Chapter 501 - Mercy's Fate

Moments later, a big fight took place as the remaining guardians of the royals came to rescue their masters but were met with a one-sided battle.

Positioned everywhere were many different snipers that supported from all angles.

All of their efforts were in vain as they encountered one difficult opponent after the next.

It was not a force that they could ever hope to defend against with how few Haki users they had available to them.

There was a severe lack of Devil Fruit users in Mercy Kingdom which caused them to be a vulnerable island.

Perhaps others were once great supporters of the kingdom but such people no longer existed or had lost their faith in their rulers.

If they had the power to resist, they did not have the willpower to stand up to fight for and defend those who were in a poor situation.

The rulers of the kingdom had been abandoned by those who could help and those who could have helped had possibly been wiped out during purges or other events that took place under the king's orders.

If someone was not wiped out for being a threat then they were caught up in some political scheme that ended badly.

It resulted in many important figures being dragged in front of the crowd of people who remained.

Off in the far edges of the Mercy Kingdom where the docks were located, ships could be seen approaching the island in very large numbers.

Each of them had unmarked flags on top of them and was packed full of armed people.

They all had a rugged and rowdy appearance that made them quite intimidating.

There were many telltale signs of them being related to shady organizations that were connected to all kinds of crime.

There was a total of ten large ships full of such people who had appeared to close in on the island.

It was like some kind of backup measures were being put in place to ensure that everything went smoothly as planned.

Since there had been no further contact, it was required even more for there to be some support in place just in case something bad did happen.

Just as they were getting closer to the island and it was starting to become clearer to many on the ships, something else started to take place.

Many large ships with metal on them appeared all around and closed in on them with great speed.

Before they could prepare themselves for battle, heavy and large cannonballs were fired toward their ships without giving any indication of there being a declaration of war.

The cannonballs came at such a speed that made it possible for them to travel a large distance and at such a speed that made the destructive power much greater.

There were several strong combatants on board their ships but that was not enough to stop their ships from being torn to shreds.

One ship after another was sunk within a short amount of time which caused anyone that could fight to have to swim to try to get close to their opponents.

What came next were many skilled snipers that did not miss their targets which resulted in many people being shot while they were in the water.

The backup for Mercy Kingdom was wiped out within a very short time as if their whole plans had been intercepted through their communications which allowed for their positions and intentions to be predicted in advance.

There was no hesitation in the actions of the attacking ships that opened fire right away and there was no room for mistakes otherwise innocents could be harmed by such a barrage.

They needed to be certain that they were firing on a dangerous group before they did so.

Most enemies that were approaching the island had been dealt with quickly while some others disappeared underneath the sea.

Whether they would be lost to the sea or would reemerge later was still unknown but they would never be able to recover from the trauma they suffered from such a big loss.

Meanwhile, back at the platform the king and the princess were being displayed in front of the large crowd that remained.

They were bent over with their arms and necks restrained as they had many people throwing rotten tomatoes towards them.
