Chapter 29 - Fall of crystal lake (part 8)

"That took too fucking long." Riley complains as he lays the last barricade of cabinets down around the tunnel door. Behind the barricade he lays guns and ammo in piles just in case the horde follows them. "Well time to tell the kids the news. Papa Riley is bringing, the party." Riley chuckles going up the stairs and into the lobby. "Doing such a good job holding the door guys really appreciate it." Riley says, giving his corpse pile a thumbs up. "I need to stop doing this." Riley says to himself as he gets to the roof Riley checks for movement in the kids room and finding none goes back to his favorite pastime. "23 dead fucks." Riley says smirking. He checks on the kids again. "How can they sleep through these gunshots?" Riley asks himself curiously. Riley starts shooting zombies in the building to his far right again. 30 minutes later Riley checks on the kids again and finds them moving around so he waits watching them until he sees Nancy check the board. "Can any of you shoot?" is written. "Me and Sid" she responds. "My plan is crazy and you guys may not like it. How's your zombie killing?" Riley writes. "We stayed alive in this area since the beginning so not bad." After a pause Nancy adds. "Not as good as you though I imagine." Riley chuckles. "I'm going to come for you guys tomorrow be ready to move fast and hard through the horde." Riley writes. Nancy nods nervously. "You guys are heavy sleepers eh?" Riley writes to ease the girl. Nancy touches her ear and mouth. 'Deaf and mute' she writes. 'Only Sunny can hear and talk' she says pointing at the youngest. "Oh cool. I might be able to learn some sign language." Riley says grinning. 'Get rest and be ready for me to come through that door because once we leave that room it's get here or die' Riley writes and heads down to an office facing the courthouse on the 2nd floor. Opening a window Riley takes the semi auto 308. And starts shooting all visible zombies on the lower levels. He would have to go up 3 floors and wasn't eager to have a sea of zombies around him. While he is shooting Riley eats some canned corn with his knife and times how long it takes the zombies to fill back in. The results thus far do not please Riley at all.

Tank paces in front of the moving truck Rat is tinkering with watching for zombies. "Do you actually know what it is you are doing?" Tank asks again. "Why can't you be more like Slim dude? He is all kinds of chill." Rat responds. "Slim doesn't talk so of course he seems chill." Tank scoffs looking at Slim who stares at Tank and shrugs. "You are losing your shit right now too aren't you Slim? This crap is taking so long." Tank groans. "You know Tank, you could check the surrounding buildings for loot." Rat turns and looks at his goliath brother. "Slim is actually quite good at the slaying zombies thing so he can watch my ass while you do something, say 100 feet or so out of earshot." Rat jokingly says returning to his tinkering. "Come to think of it. I haven't really been seeing you around much buddy. What have you been up to lately?" Tank asks Slim. Slim taps his Bowie knife. "Practicing killing zombies?" Tank asks. The other boy silently nods. "That's cool, I've been showing the newbs the ropes on how to play the apocalypse on beast mode and between you and me your shit is funner." Tank laughs. Slim nods and smiles. "Okay my dudes if I have gained any skill from Riley according to my guess this should maybe start." Rat says dropping from the truck and wiping his hands on his jeans. "So glad you are confident." Tank chuckles while Slim grunts. "Would you care to do the honors madam bitches-a-lot?" Rat asks Tank bowing and extending a hand towards the door. "Why of course Sir dickless id be honored." Tank says in a hilarious imitation of a women and curtsying. Slim chuckles silently at the exchange. "Alright turn it over." Rat says to Tank in the truck. After cranking a few times the moving truck roars to life. "Yes I did it Bitches!" Rat cheers. "Now we can get started." Tank says grinning.

Riley watches the window of the 4 kids room. The sun had only barely risen and Riley had yet to sleep. "I am the monster. I am the hunter. I will conquer the world in a sea of my enemies blood living and dead. I will be the savior, but until then I am the monster I am the hunter." Riley repeats over and over as he had all night preparing for the hell he was walking into. Riley kills 3 zombies at different locations and returns to the window. Riley repeats this process for over an hour until he finally sees Nancy nervously looking at him. Riley points at the board. 'Its time get ready and know that once we start we don't stop for anything' Nancy nods. Riley sets the 308. Down and walks down into the basement. Riley rolls his shoulders and checks the edge on his knives and the bayonet on his horde buster. Once he is done he checks the flashlight on the rifle. Pulling the vest he had taken from the swat zombies he had been talking to the last couple days he starts stuffing as many magazines as he can into the pouches and his pockets. Riley puts 2 loaded glocks in his front pockets. Getting down on 1 knee Riley holds his fathers badge and stares into it. "I know I'm not who you hoped or wanted me to be. Probably the farthest from it but if there is anything to the whole afterlife thing." Riley pauses and puts the badge back on his belt. "Help me keep them alive father, don't worry about me I don't seem to die but no matter what for every life I have or will take if you could guide me to save at least someone I can do this. I want to save them. I want them to make it." Riley grabs the tunnel door. "I can kill oceans and burn the world as long as something can be pulled from the ashes I've never asked god or anything like that for anything but if you can give me that I'll be what I need to." With that Riley opens the door wide and raises his horde buster light on and starts walking through the pitch black darkness. Bloody pools are seen a few feet in but no bodies. Riley moves slowly and cautiously to insure he doesn't get ambushed by zombies. Following the tunnel Riley sees a boot facing him and quickly lifts the rifle. Nothing stands there. Lowering the rifle slowly he sees the leg is severed. "Wonder where the rest of you is?" Riley asks the darkness. Traveling a few more slow minutes later he gets his answer. A zombie is dragging itself along the ground in a serpentine sort of motion. Maintaining his slow cautious advance Riley catches up to the zombie and steps on its back as he thrusts his guns bayonet into its skull like a spear. "Where there is 1 there will be more." Riley whispers scanning the area ahead. "Much further than it looked above." Riley says. Riley pushes the body off to the side so when they run back no one will trip and continues forward until he at last reaches the courthouse entrance door. "Okay monster time to feed." Riley says speaking to that part of him he has been cultivating and nurturing through violence and fear.
