Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Odile's Beginning

Deep in the forest lay a tower hidden from all except to who resides inside the enchanted building. It's height could reach the stars— an exaggeration that story tellers claim to their children— as it was as tall as a castle's high tower and built to look like one as well with dozens of stairs outside the architecture that bridged the top and ends, some even twirls around the building or starts and ends on the middle of the tower. It was quite confusing, but what more could be expected when the tower itself is enchanted.

For it is the building children dreamed to see, royal monarchy wished to visit and lower servants could only murmur to themselves.

The Master's Tower. The very tower of Legendary Witchcraft.

The Tower itself sat tall near a cliff that connected the ocean and earth with one big leap of a cliff. The main door hidden and where it faces was unknown— does it face the wide secrecy of the ocean? or the high and mighty pride of the mountains? No one could ever know, well maybe one could.

Not far from the tower, the sides of the mountains covered it's territory with plump bushes, it shook and crunched from being moved until it opened to reveal a young girl of 6.

Odile Schwann jumped out of the bush with her freckled undertone cheeks; flushed hot and red, resembling a baby's blush. Her frizzy hair replicated the plump figure of the bush— brown chocolate locks resembling curled and tangled yarn. Untamable and difficult to uncoil.

She just came out from her journey of recovering some herbs her Master called her to get, to prove her adventure— a woven basket filled with those herbs are tucked and hanging on her thin arms that day by day get more healthy and her skin no longer deathly pale.

Turning to any of the doors present on the tower— as there were dozens or even hundreds placed on every crevice— she chose the wooden arch that fit her small size with a brass knob. Knocking a special knock, it opened and she ran inside calling her Master.

"Master Eric! Master Eric!" the 6-year old excitedly called as she ran up the stairs, trying her best not to trip on the stairs as the Tower always had the habit of being mischievous and make one or two steps disappear.

Fortunately, the Tower was in no mischief today— seeing that the little girl it adored was truly excited, even it was curious as to what was going on with the child.

"Master Eric!" Odile barged in the highest room where she knows her Master resides. She opened the door without a care for the loud noise it made despite the echoing thud clear for the whole tower to hear.

Her Master has to tell off the little Odile once more about opening doors with care— the Tower was starting to gain that habit and would occasionally open some of the doors with a loud thud just to surprise the other mages at the tower. It was starting to hinder the concentration of mages and cause certain explosions on each room.

However, seeing the bright smile of Odile, the Master thought that he could tell her off later. She was just too adorable.

"Odile? What ever is the matter?" Master Eric asked, watching as little Odile placed the woven basket on top of a messy table— the table filled with opened and closed books, vials and potions and even live ingredients encased on jars.

Not too far near the open window, is Master Eric's cauldron which held the brewing vegetable stew they were about to eat for dinner. Master always did make the most awful stews, maybe Odile could work with the mages and sell it off someday as a concoction— more like poison.

But she would get to that later, she has a more interesting story to tell.

Odile turned her eyes towards her master; bright orbs that resembled the color of smooth glacier ice mixed with the deep blue sea. She gazed at her Master with such excitement that it seemed more white and light.

"Master! Did you saw— I mean, while I was picking up the herbs you told me to get— I saw," Little Odile jumped and hopped, her robes moving along with her as if they were sharing the happiness their owner held.

"You saw...?" The Master drawls when Odile started blabbering in rapid pace that he couldn't understand anymore— The Master could have sworn he heard Odile being lost, a friendship with a rabbit, fighting a mantis for one of the herbs and there seems to be something about a fox paying for rent somewhere in her rambles.

"—and then it happened!" Odile gushed, her Master staring quite lost.

"...what happened?" Odile turned, gaping as if it was unbelievable for her Master not to know what happened. The sight of his student's crystal disbelief made some sweat trickle down his head.

Odile decided to shake her head, going back to her reverie of excitement. "Master Eric, I saw the Wisps of Feyt!"

"Oh, did you now?" Odile vigorously nodded, her yarn of curls getting even more knotted. Some draping down in front of her face but Odile just nudged them to the side, too elated to bother herself over a hopeless case of fixing her hair.

That was the story the 6 year old Odile was trying to point. On her way to get the herbs, she managed to get lost in some way and met a family of fluffy rabbits on her way. They joined her on picking up herbs— the rabbits hopped behind her and ate some of the herbs but Odile didn't mind— On one of her herbs laid a mantis, unaware of the insect made Odile prick her hands at the green's self-defense, she turned for the rabbits to help her but they ignored Odile's predicament and munched on the patches nearby.

Odile fought for her life at that time, it will always be her very first monster encounter. The mantis was as big as her hand!

"Well," The Master spoke up, unaware of Odile's reminiscent of today's adventure. An Exaggerated adventure yet amusing somewhat. "Did you know that anyone that has seen the Wisps of Feyts are said to be blessed in life? They said those who has seen Wisps of Feyt have great destinies ahead." The Master bent to match the 6 year-old's height.

Looking up close, the Master is a looker— not quite on an Adonis level, but his appearance is above average compared to others, well the only people Odile can compare him to was the other Mages in the Tower and truly none of them could compare.

Her Master, Eric Petrovich may have his dirty blond hair a bit messy and long but with it being so silky straight— a high contrast to Odile's curls— it looked quite appealing on him with a few strands framing the sides of his face as it parted in the middle, tied on a loose low ponytail.

His skin medium tan due to his constant leave to travel but no traces of any blemish present on his skin, the only flaw she saw couldn't even be considered a flaw as it was a simple dot of a mole under his left eye.

Odile and the other witches think that, that imperfection of his deemed him more appealing to the eye.

It looked amazing on his warm hazel eyes that reminded Odile of nutshells; square rimmed glasses placed on the bridge of his pointed nose that distracts women to place their gaze on his flushed cupid lips— women get jealous from the sight of it. How he carried his robes made him present himself like a delicate greek goddess, a hand bent on his sides to support some of his robes not to fall off— not like it would— although it might happen, manifestation is common to witches; who wouldn't want a glimpse?

Like the naive child she was, Odile believed the man. Letting out big gasp, going as far as pushing her cheeks up. "Really?!"

The Master nodded, definitely serious. "Really-really."

"Now," Without waiting for anything else, the Master turned to his cauldron— sending a patient smile towards Odile. "Shall we eat?"

Odile blanched, for sure the little girl saw the room to her Master's office opened with the help of the Tower. It urged her to run away and never return.

One of the things Odile and the mages knew was that no God actually made someone perfect. He is always fair in distribution.

As the very flaw that destroyed her Master's perfection was his inability to create anything delicious. He isn't capable of making any food at all.

Odile still couldn't process how drying some of the fruits outside as a snack came back as burnt like coal. It tasted like one too.
