Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 (bit of background)

By now it was already morning and would be the afternoon in a few hours.

The sun was already out and the good morning scenery could not mask the dire situation of the world.

Although it had been only a few days, a large fraction of the world population had been converted to terrifying zombies.

The world was in a semi-apocalyptic state as even the governments around the world could not fix this situation.

The big shots had already evacuated somewhere while the citizens were left behind to die and become zombies.

It was a cruel world.

If these zombies were zombies like in common movies off the internet, then it would be more possible to save the situation.

However, the zombies in reality were smart.

They weren't mindless undead hunting by instinct.

Of course, they were guided by it, but a zombie breaking into a shop to steal?

Seth was located in Country A-2 and the year was 2050.

By 2050, all countries had formed an alliance and lumped together as 4 main countries with sub-countries broken into numbers.

Country A-2 was the second biggest country of the main Country A.

Seth grew up here in a small city called Balloon City with his family of three.

His sister and mother.

His father had lost his life long ago in a small-scale war between Country A-2 and Country B-2.

For the service he provided to Country A-2, his family would receive yearly benefits such as housing and free education for a long duration.

This assured him as he died on the battlefield knowing his family would be taken care of.

At that time, Seth was only 12 and now he was already 23 years old.

His sister who was named Alice was older at 27 years old.

Balloon City was small compared to other cities but the city prided itself on its unique architecture and advanced technology.

Because of his father, Seth grew up decently as his country did not mistreat him.

He had attended university and finished it achieving a good career in the end.

But now it was all for nothing, the world was ending.

Was there any hope for humanity?

Seth didn't have much time to think about hope because he already turned into a zombie before he knew it.

That cold mechanical voice that said he awakened a bloodline.

What was it?

It seemed straight out of a known dying genre he read in his spare time.

He assumed if he could awaken a bloodline, then what about others?

When Leon and his underlings told him that there were special zombies, he couldn't help but think it had something to do with the mechanical voice.

Maybe everyone awakened something?

As such, the 4-meter zombie in front of him gave him a bit more clues.

Judging by this zombie's characteristics, it was likely that something fishy was going on.

No one is naturally 4 meters tall and built like the damn hulk before they turn into a zombie.

The trio looked at Seth and Lucy with a bit of reluctant.

Maybe they should just get rid of the woman while they're alive.

The huge zombie outside could turn them into paste.

The woman would only make the situation worse.

This trio seemed to only think about benefits.

For example, they wanted Seth to join them because he was special.

The two underlings were regular zombies but the leader wasn't.

He was semi-special as his 'change' hasn't completed yet.

But Seth on the other hand could speak in human tongue and he looked more human than any zombie they had seen.

If not for their ability to smell and keen eyes, they would have mistaken Seth for a human.

The trio naturally wanted to abandon the woman as she was a burden in this situation.

The situation had completely changed, now they had to worry about being squashed into meat paste.

Perhaps Seth could hold off the huge zombie but it wasn't worth it.

"Abandon the woman!"

An underling spoke out first.

It wasn't a good time to sit around and enjoy her tender flesh.

They could only abandon her and run away or hide in the apartment building until the big guy left.

The other two agreed and looked towards Seth.

They were hoping he naturally agreed but his answer was a bit unexpected.

"You guys go on ahead, I have another plan"

The trio looked at each other and ran back up each floor until they felt safe enough.

Forget this new guy, so what if he was a bit special?

If he wanted to die so quickly then so be it.

The trio naturally abandoned Seth.

Outside the building was a main street that led to various shops and such.

There was a large road on the street and at that moment, a 4-meter zombie was fighting off a small group of regular zombies.

Lucy saw this scene and paled in fear.

Other zombies rushed towards this big guy passing the entrance to the apartment building.

Some of them noticed Seth and Lucy behind the big glass door and open windows but chose to ignore them.

Seth and Lucy both wondered why they were all trying to take down the big guy.

But Seth soon figured out why as the passing zombies were shouting.

"Take him down! This guy can help us evolve!"

"Whoever gets it first will not be touched, we promise!"

Seth was interested by their words.

Another piece of information had fallen into his ears.

'So, we can evolve? Hmm'

'Interesting...'

He guessed something good will happen if he could get whatever it is they were fighting for.

Seth decided, he was confident he could kill this big guy.

His body didn't look the part, but each fibre of muscle was packed with a strange power.

He noticed killing regular zombies was as easy as drinking water.

"Stay here, I'll deal with the big guy"

Seth told Lucy to wait for him here but she was very reluctant for him to leave, she had formed a bit of trust towards him.

"Don't worry, I'll be back"

Seth exited the entrance while Lucy covered in zombie flesh hid behind the reception desk.

Upon exiting the door, some zombies glanced at Seth before ignoring him while others watched him like a hawk.

Seth casually walked towards the huge zombie under these gazes.

As he got closer, the huge zombie noticed Seth.

He was currently having a bit of trouble fighting off these pests.

Just as Seth entered his vision, he immediately saw that Seth is a special zombie like him.

Seth was about to join the hunt with the other zombies when the big guy suddenly singled him out.

"Hey, you! Pale-looking white-haired kid! Help me out!"

'???'

Seth was confused.

The zombies around Seth looked at him with murderous intent.

This kid was his ally? Kill!

Invisible sweat formed on Seth's head.

Could Seth take on all of them?

There was around a hundred of them.

Most of them looked like regular street zombies, but Seth noticed a few figures standing back not taking action.

Did this big guy actually want Seth to help him?

He was in a sticky situation now.

Thinking for a second, he decided.

Picking up his pace he ran through the crowd while stabbing and punching at zombie heads in his path.

He looked like a ghost passing through.

Seth fought purely on instincts, yet this alone was enough to deal with regular zombies.

The huge zombie saw Seth helping and was filled with joy.

'Haha! I didn't think this guy was capable!'

"Hey kid! The names Chef! Like a cook!"

Chef laughed as he saw Seth approaching gradually.

"Chef like a cook?"

Seth was amused with this easy-going guy.

The situation was dire but Chef was smiling.
