Chapter 93 - Strange Radio Phenomenon

James could not be happier, although he kept his emotions in check. He had just gained so many insights from the online lessons he just had. Of course, he had to apply them in real life, so he started with a terabyte SSD he bought with his desktop computer.

Of course, he had to cut down the time he spent on doing this. He had exams next week, so he needed to study and clear his mind. Even if he didn't open a book, he was confident that he was going to pass with flying colours.

As he was studying his hard drive, someone knocked on the door. James naturally thought it was Maribel, so he said. "Mom, I'm not that hungry. Maybe I'll eat later maybe."

But the person that replied was not Maribel, it was Angel. "I'm not mom", she said and giggled. James turned around in surprise. "Oh Angel, what are you doing here" James smiled as he turned around and faced her.

"Mommy's birthday is next week Sunday, so I want to make something special for her, but I need your help", she said and pouted her lips. "Awww, of course, I'll help you, Angel. So what do you need? You want me to build you a robot for mom?"

"No that is not special for mom. I want you to make a video of me and mom as I was a baby and as I am now. Please make a cartoon version of it, it will be cute!" Angel said with a passionate glint in her eyes.

James smiled wryly. Why would Angel think he was a video editor? Maybe it was because he built her a robot for her, she thought he can do anything, but that was not the case. If he tells her that he could not do it, it would only break her heart, and Angel had always looked up to him.

With a resolve, James decided to learn how to edit videos. It would not be that hard anyway. "Of course, I will do that." James smiled and crouched to her height. "Tell you what, this would be the best gift mom would ever receive." Angel beamed widely and hugged James. "I love you James!" she squeaked and ran out of James' room.

James felt very warm-hearted. Such innocence of a child. James went back to his desk and thought. If he learned video editing in four hours, that would give him approximately two days to finish editing the videos. With that thought in mind, James continued studying the hard drive.

"What? It couldn't read the hard drive? Ohh.." James groaned painfully and threw the fifth damaged hard drive on the trash bin. This was not working as expected, he thought painfully. He had absorbed all the information needed to even create one from scratch, but right now, he can't even make one usable for him.

His first aim was to re-construct the data blocks to achieve more speed and efficiency. With his superficial brain, he was able to identify errors in the arrangement of these blocks. Although ssds were fast and efficient, they lack durability and latency. Compared to past HDDs, there was a big leap to efficient storage units. But even with that, humans were humans after all. Although they achieved a breakthrough related to these snappy drives, the lack of durability was a huge step back from achieving a complete breakthrough.

Right now James has located the errors in them and drew a map as to how they were supposed to be arranged. A lot of drawings and mental exhaustion later, he completed his masterpiece.

After converting them to softcopy, he proceeded to etch the blueprint to dummy silicon to see what it was going to look like. The 3D printer he bought from a store while he was coming home from school was able to cut any soft metals with ease, so James used it to etch the blueprint to the silicon he bought.

Of course, this 3D printer was no match for the very expensive and rare photolithography machine that existed in major chip producing companies. This was just used to test how his patterns would appear from a microscopic level. According to Wikipedia, the optical lithography was so special that it was only one company that made the breakthrough to manufacturing this machine, and they were unwilling to share their secrets with anyone, making them the only company that create the machine that other major companies cannot function without.

James connected the 3D printer to his PC and ran the printing sequence. The process was a bit slow, which was a bit depressing for James, but he didn't stay idle. He went online and completed requests for clients online. When he cleared all the requests in his inbox, he opened another website to learn the basics of video editing.

The learning process was much easier than James anticipated. He already saw himself as a pro after completing the lessons that someone bearing Marques Brownlee, he decided to practice what he learned.

This took longer than he anticipated. He spent more than six hours completing the video, and he has not even gotten started with the cartoon version that Angel requested. "Alright I admit, editing videos is harder than I anticipated." James slumped when he clicked on render video.

Just when he was about to open his AI project to continue perfecting it, the mysterious radio sounded again. James was slightly startled, so he brought out the radio and studied it carefully. "How is this thing making static sounds without a battery to power it. When he held it and waited for it to sound again, it didn't. He stood up and wanted to put it away, but in the process of standing, the radio sounded again.

James raised his eyebrow, and slowly sat down, and just when he was halfway, the radio sounded continuous. James was surprised. He tried to listen to what it was saying, but the sound appeared disorganized and unstable. He bet he heard a female voice in an instant. James did not want to miss this strange phenomenon, so he gently took his phone from his desk and began recording the static sound with the intention to study it later.
