Chapter 44 - Chapter 41

"Behind you." Kanao said as she cut a demons head off. Seikichi, cleaved a demon in half and then cut both parts of its head off before ducking and turning around and decapitating the demon behind him.

They've been away from the Butterfly mansion and the DSC HQ for 2 months going on three as they searched for Kyosho on their own.

A while back they sent a message to them telling them they already knew about Kyoshi and that they'd be going to look for him on their own.

They didn't know if they received it or not, but that wasn't their main focus. Now you may be wondering why Kanao would be doing all of these even though she had no connection to Kyoshi at all.

Well, it wasn't for him at all. She went because she knew once Seikichi left she might end up reverting back to her old ways and truthfully she liked her new self.

Over the time they've been out, they used their crows to go places with demon-like activities happening around them. They just cleared a forest from a horde of them and like clockwork, their crows came back with another place to visit.

The crow told them about a destroyer forest in the west that seemed like a large scale fight took place. There was a lot of dry blood everywhere and trees were completely destroyed.

"The demon must've been strong to cause that type of damage. And the demon slayer fighting it must've been powerful too." Seikichi said as he sheathed his sword.

"You ready?" He asked and Kanao nodded as the two of them ran off.

On their way there they passed a few places that looked like sheds or some type of outposts, but didn't stop. Although that was the case, the winds were picking up and the clouds were getting dark.

"Hey, let's set up camp till the storm passes." Kanao said as the winds were basically howling at this point.

The clouds were just about black and there was slight booming coming from afar. Seikichi nodded and took off his backpack as he started pulling out some cloth from it.

Kanao took off her bag and pulled out some flexible rods that'd be used to tie the cloth around the rods.

They didn't have enough room in their bags to pack futons and blankets and there was only enough for one tent, but nothing weird happened as they both had common courtesy and proper etiquette.

Quickly they set the tent up and out their stuff inside. The tent was made with red cloth and silver rods which supported it. They used nails and banged them into the ground to keep the rods up and it usually worked as it did now.

They finished just in time to get away from the storm that started as heavy rain poured down and thunder could be heard booming away in the background.

"I don't get why there's a storm in the middle of June." Seikichi said.

"We're in the Kanto region so the weather is pretty random." Kanao explained as she peeked outside the tents walls.

"I guess. But a storm this big? We probably should've gotten more supplies."

"It's fine. We'll just wait till the storm passes over, go check out the forest and head to a village. Hopefully they could have some merchants there and if not then we'll have to work with what we got."

Saying this, Kanao sat down in the tent and showed her usual calm smile. Seikichi sighed as he hugged his knees and rested his head on them.

A storm of this scale indicated that there was a huge typhoon and they were getting the lesser effects of it. As the cloth ruffled, Seikichi couldn't help but frown slightly.

What'll they do if the ground gets to soft and the tent fell down? Or if the typhoon came towards them? He could feel the vibrations from the thunder striking and it got him overthinking.

Kanao started patting Seikichi's head as she saw him frowning. She wasn't good in these types of situations so she did whatever her body decided on and once her hand twitched she let it move towards his head.

"You're hair's really damaged." She said.

As usual her tone was really calm and her voice was soft. Before she met Seikichi she still had that feeling and air around her.

The quiet and serene feeling you could feel from naturally being around her. He thought it had something to do with her smile. It was small, but gave off a very sincere type of feeling when he saw it.

Now that she's communicating with him more, he knew she very caring and extremely poised.

She removed her hand from his head as she opened her mouth to speak before being cut off by Seikichi.

"Hey Kanao, why'd you become a demon slayer?" Seikichi asked.

It was a question he asked in his head, but let slip from his mouth.

Kanao slightly sighed as she looked at her hair clip which she took out to let her hair down.

"When I was a kid, I came from a really poor area. There were broken down houses, trash littered the streets, a lot of violence and a lot of illegal things happened around there.

My family had 13 people including myself, my 10 siblings and my parents. Everyday one or all of us would be used to take out their frustration.

Always being beaten, thrown out, starved and abandoned on some random place in the slums.

One day, I found out two of my brothers were dead from the evening beatings and afterwards I just gave up and waited till it was my turn to be like them.

At some point they sold me off. Some man came and tied me up and took me around places, probably somewhere to be sold. That was when I met Shinobu and Kanae.

They adopted me and I grew up at the Butterfly Mansion. At some point Aoi and Kiyo the helper at the mansion were brought in and seeing how traumatized they were from demons made me want to fight them.

I guess I saw myself as some big sister to them or maybe I just didn't want them to end up like I did. I still don't know, but I wanted to kill all demons.

Although that dream might seem silly I actually believe it and still want to do it. I trained and took final selection and then I started killing demons as a Demon Slayer."

Although most would breakdown having to think back to a time like that where you were completely and utterly dehumanized, Kanao was strong willed.

Times where different, she was different, and so is her situation. She told the story of her past with her natural smile and laughed as well.

Most would think she's smiling and laughing to hide her pain, but Kyoshi had the ability to feel emotions whenever he used Third World Viewing and at the moment all he could feel was acceptance and some happiness.

Maybe from the closure she got after opening up more? Who knows, all she knew was that the past wasn't dragging her down. Not physically or mentally.

After a moment of silence her smile got bigger as she turned to him.

"So what was your childhood like?" She asked.

She along with the entire DSC knew about why he became a demon slayer. His whole village was destroyed along with his family.

Apparently everyone was supposed to be dead, but obviously that statement wasn't true although no one other than the Hashira, Seikichi, Yui, and Kanao.

"My childhood? It was nice. Running around the village, messing with mr. Kisaragi and having fun with Kyoshi were amazing.

The times both of our families gathered together and had dinner parties. Those moments had to have been the best moments of my life." He said as he showed a faint smile.

"How about I take you there sometime later? The place was rebuilt although I can't say by who, but it'll be fun."

Seeing his smile and enthusiasm reminded her of how a kid would constantly ask their parents to by them things from shops and stalls in villages and cities.

"Sure." She replied with a nod.

He nodded towards her and they entered into silence as the sound of rain and thunder was the only thing heard. Kanao leaned to the left and her head rested on Seikichi's arm and they didn't move.

"There's really nothing to do, huh?" Seikichi asked as he scotched over and leaned his head on her's.
