the wall.

"You want to watch something?" the young girl asked.

"No, I'm fine. You go ahead."

The room became silent as neither of us said a word, as the clicking of the door brought my attention to the visitor. A young nurse with long blond hair came in and set up the machines. "Can I get you anything, something for the pain?"

I looked at her. Before I could answer, Natasha answered for me. "An MRI. He's had some hard hits to his head, maybe some scans as well. He may have a few broken bones. He suffered from a car crash earlier."

The young nurse looked at me, nodding her head. "Right, of course. I'll order those for you. I'll bring you up some pain pills." The young woman walked out of the room.

I sighed. "Why did you tell her all of that?"

"You're here for help, aren't you? You can't get the help you need if you don't tell them what hurts."

"An MRI, thought? My head is fine."

"You changed my mind once, dude. I draw the line on someone's safety, so suck it up. You'll be thanking me later, with the needles and the device. You're getting the help you need. I'm standing my ground on this one."

"Fine." I sighed.

Moments later, a young nurse walked into the room. Her look showed that she would rather be anywhere than where she was right now. She wheeled over a cart by my bed. "Anything else?"

I looked at her. "No."

Rolling her eyes, she popped the gum in her mouth. "Whatever."

"You know what? I would like something else. I want to be treated like somebody. Do you treat all your patience like this? I donate my hard-earned money generously to this hospital, but if you keep acting like this during my stay, you won't have a job anymore." The woman looked at me. "You don't want to be here, big deal. Do you think I relish the idea of being here? Think again, because I don't. Facts if you hate it here, quit, you won't make me mad, you staying here, will be what makes me angry, you can leave now, let the door hit you on the way out."

The young nurse's attitude changed as she walked out of the room. I sighed in frustration.

"Remind me not to tick you off."

I looked at Natasha, who grinned. "Yo, she had it coming, though. I'm not gonna lie."

She sat back in her seat as the door opened and Charmaine stepped inside. She looked at Natasha, then at me.

"Whatever it is, Charmaine, I'm not in the mood."

"Wow, what made you tick, dude? I came in here to check on you." The young girl looked at the ground.

"I'm sorry. I figured Graceona sent you in here to talk about Natasha."

"Dude, no. You know I want more evidence before I put my input into your decisions. I was curious about what you told Grace about Natasha saving your life. What happened to you after you left the states a few days ago?"

I looked at her as I explained the events that had happened. The girl listened to every word. I sighed once the story was done. "That's why I can't let her go back to Jarred. She's putting it all on the line for me. I will not let Graceona have her way in this."

Charmaine looked at me with a smile. "I'm sure Grace will be more accepting. We've all had a rough few days. You try to rest. I'll be here tomorrow. Visiting hours are over. Goodnight, you two."

The young girl showed herself out.
