Chapter 70 - Counterattack

After dispatching her enemies on one side, she expected them to continue to pursue her so she could guess where they would come from.

He had attacked in a star formation with several people in each group, several people using a needle whip to assassinate or capture her while mainly aiming at one part of her body.

One group aimed to restrain her left leg while another group to the right aimed for her right leg.

Those behind her to her left aimed for her left arm and the same was for her right side, behind her the final group aimed for her neck.

They worked together to completely retrain her body and be unable to escape while they send in the additional sword wielder of each group that were trying to remain unseen until they all moved at the most opportune time to kill her.

After taking out one group and the additional assassin, the other groups would either follow, retreat or try to encircle her to try again.

Instead of waiting in a narrow place where her options were limited and trapped her if both sides were blocked, she jumped towards the wall and pushed her foot against it and sent her body towards the other wall while turning to repeat the same action and then caught onto the tall buildings roof.

She pulled herself up and lay on her back while assembling the staff parts that were attached to her waist and then added the scythe blade attachments.

As she turned the dial on the staff and began to carefully inject Electro into the staff, the staff began to store the Electro within it.

Even without the use of Electro in public, other ways could be used that could disguise her ability.

One of them was a weapon that could absorb the Electro to be discharged or used later, this not only helped to create more freedom in her fighting style but also deal with those that she had only injured slightly and completely subdued them with a single Electro attack.

It also helped to set other kind of traps with her weapon should she ever lose hold of it.

Electro may not be harmful when coming in contact with the outside of her own body but to others it was deadly enough to cause temporary paralysis, unconsciousness or even death depending on the voltage used.

Alyssia listened carefully from above and was able to detect the calm breathes of the groups of people.

They made their way around towards where she would exit from where she had previously killed the lone assassin while the other assassins kept a distance.

This time they had switched to a crossbow after seeing the failure of the first attempt.

Now that the element of stealth had been ruined they no longer needed to conceal these type of weapons that would make some slight sound after releasing an arrow.

Alyssia ran across the roof while avoiding the groups gaze and jumped from roof to roof before landing close to one of the lone assassins.

As they turned around to take aim, she quickly ran towards him while spinning her staff with the reaper blades rotating along with it and passed by his body after deflecting the arrow away from her body.

The crossbow dropped to the ground which showed that he had been hit by her during the quick exchange.

Meanwhile the body that stood there remained still for a moment before revealing a large cut on his front but also his back which were done as the reaper blade went downwards in a circular spinning motion before she passed him and as she had passed by his body it moved to slash upwards.

He fell back and began to bleed out quickly, Alyssia threw the staff up into the air so that it spun and then landed with each side in between the two buildings and remained there securely.

She jumped towards the wall and kicked off it and grabbed onto the staff that was above her and pulled herself up to briefly balance on it before jumping to a more stable place to stand and picked up the staff from where it was while continuing this pattern to take the lives of the other three assassins.

The four groups of assassins continued to search but found that they had trouble locating her and they had not heard any noice from the person assigned to follow them.

They began to feel more nervous when suddenly a small sound was heard.

They recognised the noise and took it as their enemy being located so they planned to head in that direction like they had when they heard the previous shots but found nothing.

This time was different from those times, an arrow flew towards the masked man from above and pierced into his eye.

As they panicked slightly in that moment, Alyssia had already used her basic flash steps footwork to close the distance quickly.

She separated the staff into two halves and appeared within one of the groups, she spun and slashed in a circle with her arms facing outwards with one pointed forward and the other backwards before exiting their encirclement moving towards the next group as they had more time to put up their defences against her, she moved in a zig zag pattern avoiding their attacks.

As she passed by one she slashed with one reaper blade towards their throat and moved around and past their body to reach the next assassin repeating the same pattern until she finished off them.

She still had to deal with one more group after the next ones so she could not let down her guard.

As she exited the group leaving behind another three dead bodies she turned towards the group of three and deflected the path of the attacks coming at her while avoiding the attacks from the side.

She got close enough to see the panic in the eyes as they knew what was coming next…

They tried to put up their final struggle but she was far too fast and was able to easily cut their necks.

This time the two remaining attacks were ruthlessly aimed at their own companions out of desperation and narrowly missed her body as she dodged with a cold look in her eye.

Instead of getting closer, she used her thumb to trigger something and a slight ticking sound followed as she threw the two scythe blades towards the two remaining assassins.

As the approaching weapons came within their reach they tried to defend quickly but they had already sent the two chain whips in their possession towards Alyssia in their final attempt to kill her.

They did not have enough time to pull them back towards them before the blades entered one of their chest and the other on their leg during their desperate attempt to dodge.

A cold sweat went down their backs but at the same time they were relieved that the wounds to their body may or may not prove to be fatal but it wasn't enough to kill them.

They quickly made the decision to run away in opposite directions so that even if one of them were captured, the other may get away and inform the higher ups of their failure.

However a strange ticking sound began to end followed by a click.

The weapons in their bodies suddenly released a surge of white light and electrocuted their bodies making them drop to the ground bleeding out and unconscious.

It was unknown if they would be able to survive at all now that their wounds had been destroyed even more by the release of Electro deep within their bodies.

Alyssia looked at the many dead bodies around her and sighed. 'Man.. the Mink instincts are really something else. They let me be able to quickly dodge incoming attacks and take on many opponents at once but is this also an animal instinct? Is this why I do not feel so disturbed about killing now? Is it simply adaption to new environments and behaviours to survive or is it just that I just do not feel any guilt for such people?"

A predator would feel no remorse as it killed its prey or enemies as it fought over food, territory, leadership or a mate and as a Mink, she carried animal like qualities that had somewhat influenced her from deep within her bloodline or it could be the influence of her passive skill.

Whether it was the previous kills on the platform or the many assassins she had just faced, the first kill was the hardest and then afterwards it was no longer so difficult as if she had been suppressing the primal survival or killer instincts of a beast within her and they had been unleashed upon killing her first human.

She didn't like this feeling of being able to kill so easily but she just had to accept this as a permanent part of herself that would help herself adapt to this world.

She could show mercy on her enemies if she chose to but there were times that called upon a ruthless heart that would not hesitate to slay the foe before her or she would be at risk of losing her life or even losing those close to her.

Alyssia didn't ponder on these thoughts for long as she picked up her weapons from her enemies bodies and finished them off cleanly.

She looked over the other bodies and made sure that they had died before stopping before the remaining body who lay with deep cut marks on them and bleeding out.

As she was about to end his suffering and grant him a quicker death, he began to spasm suddenly and then stopped moving.

She kicked his body over and stepped back in case of any sudden surprises but saw his dead eyes and the troth coming from his mouth. "Poison capsule?"

Right after seeing that they were all dead and there were no other surprises, she began to collect their belongings that would be worth anything along with their weapons.

Upon searching the body of the man who used the poison capsule, she picked up a small token with a scorpion shaped design engraved on it. "Whip like weapons… needles as the end.. scorpion… assassins… how… original?"

Suddenly she picked up the weapon laying in the pile of things she collected and sent it outward towards a certain direction. "Get over here!"

Suddenly a person was bound by the sudden surprise attack and pulled out from the shadows.

Boo had a helpless look on his face as he appeared after being dragged out. "Do not worry, it is just me."
