Prom Day
The days passed quickly in my eyes, maybe it was because of my anxiety. Normally I don't go to parties, but never to a prom! I was too excited, I wanted to know what it was like, and I hoped that this dress would be enough to wear to that party.
Livia was one of my best friends in the village. Since we were little we used to play and tell each other secrets. After my father died and I had to get a job, we drifted apart a lot. So I decided to accept right away when she called me to get ready in her house.
- The dress is really beautiful, you look magnificent... But there's something missing - Livia analyzed me, circling the chair where I was sitting.
I took advantage of this moment to take a look at that room, which was certainly different from mine. Livia lived in the village, but her family was very well off, her father and two brothers served the king. She had a single bed with a canopy around it, the room was dyed white and a light shade of pink, and everything inside (wardrobe, dresser, etc.) was also in those colors.
- I know, make-up - Livia was excited by her discovery.
-Makeup? - I grimaced.
- Yes, your face is already beautiful, with a few touch-ups you'll be just perfect.
- But I never use this stuff, so why today? - I crossed my arms. I looked like a spoiled child who doesn't want to eat, but I don't care.
- It's not every day you have a ball with a single prince around, isn't it? - She gave me a mischievous look and began rubbing my face.
Livia really thought that a prince would notice me in the midst of so many girls much prettier and richer than me. I think the hairdo she did pulled her scalp too much and she is delirious from the pain.
After a lot of hair pulling and Lívia screaming at me not to move, I was ready. Being modest, I thought I looked beautiful for the first time in years. The makeup that Livia had done enhanced my blue eyes and everything matched the magnificent dress Melanie had made.
A carriage would arrive at Livia's house at 9:30. After Livia insisted so much, her father ended up renting a carriage just to take us. I thought it was funny, Livia acting like a real princess. I laughed the whole way.
It never occurred to me that the Palace could be even more beautiful, everything was shining as always and everything was even more illuminated. I think we could see this Palace from the moon with so much light. It made my eyes hurt.
When the main door opened for me and Livia to enter, I realized that there I could be someone else. They certainly wouldn't recognize me as the girl who does everything in the kitchen. I was simply Milly.
I joined Lívia and her friends and we sat there talking.
There was a huge drawing of a circle in the Royal Ballroom. That's where people went to dance, and I looked there all the time. I saw that King Michael and Queen Stela were holding hands approaching the center of the ballroom. The king nodded and began a slow song that was very beautiful to listen to.
When that dance was almost over, I decided to get something to drink.
It didn't take 10 Steps for me to almost hit the ground, I was concentrating on the beautiful dance while another person was coming in the same direction and as I can presume, wasn't looking forward either.
- Oh crap, not again... - whispered the young man straightening his robes.
The impact with his body made me go backwards, but this time I didn't fall, I just got a little sore.
- I'm sorry, I was concentrating on... - Until then he hadn't looked at me, when he did I finally saw him. He did.
- Hello beautiful lady," he said gallantly.
I looked puzzled and pulled myself together.
- Do you throw this "Hello pretty lady" at everyone you bump into? - He laughed. And what a smile...
- Let's just say that not everyone has the honor of bumping into me, especially not twice in a row.
Twice? but wait a minute, wasn't it three times?
- I was ironic, totally ironic, ironic to the core.
- May I have a dance to apologize? Nice girl.
I rolled my eyes but took her hand and we went to the middle of the huge dance floor.
- I've seen you in the village before, haven't I? - I asked suddenly.
- You can't tell anyone about this," he sounded a bit desperate.
- What were you doing there? -I decided to torture him a little.
- Let's just say that here at the palace we don't have such lively parties, really, as we do in the village.
- Do you live here? In the Palace? - I knew that with those clothes you couldn't just be from the village.
- Now, don't you recognize the Crown Prince?
Shocked. Static. Completely paralyzed. That's how I was.
- Are you okay? You've suddenly gone white.
- I'm just a little shocked, I never would have guessed. Although it was quite clear after you left your father's room.
At this point the music ended, James (now I knew), kissed me on the cheek and led me out of the circle.
I staggered halfway to where my friends were standing. Livia even asked what had happened, and I replied that it was nothing. I was trying to process the new information. As it turned out, everyone there already knew.
After a while, one of the king's guards came to call me and took me to the throne room, I didn't understand anything until I saw James in front of his father and the king himself looking at me, smiling.
What on earth has this boy done?
- Did he send for me, Your Majesty? - I was confused, stuttering. And very nervous.
- A fine choice, son, introduce her formally," the king grinned from ear to ear.
-Good Papa, this is... my bride. -He smiled dullly in my direction.
Oh crap, what just happened?
