Chereads / Autumn Leaves and Blooming Petals / Chapter 41 - Chapter 40

Chapter 41 - Chapter 40

Yao Wang's footsteps were light, his soft humming just as light. The two had been picking lavender flowers for teas. Yao Wang hadn't farmed much in his human life, instead he mostly picked wheat and other fruits and veggies that he would then eat. However, farming a entire field. It would obviously be more difficult than the other ad thought.

Yet Yao Wang accepted such a challenge, picking handfuls of flowers individually. He made sure they were all healthy before picking them, as well as fully in bloom so that they were perfect. Sure, his godly powers did help slightly. The hand holding the flowering buds glowed blue, making sure they didn't die before he could put them in water. His head tilted up to see XingYing, holding a small bouquet of flowers himself. Yao Wang softly smiled before continuing, walking down the lines of brown dirt that separated each isle of purple colors.

As Yao Wang went to grab a long lavender stalk, he saw a small brick, glowing a dim white. It was a brick, seemingly from a building. Fertile dirt covered most of the sharp edges, the white light shining through in multiple places. Yao Wang reached down, adjusting his hanfu. It got slightly brown at the tips from him walking in the soil. Though Yao Wang reached down, not caring too much about his blue hanfu, he grabbed the brick. It was shockingly bright, the color glowing a perfect white through the cracks in the solid brick. "XingYing!" Yao Wang yelled the ghost's name, seemingly appearing right behind him. "Yes?" XingYing asked, Yao Wang getting slightly spooked from the ghost's sudden appearance. He didn't point it out, getting straight to the point.

"Look." He showed off the rectangular piece of concrete to XingYing, who studied it closely. Both the god and the ghost looked down at the piece of rock, studying it in different ways. After a while, XingYing shrugged. "Okay.. so what should we do with it?" XingYing asked carefully, reaching to steadily glide his finger over the brick's rocky surface. Yao Wang was curious as to where the glowing brick came from, but XingYing seemed calm when it came to the brick that was placed in his field. "Uh.. I don't know.." Yao Wang shrugged. Lightly he bounced the brick into the air, the light piece of rock easily falling back down to his hand. "Should we keep it?" XingYing asked.

Yao Wang looked down at the dim glowing brick, his other hand still holding the blooming flowers. "Let's keep it inside. But in the kitchen." Yao Wang stated, somewhat hesitant about the brick. He was one hundred percent curious about the glowing brick, however he was also hesitant. After all, he didn't want the brick to explode and hurt either one of them. Even if they were gods and ghosts.

XingYing nodded, before pointed to Yao Wang's other hand that was glowing red. "Are you sure your aura can deal with all that power? Your not even using it to protect things." XingYing asked worriedly, lifting up Yao Wang's hand to place it in his. Yao Wang smiled. "Really? I am a Martial God. I'm with Heaven's Deities, and you think I am not strong enough to hold flowers for a short period of time? I am the Flower God, XingYing." Yao Wang pointed out, placing the flowers in his hand. They still shone a bright blue, similar to the color of Yao Wang's hanfu. XingYing holds them in his hands. "Careful." Yao Wang states, looking into XingYing's dark red eyes. His hair brightly swayed in the soft wind as he held the buds. "I'm sorry, my prince. May I say, you are very powerful-" Yao Wang punched him, rolling his eyes. "Enough, just put the flowers in the vases please." XingYing placed his hand over his eyes.

"Yes Sir!"

Yao Wang laid on the bed, his eyes shut and his legs crossed. The window slightly opened, with air softly floating through the air. Yao Wang sighted, his blue hanfu fluttering slightly in the wind. XingYing walked into the small bedroom, a black and red dao shaking with his steps. Yao Wang's eyes slightly opened at the other's footsteps, smiling lightly as he saw XingYing, holding a small cup of tea. "You picked a lot." XingYing stated, placing the small cup of tea on the bed-side table. "As did you." Yao Wang complimented, looking over at the table. XIngYing looked over. "Are you meditating?" XingYing asked, as the sizzling tea steamed behind him. Yao Wang sat up, grabbing the cup of tea and placing it on his lips. He took a soft sip from his cup, humming.

He allowed the warm liquid to slide down his throat. "I can't meditate when there are demon auras nearby." Yao Wang explained, taking another sip. XIngYing's eyebrows furrowed for a minute, before he hummed in understanding. "Okay. Well, it is late. Shall we go to sleep and wake before morning?" XingYing asked, sitting down to lay back beside Yao Wang on the bed. Yao Wang subtly drinks the tea, before smiling. "Well, I guess we should sleep." Yao Wang began to lay back down, his eyes shutting. XingYing watched him for a moment before snickering. Yao Wang's eyes opened again, looking over at XingYing.

"Sorry, just.. Everytime I watch you I crack up." XingYing smiled. Yao Wang stared at him quietly, not knowing what he meant. "You watch me while I sleep?" Yao Wang asked with a weird expression. XingYIng's eyes went wide before he shook his head. "No. I meant I watch you before you go to sleep. And you always look like you're dead. Is that a god thing, or a Yao Wang thing?" XingYing asked with a smile on his face.

Yao Wang turned to sleep, facing away from XingYing. The ghost sighed, laying down. He could see in his peripheral a red and black sleeve, XingyIng's gloved hand hugging Yao Wang's waist. Yao Wang couldn't help but smile for a moment before shutting up. Silence filled the room as both the ghost and god falls asleep. For what seemed like less than a moment there was silent, before a loud beeping sound came through the doorway.

Yao Wang quickly woke up, in a brief moment he was standing, his entire look turning godly as his hair turning darker. His eyes; blue. His blue hanfu with blue pants underneath turned into a stunning blue and white with icy colors. His sleeves as long as curtains. A carved dao hanging at his side. He unsheathed the Chinese dao, pointing it at the door. He looked to the bed, seeing a just as alert XingYing. He didn't hold his dao, however, instead his eyes were a bright red, glaring at the door. His loose hair was tied into a slack ponytail. The ghost turned to look at him, his black hair as dark as shadows. His red lips as if he drank blood, his eyes a deep as the Red Sea.

"A flame that burns twice as bright burns for half as long." The god warned. Hsien Lian nodded, lowering his blade and lifting his hand into the air. "Xui!" He called, a blue transparent rope like figure flew from his wrist, shining up the small room. "Scan for anything aggressive in the vicinity?" The God of the Flowers asked, the rope-like spirit began tracing the entire house, starting at the window sill and going through the wall to mark the house. When it came back, it simply hid back in Hsien Lian's sleeve, telling everything he needed to know. "There is nothing dangerous about making that sound." Hsien Lian stated, nodding towards XingYing, who gave him a look. "It obviously wanted to wake us up. Let's go." XingYing stated, beginning to walk out the door. As he did, he saw a red light, not coming from the ghost. Instead it originated from the small kitchen.

Hsien Lian walked into the kitchen, his flat shoes creating no sound as he walked. The beeping was loud, echoing slightly through the small area. Hsien Lian hissed at the sound, however he ignored it as he walked into the lit kitchen. The bright red light originating from the brick that was at first glowing white, now red. The loud, repetitive beeping also came from the solid brick sitting on the counter. Hsien Lian watched it, not knowing what to do. "Don't touch it." XingYing stated from behind him, grabbing the brick with his gloved hand. As soon as he grabbed it the brick seemed to die, it's glow stopping as well as it's bright light.

XingYing held onto the brick, placing his black smog covered hand over top of it, capturing the brick. "Let's take it outside." XingYing stated, before beginning to walk towards the door. Hsien Lian ran after him, making sure he was catching up. He watched as XingYing seemed to unlock the door with his mind, the wooden door swinging open easily. Hsien Lian walked outside with the ghost, watching as he tossed the brick into the air, ready for it to fall as the ghost got ready to launch it into the forest.

But it didn't even fall.

Istead, as the brick was tossed into the air, it stilled, floating while creating a circle parallel to the ground. XingYing, out of shock, froze, the black glow from his hand faultered. The brick began to lean towards the forest, as if it was pushed by something. Or it was moving on purpose. Hsien Lian pulled XingYing back, pointed to the brick floating high into the air. "It wants us to follow it."
