Chapter 1 - Introduction

Beep. Beep. Beep.

"Where are his parents?"

"They said they´d be here until tomorrow..."

"Jesus, I can´t believe people like that exist"

"I know right? To think they would be so indifferent of their own child... And at a time like this... It´s horrible"

"... Look if the database has the number of other relatives, call anyone who can come"

"Yes, doctor"

The nurse rushed out of the room.

The doctor looked at me with sad eyes. His hand placed a book beside me.

"I´m sorry kid... This is all I can do for you..."

He also left after that.

... Yhea well... I expected that much of them...

I wanted to say that out loud but I didn´t have the strength to move my mouth.

So this is it, huh... The end of the road... The final stop...

With the little force I had, I opened my eyes.

White.

That was all I could see.

It´s been 2 years since I´ve seen this color every day... And I was visited 4 or 5 times by my parents in those years...

Motherfuckers...

Beep-Beep. Beep-Beep.

I was getting sleepy.

This feeling has assaulted me ever since I was told I had cancer, though now it´s way scarier than in previous times.

I guess lawyers never have time for anything... Not even to see their son die...

Tears began to slide down my sick and pale face.

I mean, how could they? They must be too busy dealing with crime and praising my brothers.

I was the youngest of 4.

My family is what you´d call a family of geniuses.

All of them were brilliant in their own manner.

Some were good fighters, others were amazing creators, and then there was my oldest brother.

That man will become the next president.

God, how dumb can a human be? Of course, they would never bother with a bug like me!

Among that family was me.

An ordinary person.

Never the last place, but also never the first.

I wasn´t weak, but I would never be the champion.

Not the dumbest, but definitely not a genius.

Common.

That was me.

I don´t know if it was heaven or genetics.

But whoever made me like this is a torturer.

A complete monster that enjoys when people suffer.

Ahh... Just let this end already... I´ll just die as I lived...

Lonely.

Thud.

Something fell.

A letter. Many letters.

Ah... Right... They were there...

When I was healthy and attended high school, I managed to get along with a bunch of people.

In all honesty, I don´t remember their names or faces... I can´t even tell how and when we met.

But I do remember they were nice people.

Nice enough to come and say "Hi" at least once.

I don´t blame them for not coming anymore... Who would do that when my body is just a fragile pile of fleshy bones?

Their faces changed every time they saw me.

They all seemed agitated at first, but then they would look more comfortable.

Until cancer did its job and began to consume my body.

Their faces would look more and more desperate with each visit.

Sadder.

More painful.

More sorry.

The sorrow of my heart intensified.

If I had the strength, I would have cried with all the power of my lungs.

Quite bad I can´t do that now.

I should have thanked them more... I should have spoken more often with them... I should have laughed with them more...

Beep... Beep...

My mind felt like a flying feather.

My consciousness stumbled more and more with each passing second.

Especially that girl... She came so many times to give me a good book...

I once met a girl in the school library. She was quiet and docile. And she liked books as much as I did.

One thing lead to another and we became something similar to friends.

I never asked, but she seemed a lot like me.

I guess that´s why we got along so quickly.

The last time she came she gave me a romantic fantasy story.

She told me it was her favorite and after reading it, it also became mine.

I can´t remember much of what happened next, I was too tired... Too miserable...

I tried to reach the book she gave me.

My arm didn´t move even a single millimeter.

Ahh... It´s happening...

The light was fading. The sound was being silenced. My breath was slowing down.

...

In this cold and isolated room.

In this place filled with happy and painful memories.

Is in this place where I´ll die...

...

Fuck... I don´t want this...

I fell in desperation.

I don´t want to die...

The only thing I could feel was fear.

Please... God... Jesus... Mom... Dad...

It was pointless.

Anyone...

Darkness wrapped me with her cold arms.

And I stopped feeling.

"Help... me..."

Beeeeeeee...

At the age of 17.

Fausto Vargas Monterreal died due to hepatic cancer.

When the media found out that his family abandoned him, their good reputation disappeared.

The candidate for president never got the job.

The others lost all their connections and influence in the world of business.

No one liked coldhearted traitors.

Nowadays they struggle to keep themselves floating with the little clients they have.

A funeral was celebrated in Fausto´s school by his classmates and principal.

Because of his home education, he never noticed it, but he was the top student, and one of the kindest people that the alumni perceived.

A golden plate was built to his name and placed at the entrance of the school.

He left his mark in the world.

But he´ll never know that.
