Ana paused, then sat back while thinking. "A clan is like an organization made up solely of families. It's very bloodline-focused, and every clan member has to be related."
Xasha titled his head. "Isn't that just a sect?"
"No. A clan differs from a sect in its acceptance practice. A sect is bloodline based, but it will accept outside individuals. Either through marriage or adoption. A sect usually sets some sort of evaluation and once you pass, one affiliated family, or the other, will accept you. Sometimes, talented people get multiple offers from several families and must choose. A clan, however, only accepts families and smaller clans, no individuals. For a family or clan to join an existing clan, they must send representatives to pass prearranged trials. If they pass, everyone is invited into the clan. Young, old, sick, and lame."
"I see." Xasha sat back, nodding. "What about guilds?" He suddenly asked.
