Chapter 9 - You want me to die?

Crack!

Kyra ducked in and the vase landed up cracking into pieces, instead of bursting her head.

"For God's Sake, Kevin! Listen to me, we are running out of time!" Kyra grumbled as Kevin turned around to throw something else at her.

"And listen to what? Why did you act like you were harassing me?" Kevin realized that she did actually torture him and turning around, he pointed a finger at her, "You know what? You actually harassed me, Kyra! And I will sue you for the same now!"

"What?" Kyra scoffed when he just stared at her and nodded crossing his arms.

"Oh Please! Stop acting like a damsel now!" Kyra couldn't help but comment in defense.

"If I am the damsel, what are you? An obsessed perverted bitch?" Kevin argued more to which, he even took out his phone to call someone and grumbled, "And you will pay for that today!"

"What? Seriously Kevin!" Kyra scoffed again as he looked damn interested in suing her! For hell's sake, he needed to at least listen to her once!

"Don't force me to use my powers, Kevin! You will regret it badly later!" Kyra warned and when he didn't even care, she snapped her fingers and threw his phone aside.

"What the" Kevin grumbled as his phone shattered into pieces in the air and then fell to the ground. She purposely burst it and he wanted to kill her. So badly!

"Now stop acting like a madman and listen to me very carefully! I cannot hold them any longer!" Kyra grumbled, pointing at the cameras and Kevin was not in the mood to be her guest.

"Hell with your story! AND HELL WITH YOU, KYRA!" Kevin roared and showed his middle finger before walking towards the door.

Whatever joke or prank Kyra just played on him, he didn't like it at all! He in fact was hating breathing in the same room as her. And with that seducing whatsoever act, the little esteem he had for her died in that room itself! She just murdered it with her own hands!

He tried opening the door but sighed frustratedly when he couldn't even turn the knob.

"Open it!" He demanded very loudly without turning around to look at her.

"It's related to the lost soul case! You need to hear me, Kevin!" Kyra replied, trying to keep her anger in check. The way he yelled earlier and even showed her so much respect, she just wanted to beat the pulp out of him as a return gift. But too bad, she had to wrap up her wounded ego and concentrate on things that needed real attention.

When Kevin just didn't respond and continued struggling with the door, she lost her cool!

"Fine, go file your complaint!" She yelled unlocking the door and later slumped on the couch. She was stupid to expect a normal talk with him!

Kevin sighed and opened the door, but before he could walk out, Kyra's words caught him off guard.

"We can just sit and watch those Alpha morons take over this case!!"

"What did you say?" He questioned, coming back into the room and Kyra just looked at him, angrily.

"Come sit here, if you don't wanna drag unnecessary attention." She managed to say, properly holding back herself to curse him out.

Kevin closed the door and sat right angle to Kyra, as it didn't look like she was joking. He looked at her, she stared back at him sighing loudly before explaining everything.

"Those old ducks want to transfer this case to Alpha unit! That's what I wanted you to read, to read my memories during our you know 'making out' act!" She started making fake peace signs with her fingers and continued, "But our psychometrist was so dumb that he couldn't even understand such a simple hidden code and we failed, literally failed!"

And before Kevin could interrupt, she continued, "But I knew things would completely go wrong since it involved you!" When he scoffed at that comment, she added, "Hence I acted like we were kissing, and shut down all those devices so that I could explain you growing these concerns. But, you got so busy fussing about such a simple issue and getting all angry!"

Finishing in one breath, Kyra looked at him and when he just continued to glare at her, she added, "And even now, look at your expression! You are more interested in tearing me down rather than about this ruled-out case!"

So that was the real reason behind her seducing act. Kevin thought staring at her and sighed loudly.

"How do you expect me to understand when you just came all over me and ignored to even give some clues!!" Kevin grumbled and poured himself a glass of water.

She was right about the last part, he was hell angry and didn't wish to even share the same room as her less hear her reasons. But, she should have given some hints for him to like actually understand and read her memories, so she was also at fault too! He confronted himself with that explanation.

"Dude, I pressed your hands! Like literally pressed our palms when I said 'try me'! You didn't realize that?" Kyra questioned back in surprise.

"Wait Wait! Don't tell me you were just too engrossed, you know in that whole 'kiss me' process that you didn't feel my touch!! Like you know when we were just this close!!!" Kyra mumbled, moving her hands closer and trying to recreate their closeness in that scene.

"Pffft! Ugh Ugh!" Kevin coughed out loud, hearing such an awful comment! "Are you out of your mind? Eww!" He added, placing back the glass. He later rubbed his arms feeling his goosebumps raise at her comment. Kissing her? He would rather drink poison than kiss her!!

"Fine! Whatever it is! Let's concentrate on the case!" Kyra mumbled, shoving off all her thoughts and also that whole scene. Even she was feeling disgusted to even just recall or rephrase it to him.

"Andrew for sure will fall in his senior's diplomatic words and hand over the case. So, Venessa is asking us to work secretly on this case until any official announcements!"

"You mean, against the rules?" Kevin asked and when Kyra nodded, he sighed nodding back. Of course, he wouldn't mind getting some punishments if that helped them to get a step closer to the culprit. He knew they were running out of time, and working together was probably the last option for them.

"But the bigger problem is," Kyra took a deep breath and explained, "Like if this case gets handed over, I mean if Alpha team start dealing with this, they have some trashy ideas."

When Kevin looked at her in confusion, she bent forward and added, "They want to find someone from the outcast world, show him as the culprit and wrap up this case!"

"What?" She expected the same reaction and nodded before sighing out loud.

"Are they insane? Like how can they just scapegoat?" Kevin grumbled, still shaken by that piece of news.

"They believe we will end up in trouble and tarnish KNIGHTS reputation if we reach out to the grim reapers," Kyra explained, half-heartedly.

"Even so! Like how could they just shift the whole case! What about that poor soul then?"

"They are ready to like leave such a dangerous culprit off the hook, so they obviously don't care about the girl or her soul! At least, that's what I felt when I was inside there, listening to their shitty ideas!"

"You were present in the meeting?" Kevin questioned confused and when Kyra shook her head, he sighed asking no further questions. He was sure Venessa would have taken the risk of sharing this news and he was glad that they were at least well informed before others.

"I don't care if this gets transferred or even dropped, but my major concern is the,"

"girl, I know!" Kevin finished her statement and both sighed resting back in their seats.

"I just want her to rest peacefully. She at least deserves such a simple ending!" Kyra added closing her eyes and Kevin nodded taking a long breath. They both were silent and had their own thoughts running on a mill.

"What's your plan?" Kevin asked, after thinking for a few minutes and Kyra held up her breath.

"I want to try the time travel thing!"

"You mean, the one through the trance?" Kevin asked not surprised. Out of everyone else, she chose to ask his help and he was very sure she wanted to try the joke George never meant in the first place.

Kyra nodded, pursing her lips. She had prepared a long, very long speech to convince him and she just wished he could agree with her, at least this once.

"So, you want to try that and die?" Kevin questioned back, his temper going up and Kyra just sighed out loud.

"I just want to help the girl!"

"No, Kyra! It's pretty clear to everyone we hate each other! So, no need to hide!" Kevin burst out and Kyra scratched her brow ready for one more round of fight!

"You want me to travel inside it, like a superhero grab that wendigo thing, which of course is way stronger than me! And then, die in that trance?" Kevin said in one breath and stared at her. "So, you want me to die there! Isn't it?"

"No, Kevin!"

"No, Kyra! This whole thing is not at all right! It sounds so stupid, to be honest." Kevin started again and Kyra just held her anger.

"You drag me in here, put on a bullshit act to lock those cameras, and later ask to endanger my life and try to be a hero!" He animatedly explained making her sigh again.

"Thank you, but I am not buying your story!"

She sighed out loud as he got up to walk out. He was a man who never liked taking risks, and she expected at least to hear this much crap out of him.

But would she actually convince this endangering rare human species? She was trusting her own abilities now!

But she needed to do it at all costs, at least for the girl. And that made her sigh determinately, forcing her to use her last card. A card of trampling her own self-respect!
