Chereads / The Carpenter / Chapter 3 - Chisel

Chapter 3 - Chisel

Raen suddenly went unconscious, the last thing he remembered being a message:

<|[Eliminations: 2, All Conditions Met, Moving Players to Gamemaster Room]|>

He dreamed of a red sky, with sawdust falling around him like snow on a cold winter's night.

Raen stood on a small, black, square platform that was slightly elevated from the ocean surrounding him, which was dark red, akin to the color of blood.

Whilst the sky was red, the area of the sky nearest the horizon turned an abyssal black.

Raen felt breathing on the back of his neck, and a guttural voice snickered from behind him:

"Talk to you soon."

Raen's eyes shot wide open, and a blinding white light pierced his retinas.

As he gasped for air, his eyes slowly adjusted to the light, revealing a completely blank void surrounding him.

As he sat up, the void seemed to stretch outward towards an infinite horizon.

The emptiness was interrupted, however, by a wooden chair sitting a couple of meters away from him.

Rather, this wooden chair would have been rather dull if it were not for what was standing behind it.

What Raen could only describe as a demonic figure stood behind the chair, their elbow resting on its back, smiling at him.

This entities' long black and curly horns looped from the top of its forehead backward away from his face, and back to the sides of his mouth.

It had long white hair and dark red skin with black tattoos scattered across its skin, and it wore gold and black robes that spiraled down its body in a perplexing pattern.

As Raen observed its fascinating robes, this creature's golden Iris's flared out momentarily, and it laughed.

Surprisingly, in contrast to its appearance, it sounded like a young man.

"Wow. Well done! I liked the last kill there, that really piqued my interest. This round I only really liked you, to be honest. The rest of the competitors were just... Well. They were brutes, no class or creativity at all!"

The thing slowly moved around the chair and sat down it, the chair making a creaking noise as it did so.

Raen coughed to clear his throat, and as he tried to speak his voice was incredibly scratchy.

"W-what?"

The entity looked blankly at Raen for a second, then lit up.

"Ah! I forgot to give you my name. That must be it. My formal name is 'Fear-togail na cùise agus deireadh amannan.' I go by Satan though!"

"Ah, so you are the one that forced me to kill my co-workers." Raen looked up at Satan blandly.

Satan laughed.

"If you put it that way, yes! I really did not "force" you to do anything, as if you had a strong enough aversion to killing, or worshipped god or something it would have had no effect. Not that god really cared about you killing anyone."

Satan chuckled to himself and stared off into the void, seemingly reminiscing over something.

Suddenly he snapped back to the moment, gleaming with antithetical heavenly energy.

"So! How about we move on to the main topic of today, your new place of residence for the next couple of years!" Satan gestured his arms towards Raen, both arms extended fully towards him with his palms facing the empty sky.

Raen blinked at Satan.

Satan's smile dropped, a look of slight annoyance rising onto his face.

"You could do me a favor and look a little intrigued or confused or SOMETHING."

Raen's stern disposition held for a moment, then he laughed at Satan.

"Sure, why the hell does it matter anyway. Where am I going oh lord of the underworld?"

Satan's almost mischievous smile returned.

"I am oh so glad you asked little one!" Satan spouted in a mocking grandiose voice.

"You will be heading to a stereotypical Isekai setting to get stronger and defeat the demon king! A wonderful normal plot for a hero of great renown, wouldn't you say?"

Raen shook his head whilst wryly grinning, "Honestly, could you create something more interesting and morally grey? I'm pretty sure this would be an awful story, considering my personality."

Satan gave a hardy laugh as leaned back in his chair, "Yeah, I guess I can give you something a bit more intriguing. But as a favor from you to me, please make it entertaining. All the matters I have to attend to up here get, well, boring."

Raen raised an eyebrow, "Up here?".

Satan looked down at Raen, "Well yeah, god left a while ago.".

"Well, it's time for you to go, so have fun in your little fantasy world! I can't wait to see you again." As Satan said this, Raen's vision began to fade out, the periphery of his sight beginning to wane into darkness.

Eventually, Raen heard birds chirping.
