Chapter 4 - Don't Start Now

As I walk out of the school with a book in my hand, I get plenty of weird looks.

"Mind your own business," I snap at anyone who stares at me for more than 3 seconds.

They look away quickly and continue on their way.

When I get home, or what I have to call home, I open the door with a slam and make my way to my room.

"I'm home!" I call on my way up.

No answer.

Not that I expect one. Not being able to hear, after all.

My father and I've split our differences, sure, and we just ignore each other for the most part, which I'm fine with.

As I finish chapter 1, I realize I'm actually starting to enjoy the book.

Who knew they could get so good?

Soon I'm engrossed in it and ignore it when my dad comes into my room to tell me dinner's ready.

Soon he gives up and eats in peace.

After about 2 hours of reading, and 10 more chapters into the book, I finally get to the point where my stomach is yelling at me for some food.

I rush downstairs and grope in the fridge for something to eat.

I find a leftover piece of cake and grab it quickly, rushing back up to my room to eat it.

I finally finish the book after another 6 hours of reading, at 3:16 in the morning.

My eyes blink slowly, and I want to shut them so bad, finally fall asleep.

But I force them open to write my essay.

"The moral of the story?" I ask myself, staring at the book, hoping for answers.

"I guess, every good person is rewarded in the end," I say finally after 10 minutes of pondering.

I take a look at my clock. 3:26.

"I'm bored.....!" I slam my head onto my desk, bored out of my mind.

As I do, my book shakes. I take no notice of it, of course, it would shake.

But when I lift my head back off my desk, it shakes again and falls onto the floor.

I look at it weirdly but then slam my head back onto my desk.

Then it starts flipping pages.

I stare at it from my head on the desk.

It finally lands on a page titled "Home".

"Oh my God," I say as it starts glowing.

This was my evil teacher's plan all along, wasn't it?! To get rid of me! As the book starts sucking things into it, I run out of my room in triumph. It can suck all the things in my room, I could care less. It won't get me, though.

"I'm heading out!" I yell at my dad, who's watching TV from his spot on the couch. He nods in my direction in acknowledgment, but that's it.

I grab my dad's car keys and run out to the car.

I can see my room glowing from outside, and I start to wonder what life would be like in the book I had just read.

It didn't seem that bad from this point on Earth, but I bet it was hellish in there.

I curse at my debacle. I finally decide not to run away from my problems. I put the keys back in the house and run back up the stairs. I walk into my room.

I brace for the worst and let the book take its hold on me.

The next thing I know, I'm lying in a grassy field.
