I listen to every word carefully hoping to find some kind of clue as to where she could have gone but then I hear her saying that she had to leave and it was better this way. I do not understand what would make her leave like that and how would it be better for anyone when she leaves? I thought it was a family emergency and that is why she left and now, I do not know anymore.
"Thank you, you really helped a lot"
I turn around not even looking back. I feel crushed that she felt like leaving and leaving thinking that is better that way. Why did I not tell her earlier how I felt? Maybe if she knew how I felt, maybe then she would have stayed? I walk out of the building and then I feel someone's hand on my shoulder.
"Man, it is good to see you walking around the grounds again"
I look up and realize it is Jim. I see a big grin on his face and then I say, scraping every last bit of hope together.
"Me too, man. Me too"
