Was it John just contacted by Ryan? If so, why does it seem like the man didn't ask about Hellen?
"I called John to do some work. But he's back in town with Clara."
Hearing Ryan's story that John went with Clara, made Hellen angry. She squeezed the blanket but didn't want Ryan to know her anger. John was really outrageous for daring to double her when she was not at home.
Do all men always do that?
Hellen realized that she had made a mistake, but, if it was related to her egoism, then no one could be ambiguous, only Hellen could do it.
"Oh, is that so? That's good then. He doesn't have to come after me anymore."
There was an implied sadness from Hellen's words just now. However, Ryan didn't really care, because there were other things he should care about and he talked to Hellen about.
