"And my mother? Sister? Are they okay?" I ask, staring at ROB in front of me. He looked like the TRUTH from FMAB, but he was wearing a beautiful, immaculate white suit.
"In time, yes, they will cry for their loss, but they will find comfort in each other, and move on with their lives. That's all I can tell you." he answers, without any trace of feeling in his voice.
"I want to negotiate some way for them to have a better life, to live in peace." I say in a hurry.
"There's no such thing, boy. Unless you accept a job in the name of the Creator. Then, we can help here and there." Finally, a sinister smile appears on that empty white face, making me shiver.
"I accept, just make sure they have a quiet and peaceful life." I say on impulse. Finally, even if only after my death, I could do something good for them, I wouldn't miss this chance.
"The work is not difficult, just uncomfortable. See..." he says, showing with a wave of his hand, a white vortex becoming a kind of movie screen in the white space that should, I guess, be a wall, or something similar in some sense.
"Just like others, sometimes we send a soul to fix Realities, sometimes we let them reign over them, other times, just to fulfill their duties. But always with the intention of fixing something.
In your case, your mission will be to fix, but NEVER reign over the realities we send them to. Just go, fix, change whatever you think is necessary, but never take it on as OWNER, or things could end up much worse than you imagine.
I'm going to send you to a Multiverse, I'm going to use this term so that you can understand the whole thing in a simpler way, where most of the realities in it somehow got out of their natural course, and ended up imploding somehow.
Your implosion causes a disturbance in the fragile fabric of Time/Space/Reality, which will lead to a problem on a larger scale. In short, your mission is to avoid the end of everything as we know it, and avoid the RESET." he ends his explanation.
On the screen, there was what appeared to be a constellation, then the camera zooms out, showing other similar constellations around it, and further zooms out, galaxies inside a stellar sphere. There were countless, but where the vision originated, everything began to fade.
Like a plague, the lights of the 'stars' went out like candles, and then pitch black. After that, nothing more.
"Isn't it a bit of pressure with this responsibility?" I ask, swallowing hard, and looking at him a little uncomfortably.
"Like I said, it's not a difficult job, just annoying." He shrugs. "There won't be an enemy of the divine or conceptual level to face, at least not at first. It would take you lifetimes to find them.
So, knowing where the biggest problem comes from, I have a path outlined for you to follow, what you're going to do with it, is your problem alone." He says, waving his hand, and three objects with circular tops appear, covered by a white sheet.
"You seem quite unconcerned, we know I'm not an example of intelligence, so why?" I ask ROB seriously.
"Well, for the simple fact, beings like me, and the superior, are not affected by this. What will happen is simply the RESET, where I will still be here, like others of my race, doing my job, era after era." he explains with a shrug.
"Ooook." I say, dragging the word, thinking only of the people I love. Well, at least I should try, or better yet, succeed, so that they can live well. "What is the work like?" I ask finally, trying to understand the intricacies of the problem.
"Great question," he says, and approaches the objects. "In some realities, there is a hero, a chosen one, a prophesied one. In these realities, you will be taking over the body, sometimes of the hero, sometimes of someone close to you.
When in the body of the Hero, it is to keep the reality alive, and bring it back to normal, when in a person close to you, to help the hero follow his destiny.
But there will be realities where there is no hero, or chosen one, so your mission would be to take over that position. But be careful, because if at some point you are placed as OWNER of that reality, the problem that would come may no longer be that one, since other beings may believe they have a chance to gain a new place.
Don't ask me about them, some just want more places, to put their ideas and things like that, others, because they feed on these realities, it depends a lot on which beings would be looking to steal from a new OWNER." he explains.
"Since we can't have external emotional interference, as soon as you're on your way to your first job, your life memories will be selectively erased. That's because ROBs will always give their 'agents' every possible advantage.
Now, choose how you'll work, following a SYSTEM or not?" He looks at me with interest.
"NO SYSTEM." I say louder, almost like a shout. "Sorry. I don't like systems." I try to make an apologetic expression.
"Relax, if I chose one, I would have turned your life into a huge hell." He says with a shrug. "So, you can choose a power, I'll choose the path, and a roulette wheel will give you a bonus." He explains.
I didn't need to think much, because I always thought that was my choice, even if it wasn't the most powerful, but the most suitable for any reality where it could be played. Dreaming about it prepared me well, I see.
"I wish I had Energy Manipulation." I declare, with him looking at me in surprise.
"Interesting choice, kid. It allows you to access any kind of power you know, in any reality you're in. Very good choice," he says, with a smile on his face. "Your first job will be in the Wizarding World.
Brief explanation, it's a reality in which Harry Potter would die at the end of his third year, being attacked by dementors. His soul, as well as that piece of Tom, would be devoured, and the prophecy would be broken. In a few hundred years, Tom would discover a way to ascend, and then, things would go downhill.
You will take over the body of the boy Harry Potter, between the moment his soul and Tom's were sucked out. With that, the timeline regenerates, but it will still cause a delay. You go back in time with the little girl, save yourself and things return to normal," he explains.
"Well, it sounds like a life of adventures..." I mumble, thinking about everything I've read and watched about this world.
"Two important things now." He says, and raises his first finger. "Spin the wheel, and get a bonus, it might be useful." His finger points to a wheel, which only showed the dividers, but the prizes did not appear.
"Second, your next mission only starts when you die in the world you are in. You will show up here, say hi to me, and I will send you to the next one. Got it?" He winks, and I just nod my head, agreeing. "Then spin it." He says again, giving me a light push towards the wheel.
Without much effort, I do what he asks. It started out really strong, even without much strength, and slowly stopped. As soon as it stopped, unrecognizable words to me flashed, making him open an amused smile at the thing.
"Interesting. Minor Spatial Manipulation. Nothing too exaggerated there, and because it's specific, it's limited to that, but still, very good. In short, teleporting will be easy for you, natural I say. A very useful skill too, like creating a dimensional pocket.
Last but not least, your spatial adaptation ability. It may not seem like much, but you can stay a long time without breathing, in any type of space, in addition to having much greater resistance.
Of course it wouldn't be just that, but what's the point in telling everything, right? Finding out about it will also be fun on your side.
Combined with your Energy Manipulation, it will be powerful, but nothing that makes you be considered a God or something Conceptual. Interesting luck of yours, kid." says ROB, looking more satisfied than I am.
"Thanks, finally my luck smiled on me." I reply somewhat relieved.
"Well kid, time to wake up in that private bed of yours in the hospital wing." and with a snap of the fingers, everything goes away.
