Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 - First Blood!

"Hello again, Zefer." Ruth said with a sinister grin as he stood before Zefer. Many first and second-year students seemed to surround Zefer. Although Zefer did gauge everyone and everything around him, he was not impressed. If anything, something inside of him was urging him to just attack without delay. He didn't know what this feeling was, but it didn't feel disturbing. More so, it felt warm.

"Ruth..." Zefer said with venom behind his words as he set his eyes back on the boy who just snickered like some kind of madman. "It's time to put you in your place, Zefer. Ever since the Rank Up Test, you have been walking around like you own the place. I'll admit, you are strong, stronger than myself." Ruth began to speak like a villain did when they gave their speech on why they were doing what they were doing.

"So, that's why I've brought many people here today. You see, it isn't just me that is tired of you, Zefer. We are all in agreeance that you need to be taught a lesson and shown your place, trash." Ruth spat at the ground in front of Zefer with disdain and hatred.

A notification appeared in front of Zefer, one that amused him greatly. It had been a while since the system gave him a Quest, and now it gave him one with some sweet rewards. Zefer didn't care if the Quest asked him to kill these people. He had already planned on it or at least killing Ruth. Still, there was a chance that the system was getting fed up with him not killing someone and just found a perfect opportunity to present a quest for such.

Zefer took a quick take of the stats of those surrounding him and saw that they all had lesser stats than him, meaning that completing the Quest should be an easy feat.

"Do you have any last words? Perhaps if you apologize and beg for forgiveness, we will spare you." Ruth chuckled sinisterly, showing that he wouldn't do that even if Zefer did prostrate before them. "Better yet, if you call that bitch Karrin here, we'll forgive you. Of course, you'll have to stay and watch the entire thing without compliet, so, what do you say, trash?" Ruth added, showing that he really couldn't be any more despicable than he already was.

Zefer placed a hand to his face, covering it up as he leaned over for a moment. He had been silent this entire time, listening to Ruth, but now he couldn't take it anymore. He was trying to keep his mask on, but perhaps there wasn't any reason to. Not when he was about to kill the idiots before him.

A peal of laughter escaped his lips before arched backward with a burst of laughter as if he had finally lost it. He looked like a crazed person, which freaked everyone out since they weren't expecting Zefer to laugh like that. Not in a situation like this where they had him surrounded. "Oh man... I can't hold it in anymore. You are just too funny, you know that? You, Maven, and Alex, all of you. It's almost like you are scared of me or something. So tell me, Ruth..." Zefer's body snapped back into a straight position as he looked at Ruth with a twisted glare of thrill, his Runic Eye shimmering.

"Are you frightened?" Zefer asked, but before he could even ask, Zefer pivoted and went straight for one of the students. He brought out his [Runic Lance], and without hesitation, he skewered the student, running him through the chest with the lance. Blood spilled everywhere, but Zefer wasn't going to give them time to figure out what was going on.

Zefer swung his lance to the side and flung the body off as if it were a slab of meat; the guts and bits of the dead student spilled all over the place as the body went ragdolling on the ground.

Zefer made haste and took hold of a student that was beside the one he just killed, grasping the face of the student and pulling him closer while skewering him with his lance. Zefer dropped the body on the ground, covered in blood from the two students he killed; he looked back towards Ruth, "Are you scared, yet?" Zefer said with a grin across his face smeared with some blood.

Many notifications appeared before Zefer, but he looked past all of them to stare upon Ruth with thrill as if something had taken over his sense of rationality. Ina knew this day would come, but truthfully, she thought he would hold out more. Nevertheless, he showed no disdain against killing, which pleased her.

"W-What are you doing!? Kill him!" Ruth exclaimed as he ordered everyone to attack Zefer since they were stunned silly. The sudden shouting seemed to pull them from their stupefied expressions and began their attack against Zefer.

Ranged attacks from multiple spells considered non-lethal soared towards Zefer, but he evaded and knocked their side with his lance. When he found an opening, Zefer tossed his lance like a javelin at one of the more problematic individuals in the back.

Fire, Water, Ice, Earth, and Wind were simple to disrupt and easy to counter, but the lighting was another story. Thankfully, only one person could use lighting spells, and he took that person out. The two people he took out earlier were those of the highest stats in the room, so he removed them.

The lance Zefer tossed not only skewered the lighting user considering the speed rivaled that of a high-speed baseball pitch but also pulled them off their feet and pinned them against the wall.

Zefer decided he would take out the ranged users first since they would be more annoying. Not everyone specialized in close combat-based magic, just like how not everyone was good at ranged combat. Zefer viewed ranged foes as more of a threat because they could reposition easily than a close combat foe. Plus, if he focused on someone engaged with him in close combat, he would be hit by a ranged attack.

Zefer used [Runic Bolt] and [Runic Barrage] to deal with multiple foes. Some tried blocking his Rune Energy with elemental walls, but they underestimated the power of his Rune Energy since the attacks pierced through the walls and hit the people on the other side.

Of course, the attacks weren't an instant kill since the firepower was diminished went it passed through the elemental walls, but they were still hurt with bruises and burn marks. Nevertheless, the attacks never stopped. Zefer deflected and evaded those trying to engage him in close combat while taking out those who specialized in range combat.

Throughout this entire thing, Ruth was standing there, becoming more and more anxious as he watched Zefer slowly kill each of the students he hired to take out Zefer. "W-What the hell!? I know he is strong, but how is this strong!? He's shrugging off the spells and blows like they are nothing!" Ruth exclaimed.

Zefer wasn't some untouchable god. He was taking his fair share of damage, considering he was outnumbered and surrounded. Regardless, he shrugged off the attacks as if they were nothing more than some kind of snowball smacking him in the face or pebbles pelting him. It was his endurance, his tenacity to withstand damage. He took the damage, but he could shrug it off like a real champ.

Eventually, the number of students became so low that none of them could even touch Zefer or at least hit him as much as they were doing before. All that was left was Ruth and his cronies since Zefer took care of all the strays. Zefer's body was littered with wounds and bruises. His clothing was seared, soaked, and in tatters, yet he stood firm.

"Now then... all that is left is you and your little group of friends, Ruth." Zefer said with a wicked grin before Ruth and his friends.

"M-Motherfucker!" Ruth shouted as he charged Zefer with his fists engulfed in flames. Ruth did his best to strike Zefer, but all of his attacks were evaded, and in the end, Zefer brushed him aside as he tripped Ruth only to chase after Ruth's friends.

Zefer killed each of Ruth's friends without wasting any time by breaking their necks, destroying their spines, or skewering them with his lance. Once he was done, all that remained was Ruth. Zefer's Rune Energy was on empty, and his health was at a quarter which was the lowest it had ever been, but he wasn't panicked since this onslaughter was nearly over.

"M-M-Monster!" Ruth screamed with fear. He started to scramble away, pushing through the blood, bones, and guts of many dead students to try and crawl away from Zefer, who continued to approach him.

"I know, but, Ruth, you created this monster..." Zefer remarked as he continued to walk after the frightened Ruth, who was too scared to even think of lobbing fireballs at Zefer. In the end, Ruth backed up into a wall, and Zefer now stood before him.

"....So, you reap what you sow, idiot." Zefer picked up Ruth by the neck; then, with all of his strength, he plunged his hands into Ruth's chest only to rip out the heart and crush it in the palm of his hand before dropping the corpse onto the ground.

Zefer took in a deep breath then released it as if he felt relieved, like he scratched an itch that needed to be scratched. However, he couldn't celebrate just yet, since an appulse caught his attention which caused him to look towards it only to find a particular individual standing there giggling cutely, "Bravo, Zefer."
